  1. No. Plus, trophies should never be named for a person unless they are dead or retired.
  2. Continuing on: I have also heard a national champ/Olympian question the validity. I trained with an World/Olympic placer (non-USA) for 3+ years who, though he never admitted to PED abuse, he was selling a masking agent to athletes at a local college. This same competitor had previously been associated with one of the top clubs and programs in our country.
  3. I had at least three athletes of shorter stature that were legally prescribed hGH when I was a high school coach at a very ritzy private school. These are the kids that I am aware of. I'm not even counting this as doping.
  4. Well, I know someone who doped and was really worried about his results, took 2nd in nationals, urinated in a cup... and never heard about it again. Is that good enough for you?
  5. Regular eligibility is exhausted. He made it sound like he's done.
  6. No one asks guys to wrestle 50 matches. Just ones on the schedule.
  7. I question the legitimacy of these tests, what they test for, and how accurate they are, and I have heard NCAA champs/Olympians also question them.
  8. If this was UWW, we would be told that 125 was the best and deepest weight class because so many guys are capable of winning titles/placing. (ala 65 kg)
  9. After watching "The Dual" on Prime, I was impressed by how much camaraderie there is/was between those Iowa and Iowa State squads. Multiple Iowa State guys spoke fondly of Alger and his actions before, during, and after their college careers. He seems beloved by those guys. As I may have mentioned before, he is also tight with the Smith family, which is why he wears the cowboy hat to Oklahoma State duals. Particularly amusing was Van Arsdale's story of he and Alger riding together on a float for the Lisbon, IA sauerkraut festival. I think he is firmly out of heel territory.
  10. I was just thinking about how I just watched "The Dual" on Amazon Prime. Pretty good little show. It never would have existed if Iowa or Iowa State held out their "hurt" guys. Also: Iowa used the loss to propel their team to one of the greatest postseason runs ever, while Iowa State built upon their win with a national title the next year. Lessons are learned from both wins and losses in tough matches.
  11. I guess I'm "old school" now, but I can't imagine someone not toeing the line in a dual unless a limb was falling off. Why not wrestle regionals and nationals and no other events? For some of these teams its a race to get a good individual win and then sit their guy for the rest of his tough matches all year. Not a lot of pride involved.
  12. I think there's something to all of that. Meanwhile schools such as MIT, Williams College, Wesleyan, etc. have some of the best academics in the world.
  13. Everyone is always hurt! It is college wrestling! Cornell just chose to play the "hurt card" when it was beneficial to them. Everyone knew that Vito and Shapiro were "nicked up" prior to the Nashville trip.
  14. Broadway and independent "sports entertainment" promotions have a lot in common!
  15. Except Foca... who needed a ranked win. He was healthy.
  16. Although I hear the Broadway section of Nashville is quite a bit of fun!
  17. ... when you rob the fans of time and money by engaging in PPV "duck-a-thons."
  18. Yes. Since when does "tweaked anything" keep a guy out of a match? Since when are guys expected to be 100% healthy or they don't toe the line? And I think you said it all: "David Carr." I'm sure Ramirez would be good to go if the next dual was against Duke.
  19. No, he did not pay off Cornell. I'm sure he wanted to give his guys a crack against Mike Grey's mallards.
  20. Yeah, I think this just sealed the deal... I'll be flying to Raleigh to see the Wolfpack take on VA Tech and not the "Little Red."
