I know D1 wrestlers can wrestle for 14 minutes. They may be dog tired but they’ll fight and that would be awesome.

This will be streamed live on Flo, that is how I will be watching my first Okie State dual if the year. WrestleStat has this as #2 Missouri winning 18-12 over #4 Okie State. Should be another amazing meet for this weekend!

All this thread is showing me is that wrestling could be 5x more entertaining with the right mixture of rules, at the detriment of the wrestlers lol

I could really get behind Keep alternating sets of two 30 second periods until one person ends a period with more point than the other. it could lead to some 14 minute matches but we’d see guys battle and that’s what wrestlings about!

There are plenty of alternate scenarios that may have to become reality if colleges stop sponsoring non-revenue sports. There are currently as many NWCA D1 club teams as there are NCAA D1 teams. Obviously there would be a landscape shift but wrestling isn’t such a niche sport that it will simply seize to exist in a post HS capacity. We are the only country with athletics tied to universities. If the NCAA disbands or becomes insolvent there are many alternative. Also have you ever considered that many programs thrive not due to NCAA/university support but due to donor support? In my opinion the NCAA is too big to fail, but as football becomes increasingly an ROI seeking endeavor other sports will have changes to pursue. we currently have more NCAA sponsored programs than ever before, we haven’t he RTC model, we have the club model, we have NAIA. Things may change but it doesn’t have to be the NCAA or bust .

I could see a scenario where college wrestling breaks off from the NCAA, due to the NCAA no longer existing, or other, where college wrestling is regulated and sought over by a wrestling specific governing body. Like UWW for international wrestling, or NWCA for club wrestling. Wrestling isn’t going anywhere but the sports that can quickly pivot to a new format with the possible death of the NCAA will have less negative impacts.

I feel this may be a bit dramatic, I can can this eventually leading to the end of the NCAA but this affects 30+ sports that are sponsored across various schools and each will need a backup plan if football no longer subsidizes them and the NCAA no longer exists. This is about the powers that be squeezing every penny out of college football and no considering anything or anybody else.

Woods will bounce back fine, as long as the PSU guy doesn’t win the weight I’ll be fine though.

Everyone is telling me that football is eventually going to break off from the NCAA. How would that affect our sport? What would the college sport landscape look like if that were the case? Will every sport besides football and basketball downgrade to club and form their own collegiate leagues?

I too find sparky a lil annoying at times, but I love his passion for the sport we all love. tonight was a great night of wrestling. Everyone won today (except Iowa )

Matchups make the dual to be fair. Sorta how Michigan lost to OSU but beat Iowa.

I just was trying to figure out how Iowa could get tricky to win.

I’m loving this. Michigan is going to come off a loss to OSU to take out Iowa! Lemely being absent last week definitely hurts though, likely changes the results.
