  1. Smith WAS a great coach. Back in the day, EVERYONE knew who JS was, and his accomplishments. These young bucks weren't alive when he was winning the olympics. Go look at Lovett on his recruiting. He didn't know JS, but he knew Jordan Burroughs. Tell me an okie state wrestler that he has "developed" from a good wrestler to a GREAT wrestler. Just this year, Mastro shows he is declining, agree? Fix was and is always a stud, but do you feel like he has got "better". Plott maybe? I feel like Plott has got better, but it is hard to see kids that you are thinking, man he is growing in that room and getting better. I am not even a PSU fan, but you can see that growth every year.
  2. This is always a tough tourney, and there are always some great matches. Stillwater and Edmond North will be in this. Oklahoma has some nationally ranked kids scattered throughout, and this tourney is a blind draw.

    Flo :(

Commercials suck, but I have watched two events now, and on both occasions that had "technical difficulty". Camera's off and I could not watch anything for a long period of time.
  4. I know Troy very well, he actually wrestled for us and our room was LEGIT. His family has made big time sacrifices to get him where he is at. He is tough as hell. Many don't know, he started at SEM, went to Oklahoma and then he went down to Texas and trained his ass off. He is going to be good, no doubt.
  5. I have never doubted ability, I questioned is off the mat decisions.
  6. I don't see it being a good dual. 125 will be fun and 174
  7. I am bipolar about feelings on Askren. He always comes across as this self-righteous guy, making fun of youth tournaments called "national" tournaments, or getting on parents how they treat their kids. I have a good friend that wrestled at Syracuse, his 14 year old is wrestling at a tourney where Askren was at. My buddies kid loses, and throws his head gear across the gym, almost hit another kid. My buddy snatches his kid up and says, you go walk down there and get that headgear and apologize to the kid you almost hit. Kid starts throwing an even bigger fit "NO!" " I don't want to!" buddy says, if you don't, I am going in the hallway and bust your a$$. Askren, catching part of this discussion, must have overheard "I am going to bust your a$$" part walks up to my buddy and says, something like "hey you cannot do that to your kid after a loss, parents like you are why kids stop wrestling" etc....my buddy tells him he needs to mind his own business, there were a few more words and then the day went on. BUT then, I read some parts of his book, and I love his mindset on certain things. So, again, I have mixed feelings on Askren.
  8. Poulin has looked pretty good thus far. The tourney has been fun for me to watch, tons of young guys that I know and seeing them do well is awesome. We had (3) guys out of our highschool room that competed and are doing pretty well.
  9. They are tough, Jason Kraft coached them some while they were younger. Kraft coached several of those kids in Cali
  10. Got it. It take anything a mom says with a grain of salt. My only issue is IF Lee was pissed that Ayala wanted to wrestle him. Lee was going to beat Ayala under any circumstance. The argument that Lee could have got hurt by wrestling Ayala is my debate.
  11. So, a match with a teammate is dangerous, but wrestling everyone else is not? you cannot have it both ways, someone touched on this earlier. You WANT the young buck to say, lets go, kick my ass or not, I wanna wrestle, don't ya? I get it, two major knee surgeries, but if there is doubt, wrestle in the room until mid january, no real matches. He has been there for 5 years, he does not need the experience. At the end of the day, however anyone feels, Lee should respect that Ayala wanted to wrestle, IMO. Maybe after everything calms down, he will ask himself if he would have felt the same way at 20. I am not an iowa or lee hater, I am a wrestling fan. I understand armchair coaching is stupid, and it is just an opinion.
  12. that makes sense, and makes the comments see even more petty. No matter what, parents need to keep everything in the room, good or bad. I know my kids would murder me if I took to posting comments about the program on social media. Anyway, I did not know what was going on with these two.
  13. who is the professional hater of all things Hawkeye? A mom that her son wrestles for the Hawkeye's?
  14. Ok, explain the difference to a dummy like me. From what she said, I took it as, Lee does his own thing, and is not in the room with the team. How do you interpret her comment?
  15. I have said this many times, and this is a great point. Take it further, little Johnny who is 8, wanted to go watch the scuffle to watch his favorite wrestlers. Mom and Dad save up, this is a mini vacation and let's face it wrestling is not cheap to watch, and none of little Johnny's heroes are there. Complete dud. How do you grow this sport by doing this? Is it the weight cuts, is it I don't want to give that guy a look more than once? Pretty frustrating overall.
  16. Rumors are, Lee was feeling it after his semi's match, knees were sore etc. Ayala wins his semi's and Lee thought it was a lock, don't wrestle just forfeit. Ayala wanted the match, I don't think it was a disrespectful move, but let me see where I am at move. Pissed Lee off, and Brands could not tell them NOT to wrestle. Lee gets the fall, pushes off Ayala's face, says some stuff and then gave it to the corner. Mom takes to social media. I think what I am most shocked about, the comment that Lee does not practice with the team? Maybe it is BS, but that is shocking. Armchair QB moment, and with Portals and NIL deals, it would be really hard to take this stance...but you cannot let these kids run your program. I know for a fact AJ Ferrari was killing the poke room. Not many liked him, it was about AJ and not the TEAM. Smith sold his soul to the devil, and all he could do was watch it all unfold. I am not at all comparing AJF and Lee, I am only saying, these coaches need to try to control the room the best they can. Again, easier said than done, I know.
  17. What is the deal here? Lee pushed off of his face after the match and was saying something after he pinned Ayala. Ayala’s mom got on social media saying Lee doesn’t practice with the team and her kid is smart etc… what’s up!
  18. all good points. My son is a freshman in college and he said the mental part is the biggest challenge. It is a full time job, practice and then school, then lifting, then "extra" when you are not where you want to be.
  19. I just watched the Dresser interview. Sounds a lot like a coaching decision on Coleman and Carr. "resting because they are old".
  20. No, I agree there are wrestlers that feel that way too. BUT, you hope there are coaches out there do not allow it to happen.
