  1. My guess is that this one is on the athletic department. I'm sure the athletic department administered the seminar, not the coaches. Gotta give those 20+ Assistant Ads something to keep them busy! https://hawkeyesports.com/staff-directory/
  2. So if someone is accused of a crime, they should just plead guilty and submit to the punishment and not fight in court? If someone sues you for a large amount, are you just going to pay them the money, or are you going to hire an attorney. Of course you will just pay them what they are looking for! You want to be accountable! Let's be real here, most of us would choose all the avenues available to us to lessen or diminish any negative consequences we are faced with, legally, civilly, at work, etc. He is doing his due diligence, as we would expect. Exhaust the appeals, even if there is little chance of success. I don't blame him.
  3. Ask his athletes if they thinks he cares. He cares enough to follow through on this. I'm all for whatever consequence they get. They knew what they did was verboten and did it anyway. But I don't expect the coach to quit on them, and I also think that he cares about the kids. He's going to see this to the end and then go from there.
  4. For what? Brands has do do his job and follow through all the way with this. I wouldn't expect he gets what he is looking for. I don't think he expects success. But to suggest he just "shut up and take it" is a bit narrow minded.
  5. Part of what he can control is the appeals process, and as he has said he is not quitting. The process is still ongoing.
  6. Right... not U20 Worlds. U20 age group nationals gets you a handshake and a stop sign, but not an Olympic redshirt. You are literally wrong. He gets the Olympic redshirt because of his two cadet bronzes. Next!
  7. https://legislature.vermont.gov/Documents/2016/WorkGroups/House General/Bills/S.223/Written Testimony/S.223~Wendy Koenig~NCAA Student-Athlete Gambling Behaviors and Attitudes- 2004-2012~4-13-2016.pdf It was 26% in 2012. They were doing a new survey this Fall. Not sure if any data is public. With technological advances and legalized wagering, I would be surprised if the % hasn't increased.
  8. I agree with a lot of this, but still am not sure why his weight is tougher than 86, 97, or 125. Pretty tough to beat Yaz, Taylor, Snyder, Saduleev, Taz, Geno, Taha, or Zare. Yianni's weight has parity, but none of the star power or consistency or the studs at 86, 97, 125.
  9. The implication was that Cael's boys follow all the rules. Knowing the rules doesn't mean you follow them all, agreed. I have no real problem with the suspensions or punishments. I have said so from the beginning. I just despise the "holier than thou" attitudes.
  10. I think you're mostly right. My initial post was a response to someone posting about Messenbrink talking about how PSU wrestlers are taught to follow all rules to the letter of the law.... and they all do. I was merely responding to the absurdity.
  11. Terrible stuff, but I was just told "false equivalency" so a moot point. An AK 47? Are you sure? Really? Were there charges filed regarding the drive by? I am far from a fan of the older Ferrari boys. So you are coming out as pro- DUI? The point was : Cael's guys screw up too, even though they've been told not to.
  12. Do you think these guys were told not to rape or drive while drunk? The point is, even Cael's choirboys sometimes break rules.

  14. I think the AG is generally the person in charge of a DOJ. Not sure how it varies from state to state, but the AG is usually in charge. I don't think there were actual crimes committed by Iowa wrestlers, but they were breaking NCAA rules which were reported. Also, I have been told that most NCAA violations are self-reported. I was told this when I was part of a group reported to the NCAA (but not disciplined).
  15. Isn't a lot of the ire being directed at the AG's office?
  16. I was in no way slighting PSU! (for once) I was actually saying that it is difficult to recruit career 125s and recruiting is probably a more likely explanation than "Cael can't coach 125 lbers." Sorry that you are so fragile!
  17. Yes. You can talk about how many NCAA champs are at a particular weight, but maybe half of those guys are too small or are cutting too much weight.
