  1. Thanks for sharing your opinion with absolutely no logical or reasonable evidence to support it. What is this, Twitter?

    Wow

I understand your desire, but I think our society has an irrational love affair with redemption. I guarantee this isn’t that kids first violent outburst, and no matter what anyone does for him, it won’t be his last. Impulsive, violent behavior due to negative emotions is this kid’s learned/reinforced impulse. Good luck changing that.

    Wow

Owning the consequences should be a USAW lifetime ban. Own that.

    Wow

Lock him up in big boy jail. Human waste. Lifetime ban. This display of anti-social behavior is almost never cured, or rehabilitated. Of course he’s mentally “unstable”, problem is, our society absolutely sucks at stabilizing people this far down the road of delinquency.
  5. If I were Branch, these two would warrant a close look as possible replacements. https://www.themeateater.com/conservation/wildlife-management/photos-wyoming-wrestlers-fight-off-grizzly-attack-with-bare-hands
  6. What is the goal of counting a mff as a loss? Don’t we already do that? The mff’ing wrestler doesn’t advance, the opponent scores the equivalent of a fall for his team AND advances to the next round or higher placement. If the goal is simply to penalize the “injured” wrestler in future rankings/seedings, then apply a loss to that team’s entrant at future seeded tournaments and future rankings, but you can’t penalize the wrestler for being injured, and it is impossible to discern the severity or legitimacy of injuries with any degree of accuracy. I would also support an 8 pt forfeit in duals to incentivize actually competing vs “ducking”, but then I still cling to the make duals matter philosophy.
  7. Hilton, Carver, West Gym, 3 different Mizzou venues, Gallagher-Iba, and Williams Arena. I’ve also been in the old Armory at ISU, but only after Hilton was built. The armory must have been insane.

  9. Ever done 3+ years in the Navy as a cook? He absolutely could succeed as a SEAL, but like I said, risky. He could also do college wrestling after the Navy, but 3+ years as a cook, he’d almost certainly be a 285lber!
  10. 100%. Hard to predict who will lose their cool in freezing ocean swims, etc. Ultimately it’s mind over matter, never quitting despite utter physical, mental, and psychological exhaustion. Elite athletes have an advantage that’s lasts about the first 6 hours. After that, anyone can be tougher than anyone else.
  11. The 2 aren’t mutually exclusive. SEAL career could be pursued after college wrestling. Risky decision, given a 75% chance of failure in training pipeline and reassignment to cook. I’ve seen lots of elite athletes fail SEAL training. Good luck to him, though.
  12. Can’t be certain, but pretty sure I heard Greenlee snoring during duals during our time in the MAC. Dude seemed supremely disinterested most of the time.
  13. Nitpicking, but Mauller is a 4x AA if you count his “first team” selection during the canceled year.
  14. Did LensCrafters advertise all weekend on the broadcast? I watched the stream version until the finals. Or was this a last minute effort to exploit the Lee family pain?
  15. Spreading the wealth was a explicitly stated objective back when they abandoned prior year success and when to a formula. That first year, ACC and Pac-12 had huge jumps in qualifiers, iirc. I think as fans we are short-sighted if we start giving 5th placers in the Big10 better seeds than lesser conference champs. If you’re goal is to reduce D1 wrestling to 12-15 schools, then sure, but giving that App St or Cal Poly champ a “better” path to AA ultimately keeps those programs alive. As long as conference tournaments remain the qualifiers, it makes sense to treat those conferences with respect, even though we all know that some years/weights the Big10 has 7/8 guys all better than a fringe conference champ.
  16. I started wrestling in the tights era (not leggings, ffs), and they were made from a cross between painting dropcloths and USMC-issued blankets. Nonetheless, they were great at sliding and minimizing mat burns. With the advent of spandex and other newer fabrics, wearing them would be a no brainer for me if I was to start wrestling nowadays.
  17. I was curious how Elam was ranked so low after his lone loss to Surber, so I used the compare feature to see the prediction for matchups between him and everyone ranked higher. Sure enough, the comparison feature predicted an Elam win over every other 197. That internal incongruity seems problematic. I’m curious if anyone else has looked at other scenarios and found anything similar? Seems to me if your algorithm predicts that a wrestler wins every possible match, he should probably be ranked #1, unless there is a nemesis who repeatedly upsets him but is inconsistent and loses to multiple other wrestlers. Just another quirky factoid that is wrestlestat.
  18. Not for me. Clicking on the finals stream gets me a prompt to pick a provider. Won’t let me past that. I watched the first 3 sessions with no issues.
  19. Sumbitch, I have no cable. Can’t watch the finals.
  20. Moved to Columbia in 2005 and Coach Smith courted my business for support. I was impressed by him and started supporting the Tigers. I had access that I didn’t even know was possible for fans/boosters. Watched many practices and even became the announcer for a few seasons to jazz up the product. Cyclones are still my other team.
  21. I was good, not great. Above average, I guess. 4 year varsity starter, state qualifier (large school class-MN), won a couple state titles in free/greco as middle schooler. I was better at free than folk, beating multiple state folk medalists in free over the years. I coached a little while in the Marines. HS teammate was Minny’s starting heavy for 4 years in late 80’s. Partied with the 92 Oly team in Barcelona because Kendall Cross and I had crossed paths a few times in free, mostly at youth camps. Started wrestling in 1977 AAU because my dad grew up in Ames and was an usher at ISU matches during Gable’s reign of terror.
  22. You seem to be making the erroneous assumption that all these ducks recently are driven by the wrestler’s preferences. They most assuredly are not. The coaches alone make these ducking decisions. KOT, Carr, or the 75th ranked guy, doesn’t matter, they all want to compete against the best. Only coaches play these games.
  23. How does Siebrecht have 13 matches but an even 50.00% bonus pct then? That was math I could do in my head.
