  1. I never understood the issue of wanting someone to FF in the finals when two teammates face. I’d almost always want to see them wrestle it out under normal conditions. I get in this case the coaches and Spencer would like to be cautious so he can stay healthy, but in that case he can be the one to FF as has already occured several times in the past. Drake wanted to be a competitor even if the odds were against him, and I can’t see any of the coaching staff or hardcore Iowa fans trying to advise against that mentality. But either way the in mat drama was a little much, and trying to dig into any practice room drama is a little much here.
  2. Davison brothers wrestled each other when one was still at Michigan and the other Northwestern.
  3. Pretty sure he threw away his shot at bring a starter.
  4. Pretty dumb the BTN is not even showing the finals live or recorded. Nothing from Iowa’s event either.
  5. They were primed for a solid team and individual finish the Covid year, but have fell off a little since then.
  6. Gotta have peiple to provide some type of semi reliable content for FloRodeo, FloBowling, FloMarch, FloVoice, FloDance, etc…. They just love their laterals.
  7. He’s behind both KISS and Ozzy have done like 3.
  8. Wrestling brought you to the party, so learn neutral striking blocking/evasion and find your wrestling.
  9. I’ve always been impressed with Raney, so I’d be good with your assumption.
  10. I think that’s really comparing apples and oranges on that one. Ironman will be is hampered in the matchup due to the tournament inviting full teams and somewhat limited weight spots. Where as Ironman is open to all individuals and will make added space at the weight classes it want if additional studs sign up to attend. Even with crazy good teams Ironman is still limited in overall talent when the entire tram comes along and there are only so many spots to fill. If anything I think that makes the talent they have been able to pull in even more impressive.
  11. Soccer is an outdooor sport while wrestling’s an indoor. I say the wife should have to deal with the added weather conditions that go with her chosen sport.
  12. When USAGreco can’t even find the right way to support itself, it just make it harder for the fans to get into supporting it.
  13. I’d agree that pretty much all of them had very little skills in boxing prior to their fight with him. And I’d also say he has improved a lot in his overall boxing ability even though it’s still subpar. But who wouldn’t if you put that much money into decent trainers and actually did take it seriously since it’s becoming a huge pay day. Not to mention he’s pretty smart about picking guys who are a few weights below him and way past their consistent athletic training days. The going story on his payments was that he was at least paying some of his early opponents to let the fight go to the late rounds so it would seems like a better show for the fans. But when they haven’t been in full focused attacking mode for multiple rounds your opponents hasn’t taken much damage, isn’t worn down, and you haven’t been winning many rounds in the judges eyes. Thus he still has an opportunity in the later rounds to find a solid KO punch or he’s still very in it for the judges decisions after peppering his opponent with basic shots since the opening rounds. I can see that type of strategy getting him through several early fights where he wanted to build his name up but was while still very raw himself. But I’d say the payments may have dried up or been through secret third parties as he’s done more professional fights. That would be monitored a lot closer than his earlier exhibitions or small time events. Now he just has to keep picking opponents who have little boxing background and hope a decent coaching strategy can still work against them. So far he’s mouthed off to several solid MMA strikers, but hasn’t fought any of them. Silva was the next safest step up for him since he used to be a known MMA striker but Paul knows he never was a power puncher, he’s way past his athletic days, and his MMA success occurred at several weights below what they fought at. Woodly and Silva is about as much as he can risk without a lot more focused training and even then it’s be smart to steer clear of a long time trained pro boxer.
  14. As a die hard Simpsons fan this is a solid reference. But, to pivot back to wrestling i always felt that if you could get two upper-classman to choreograph a match (wwe style) with several slick moves and tour that around the elementary schools you’d double the youth program sign ups.
  15. Who is Sasso? I’ll take “Wrestlers that tend to look better at the end of the season” for 400, Alex.
  16. “should look like the penthouse” And I stand by my view that the whole Big10 “should” look like a Top 20 contender (penthouse) yearly.
  17. The Big10 basement should still look like a penthouse compared to 90% of the rest of DI.
  18. Looks like another great addition to the Legends of the Mat Forum once the thread has fell from the first few pages of this one.
  19. With the NILs going on you would think the athletes would be asking the university to get as much content out there as possible. The more exposure they have the more people are likely to follow them and/or paid partners taking notice. I get most are not making bank on college wrestling but being able to even get a little extra i will keep a few athlete interested at continuing their athletic/academic career at your university rather than look at the opportunities elsewhere.
  20. He’s just a college tweener that’s may not be able to maintain 197 for some of college. So does he just go all in at HWT and hoping he can put on enough weight yet still maintain his athletic skill to be dynamic HWT. His size is really more suited for the international weight of 97kg.
  21. US squad is better for the rest of this cycle with him at 92 and Snyder at 97, but it’s still mostly an individual sport so can’t fault anyone for moving around.
  22. I’d be good with the stipulation of take it as a Freshman or lose it. But many sports coaches/ADs wouldn’t go for it since the later redshirts do occasionally help them get the most from their lineup.
