  1. Yes to both. #1 in the nation, probably isn't worth as much as the same degree from an Ivy. Yes, I know that UIUC engineering is great, but that Ivy degree and the connections that it brings are likely priceless, (Not to mention if you want to branch out/switch fields....) (And I was also going to mention that there are probably very few wrestlers in these programs)
  2. https://www.si.com/college/stanford/football/lifetime-cardinal-to-help-stanford-rejoin-the-rest-of-college-football-in-the-modern-era-with-nil-push A little early in the game. The collective has been around less than a year. I'm sure that Koll will be a man of principle and not delve into the seedy universe of NIL!
  3. I disagree. People might choose Cornell over a Big 10 school, because of the Ivy status. Envision a Meyer Shapiro type recruit. This recruit wants the Ivy degree and the network that comes with it, but also has ways around Ivy rules and admissions standards. Therefore it clearly 'applies to more than the Ivies.'
  4. Sure, but offering the benefits of an Ivy education and Ivy aid packages with unique loopholes around Ivy rules.
  5. It is a Yianni match. Yianni matches have been known to be somewhat chaotic. They need to be ready for this. These are professional athletes and professional coaches. They need to be held to a higher standard. Embarrassing.
  6. While reading it, I imagined the return of TBar and the two battling it out.
  7. Wasn't he like three states away? Is it possible there is some confusion here?
  8. There is a lot to like about Koll, but I can almost guarantee that he's going to make sure the NIL funds are pouring in soon. He'd already gotten a commit from Joe DeSena's kid, and that certainly won't hurt. The way college admissions trends are looking, it might only be a matter of time before Stanford drops SAT/ACT requirements, removing a barrier for undergraduate entry.
  9. Definitely something to that, and Provo wasn't actually a transfer, but Koll did certainly poach him.
  10. Committed to Cornell. Switched commitment that summer that Koll left. https://www.gfacademy.org/athletics/dragon-nation-blog/single-post-dragon-nation/~board/dragon-nation-blog/post/provo-wrestles-with-a-tough-decision-takes-talents-to-stanford
  11. There is still no excuse, but Yianni was trailing by 1 (if I remember) and wanted to know if he needed 1 or 2. He wanted to know what criteria would look like if he tied it. To my knowledge that isn't on the scoreboard, but a coach should know.
  12. I wrestled on one of those in a tourney semi my senior year of high school!
  13. Thanks. I believe criteria is best best remembered as 1. Most; 2. Least; 3. Last. It is not hard when you remember it that way. From the rulebook: If the point total is equal at the end of a match, the following criteria will determine the winner, in this order: 1. Highest value scoring actions (most 5 point actions, most 4 point actions, most 2 point actions) 2. Least number of accrued cautions 3. Last point scored Yianni matches can get crazy at times, which is all the more reason to have one guy in the corner keep track. Not too hard. Just have a notepad. (And as far as NFL: The stuff going on with NFL sidelines with down, distance, substitution packages, injury, clock, etc. dwarfs anything that happens in a wrestling match)
  14. I think he started as a Greco guy, maybe in age level stuff. Also heard something like: the Greco weights are more to his liking.
  15. Remember, part of his "NLWC resurgence" was to let himself get heavy in the offseason. Also wrestled overseas at 61kg in his most recent tourney. Somewhat disastrously, I may add. (Supposedly has considered going 61 full time) Still the pundits picking him talked about "how great he looked this year." Not sure what they were talking about. P.S. Not to mention reports coming out of the OTC that he has recently refused to go par terre with a high school aged Greco kid!
  16. It is absolutely the job of someone in the corner. Someone needs to know the situation. The failure to plan for stuff like this gets you fired in sports like the NFL. Coaches need to be more accountable. These are professional coaches and professional athletes.
  17. It did cross my mind. Pretty sure Cael, Casey, someone would have an idea of the criteria situation. (Especially after the scoring FUBAR at the Bartlett-Lee match last month. I guarantee that NLWC made some sort of adjustment in their cornering so that one guy is always aware of scoring situations etc.)
  18. Why does it seem as drama has been following J'Den for the last four years or so?
