  1. Everyone makes fun of Kemmerer at Iowa for 7 years or whatever. (Including him making fun of himself). I think he ended up with three degrees, however. Granted, probably not engineering, but Kem was a good student. (I believe he was highly recruited by Cornell, Lehigh, Stanford. Not sure if accepted)
  2. PSU looks like runaway favorites, so I don't think this will change that, Feel bad for the kid. Seems to get hurt a bit in recent years? Was anyone else a bit concerned about Kerk's knee vs. Lehigh?
  3. Yes... I liked the slip throw as a competitor, because I would always "slip" as soon as a better wrestler got a tight hold on me in Greco or freestyle. Worked pretty well until the year they started making you stay par terre after the slip. 91?
  4. Are they allowed to use PSU methods elsewhere or do they sign an NDA ?
  5. Yeah, at that time the "last chance" was a USA Regional with cadets, junior, espoir, senior. Anyone could enter. It wasn't officially a last chance, but it was the last qualifying tourney on the schedule. But I definitely get your point.
  6. Remember Zeke blocking Sammy Henson in 96, I think? Sammy trying to qualify fot OTT at a regional, I think it was his last oppurtunity...Zeke knew this, showed up at regional, beat Sammy to keep him out of trials
  7. And when he was in college we heard that he wasn't wrestling enough freestyle matches...
  8. I'll occasionally do it i neutral, but not on the mat (Which Askren wants to see!!!)
  9. Andonian vs Ed Scott matches have 18x times the offense of the average college match. I was fortunate enough to see one in person. Just fun.
  10. LOL this actually came from a teammate who thought that "jet lag" was actually "jet leg." He wasn't the smartest.
  11. Has anyone considered possible "jet leg?' That's where your legs are cramped up on a long flight and walking is tough after. My teammate claimed he got this on the way to national duals. I would say that it is certainly something that could decrease performance.
  12. It actually does, but probably closer to what MidWest is talking about. Creating PDs can be construed as stalling, which is a penalty. I know you want a penalty for an illegal hold, I get it. It would probably have to become a point of emphasis for officials for this to happen. Twisting kneelock is illegal, but there probably needs to be a bit clearer definition and emphasis.
  13. In high school, the call is often used when someone tries to get a PD by standing up with legs in, or throwing a leg in after the opponent stands up. Fairly common, and happened in OT of PA state finals this year. Repeatedly forcing re-starts by utilizing a referee's PD call is a stall.
  14. High school allows an official to make a stall call anytime a wrestler repeatedly intentionally creates a PD situation.
  15. https://victorybellrings.com/2021/12/05/penn-state-wrestling-full-results-lehigh/ 2021 dual it was It certainly makes sense to sit guys based on Cael's philosophy and all the stuff coming up for them.
  16. The recurring Lehigh flu. (and I'm actually joking, not mean-spirited; but I do remember they sat some guys against Lehigh in the past and we were told "flu.")
  17. True, but that wasn't what I was hearing when I brought up Provo as someone Koll took with him. I was hearing '3rd stringer at best, no big loss.' Not bad for a 3rd stringer.
  18. As far as Nico Provo: I have been told more than once on this board that Provo switching his commitment to Stanford from Cornell wasn't really a loss to the Big Red program 'because he would never start over Ungar or Greg D.' Well, after having a great tournament this weekend, he has made it look like a big loss to Grey's program. Either Koll knew this kid had greater potential than Ungar or he's received better coaching in Palo Alto.
