  1. Really? There is an actual definition. One of my college roommates/training partners was on the national team for over a decade. Never was the #1 guy. He would never say he was a world team member. (but he wanted to be one) Like it REALLY is a thing to be on the World Team or Olympic Team. People aspire to it. You wouldn't call am Olympic Team alternate an Olympian, would you? https://pennsylvaniartc.org/athletes/richard-perry/ Says "national team." You could say Brooks and McKenna were World Team members. They both made age group teams, so not technically incorrect. However the Penn RTC does make the "age group" qualifier. https://pennsylvaniartc.org/athletes/joey-mckenna/
  2. On another positive note, do we have a "Minnow curse?" Teams are 0-2 this year when he posts his "really cool special outfit" to watch the match in, followed by taking some selfies like a 15 year old girl. Both Rutgers and ISU suffered somewhat embarrassing defeats after the Minnow outfit posts.
  3. No, he was not on the World Team. Only one guy per weight is on the World Team. He was on the "national team."
  4. I fully agree, as I did then. However, Labriola flopped to his own back out of frustration/desperation in order to create something.
  5. . It WAS 100% a scramble. Labriola flopped to his back out of desperation, trying to create a scamble to make something happen. I agree he was frustrated and was trying to make something happen. But it wasn't a turn for Starocci. Just stop pretending it was! On the other hand, I am fully in agreement that Arnold is not nearly ready for Starocci.
  6. Great guy. Amazing story. But not a world team member. Not sure where you got that info.
  7. I'm no wrestling genius, but someone named Ben Askren (who knows scrambling) indicated that Labriola executed that scramble in an incorrect manner that led to the pinfall. Its not like Starocci cranked him over with a bar or a power half. Anyone who has wrestled has to admit that "Labs" did Starocci a favor. We have all won matches like that, and most of us probably lost some. It is what it is. 3:32
  8. Did he pin "Labs", or did "Labs" pin himself?
  9. There is nothing about these two statements that is necessarily contradictory. Get guys in the right spots (for the team) and then coach them each to their fullest potential. If everyone reaches their goals, you are going to have a successful team.
  10. How many techs does Starocci have in his career? Are we talking the same Starocci that squeaked by Nelson Brands in a home meet?
  11. Any way to verify the story that he wrestled Gilman at an age group tourney and won?
  12. BTW I love the Echemendia timeline on Iowa State's site. I've always said this, but the dates don't really add up! Posted a 52-0 record en route to an Arizona high school state title for Sunnyside High School ... double dip champion at the 2019 Junior Fargo tournament, winning both the Freestyle and Greco-Roman titles ... had never wrestled a Greco-Roman match prior to the Fargo championship run ... 2019 ‘Who’s #1’ Champion ... two-time Senior Freestyle medalist in the Cuba Nationals (silver ’18, bronze ’17) ... U23 Cuba Freestyle National Champion (2017) ... back-to-back Cuba Junior Freestyle National Champion (2016, 2017) after a runner-up finish in 2015 ... three-straight Cadet Freestyle Cuban national titles (2012-14). https://cyclones.com/sports/wrestling/roster/anthony-echemendia/12714
  13. Almost reminiscent of Woods vs. Swiderski last year? I'm not sure how familiar you are with Echemendia? Not only is he probably my least favorite wrestler currently in a lineup at a D1 school, but also is excellent on his feet and possesses world class talent. Not easy to get a ton of takedowns over. He beat Swideski in the 149 wrestle-off and is now down a weight. He has done "nothing" his entire NCAA career because he only wrestled one year and was lost for the season after a brutal Eierman cradle. Then he had some legal, disciplinary, and transfer related issues. He is no joke.
  14. A big part of Iowa States takedown advantage was David Carr and Yonger Batista who wrestled the two more overmatched opponents of the night. Iowa didn't really face any individuals that they were capable of running up the score on. Kennedy tried and ended up fading.
  15. It also apparently depends on the color of the singlet.
  16. I thought some of the stall calls were a bit suspect.
  17. I am loving how still photos are being used as "evidence" by posters that points were or were not scored. Also loving how people seem to want the "no reaction time takedown" from rear standing to magically reappear after most everyone hated it a year ago.
  18. But he probably beats Glazier on paper, and they didn't even try.
  19. Not to mention that Dresser maybe could have pulled some bumping shenanigans of his own, with a number of supposedly solid guys between 165-184.
  20. You don't think he has mentioned this to them?
  21. Tough to see reaction time on a still photo.
  22. I don't think we will see Swafford again this season, unfortunately.
  23. He was supposed to be there last year (according to Askren), but days later was not entered. Not to say that he was ducking anyone, he's great, but he didn't wrestle there last year.
