Foxcatcher has to be one of the most depressing movies ever made.

Would adding a Dual Championship actually change anything?
AgaveMaria replied to Jimmy Cinnabon's topic in College Wrestling
What I would like to see is teams be able to enter two at each weight for conference tournaments and be able to have two under consideration for The Big Dance. So what if one team has their guys 1st and 2nd - if they can do it, more power to them. -
All this silliness that does so much harm to so many for a myth. As for AJ - somehow he gets IQ mixed up with his weight: 197.

Brands Advice To Suspended Iowa Wrestlers: 'Be Ready'

Give me J Robinson any day of the week. He fell on his sword to protect his wrestlers. I don't agree with it but I admire him for it. -

It is the NCAA, not Government Law Enforcement. If Tommy of The Terrible Two does not like it - get Iowa out of the NCAA. -
Limiting the number of matches - any negative consequences?
AgaveMaria replied to AgaveMaria's topic in College Wrestling
On Cael not being demonstrative on the sidelines. At least he and Cody no longer dress like funeral directors. A number of coaches are stoic as their wrestlers compete. Remember Fred Davis, coach at BYU where Cael's father Steve wrestled on the bench during matches. Quiet, little emotion. Not every coach is a yeller or screamer and (thank goodness) not many are John Smith "Get the hell off my lawn" mean old fart types. -
Nope, doesn't work with VD and it won't work with Farrari.

I know Wrestling offers good opportunities for full participation to blind athletes. At least in Folkstyle/HS/College. Not sure about Freestyle so someone can let us know. The only change on the mat is constant contact between the wrestlers. What other sports offer full participation to blind athletes?

We are watching teams limit the number of duals and matches during the season. Almost looks like it did in the 50's and 60's. Wondering if the lack of two and three matches over a weekend will have any residual effect come The Big Dance? Not being used to a number of matches over a few days might find some not fully prepare - or is it a non-starter? Teams that hit a few touraments might have wrestlers more attuned to the grind of the Conference and NCAA finals - will it make a difference for many of them? Glad Cael wrestled when more matches were the norm. Gave us a lot more matches to watch.

https://petapixel.com/2024/01/24/trump-shares-ai-image-of-himself-praying-with-six-fingers/ Yep, next he will be telling us he has 6 fingers like his hero and this makes him an Uber Superior Christian. After that it will be that he has 5 dicks and his pants fit like a glove...

Amine and Nelson Brands too? Maybe they can graduate to Marv Alberts, famous sports announcer status some day? https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1997-sep-26-mn-36348-story.html Sure was big news when it came out.

It is SinaButt - it's fair game for anyhing.

Yep, he was hit with The Shakes and is now terrified to get on the mat with anyone or any school who has an "I" in their name. It is terrible, a phobia like this. He won't be going against iowa or the like ever again. Oklahoms is OK... when the wind comes sweeping down the plains. And the waving wheat sure smells sweet when the wind comes right behind the rain... This will hurt him in because he won't be able to do Freestyle against wrestlers from Iran, India or the like. Such a sad end to a promising career...

Someone apparently slept through all those Biology classes. And some of us like colored marshmallows.

It is well known that Cael gets a lot from Casey Cunningham. One fine coach who seems to help elevate the whole team. John Smith now has Coleman Scott on staff and suddenly Oklahoma State is looking much better than they have in years. It remains to be seen if they look great but underperform at The Big Dance. If they keep it up - Coleman is Casey for OSU?

From the NCAA.com site on wrestling. Bold type is my emphasis "While the evening started slower than expected at 157 pounds in a 2-1 match between No. 1 Levi Haines and No. 7 Cameron Amine that was decided by a stall call, Mesenbrink turned up the heat, overpowering Amine 12-1 in a statement match for the freshman. Amine has finished on the podium in his last three tournament appearances, ending up fourth last year. Mesenbrink's performance suggests he's not only an All-American contender but a title threat for Penn State." ---------------------------- Not only is this NCAA site an embarassment to reporting timely results much of the time, they can't even get the basics right. But, this type of writing explains why Amine lost so big, doesn't it? Amine wrestling his second match within 5 minutes? The guy was tired. -------------------------- Seriously, the NCAA site does a generally poor job on wrestling. If their football reporting was this bad they would have been shut down already.

Michigan PSU, sorry couldn't find old topic.

Maybe they can find out where GOAT Levesseur went to school and enroll there and become "The Three Four Timers" of the junior leagues? -

Nope, Danny PINNED them. Back then no one was a GirlyMan with "pinfalls". -
Some don't know or remember Cael went up to 197 after constantly hearing "if he trys the Big Boys he'll het his arse handed to him". So, he went up and tried the Big Boys and dominated again. He had pins/falls, technical falls and majors all over the place. Damian Hahn tried stalling and blocking all match long against him and Cael still won. Yes, he redshirted. So did a lot of others. Dake did not. It was more a choice dictated by Coaching than anything else. When he was wrestling "officially" - he never lost. Add in those matches that did not count against his record and he has even more wins. Today some of them would count on his record. Dake was damn good, no doubt about it. Four weights, new opponents every year. None able to wrestle and then plan against him for the next time/next year like Cael faced. The best coaches prepping their best wrestlers for the rematch - even over a couple years? Cael faced it. Dake didn't. Then we have Yojo and others who were undefeated in their three year careers. If I had one guy to put out on the mat for "All the Marbles" in a match - it would be him. He dominated without putting up big scores. He got called for Stalling once and then ended up hurting the other wrestler as he poured it on. I know that wrestler and he seldom talke about it other than 'he hurt me, he hurt me... bad". And that wrestler was an All American, was very good. Yojo was in a class of his own. For clarity, Yojo was in my weight class at the time so yes, I am prejudiced. All three were dominant. Dake had some losses. The other two did not. The 159-0 on the record is the tie breaker here. A few wrestled more but no one else has the ZERO at the end coupled with four years of Outstanding Wrestler and three Hodge awards. What I find frustrating with Cael was his early retirement from Iinternational wrestling. I and others firmly believed we had a competitor of the calibre of John Smith and felt(feel?) cheated out of years of watching him on the mat. He is dominating as a Coach, but a few more years and chances on the International stage sure would have been nice.

Dan Gable for the full career, College & International. John Smith for International. Very good in College, unmatched in International with 6 in a row.

Top Rated Matches / Best Match You Have Ever Seen

Schultz vs Banach. All the hoopla of Banach going for a 4th NCAA title - before he had won Three. Add in Mark Schultz went up a weight for the season and stated it was specifically to take down Banach. -
Best Campaign to Not End with a Title
AgaveMaria replied to blueandgold's topic in College Wrestling
Have to go with Dan Gable on this one. Perfection for years only to lose the last match of his College career. A bigger upset than just one season, it was the first loss in his career in folkstyle wrestling. 64-0 in High School. 117-0 in College. The final Title in his grasp to finisih a perfect career. " Before the match, Gable had recorded a promo for ABC saying, “Hi, I’m Dan Gable. Come watch me as I finish my career 182-0.” This is Folkstyle where Gable reigned supreme. In Freestyle he had lost five times to Bobby Douglas while trying to make the 1868 Olympic team. For a year or career in Folkstyle I think Gable is #1 in this one. -
Why make fun of this Superior Christian for the rock thing? Mormon prophet Joseph Smith got the Book of Mormon from a magic rock in a hat. Maybe AJ is on the way to starting his own Superior Religion? Notre Dame has Touchdown Jesus. AJ can have Tekedown Jesus?
