  1. I wonder if the EIWA might look to replace the departing Ivy schools with new members. Not sure what schools, if any, make sense though. Not like former member Rutgers is leaving B1G or anything.
  2. did TJ wrestle lower weight at Ok St than in HS? I know he wrestled 119 at Dapper Dan vs future UNC teammate Ty Moore (RIP) and was at 126 while at Ok St. Maybe he dropped for Dapper Dan from whatever he wrestled his senior year in HS.
  3. He did. But was still an awesome season with all those pins and 50 or so wins. Cliff was a stylistic match- up problem, that’s the way it goes sometimes, but Scott was going to be the Hodge winner until that happened.
  4. One of the best single seasons for any wrestler that did not win the championship.
  5. Lock Haven coach Scott Moore wrestled a ton of matches at Penn St and UVA.
  6. I'm going to disagree with you because IMO NCSt is already an established program, though IF they do finish 2nd that's a significant jump even from their steady success of late. Now, maybe keep an eye on Coach Pop's old assistant Frank Beasley, he's slowly making progress at GMU. Hopefully they can be a top team in MAC soon and get some guys contending for AA spots.
  7. current Virginia Tech assistant coach and Oklahoma NCAA champ Cody Brewer, (Dr.) Jim Martin, the Banach brothers, Coach Strobel from Lehigh (RIP), just a few that come to mind
  8. agreed and he also has wins over 3 of those 4, maybe all 4. Not sure if he wrestled and beat Guererro earlier in the year he lost to him at NCAAs. I know he avenged regular season loss to Tirapelle at Big Ten same year, had multiple wins over Abe the year McGiness won his first title, and he avenged regular season loss to Cunningham in the NCAA finals same year.
  9. what 4 timer has lost to the most NCAA champs? Stieber I guess with the 1 loss to Retherford? 3 timer? Tom Brands has 3 that I can think of - Jim Martin, Kendall Cross, and Alan Fried. Anyone else for him or what about other 3 timers? 2 timer? Jeff McGuiness has 4 that I can think of - Sanshiro Abe, Eric Guererro, Casey Cunningham, and Adam Tirapelle. Anyone else for him or what about other 2 timers? thinking JP O'Connor's 6 is going to stand as most for a 1 timer.
  10. random question - was Wessell the one with a judo background?
  11. And Goldman avenged his final loss from previous year in the process
  12. Cyler? How many Sanderson bros are on staff?
  13. so I guess he won't be wrestling at the Collegiate Duals in December. Lock Haven has NC State, Ohio State, and Northern Iowa at that event, so he would potentially face Jack, Mendez, and Happel respectively. FWIW, wrestlestat has him losing by major to all 3. Tough comp, it would be nice to see him wrestle those guys and get a better idea of where he stands early in the season.
  14. thanks. blind squirrel in full force today
  15. as for PSU MOV, I vote no. I see a 135-80 type margin.
  16. so that Iowa .5 margin of victory in 1978 - took a look at that bracket to see if there was anything especially noteworthy that could have been the difference. See that Frank Santana from Iowa St lost by default in the finals. So that inspired me to see if I could find any details on that. from SI vault: Santana's opponent was Ron Jeidy of Wisconsin, who led 3-1 with slightly more than two minutes to go in the second period. At that point Jeidy tried a takedown. Santana fought him off. In the process, however, Santana severely wrenched his right knee. Time was called while his trainer and coach examined him. When action resumed, Santana stumbled to keep his balance. So Iowa State Coach Dr. Harold Nichols stepped on the mat and signaled that he would not allow Santana to continue. Thus, Iowa won by half a point and earned Gable, a 1972 Olympic gold medalist, his first title in two years as coach. Iowa had to sweat it out - Sports Illustrated Vault | SI.com
  17. Was Hamlin the one they called Vermonster? Going way back, I think Lehigh great Colin Kilrain was a New England guy too. As for the higher goals, hear you but think it also applies in many states. I’m good friends with a guy who coaches for a top club program in Virginia. He told me not too long ago that’s a problem here, most kids set the goal of being state champs but aren’t working to be national caliber/D1 types.
  18. Yagla beat Kemp in ‘75 and won again in ‘76. Kemp went up a weight in ‘76 to get his 1st title.
  19. 1980 Joe Gonzales scored 94 in 5 matches after winning by DSQ in pig-tail. 25-11, 20-7, 27-7, 16-7, 6-3. Pre TF days of course.
  20. Lewboo’s teammate Mike Deanna might have been more hyped coming out of HS, fwiw it was worth in that era.
  21. I don’t recall Cole Matthews giving up double digit points or getting bonused very often.
  22. Looking around at old brackets courtesy of wrestlingstats. 1988 Scott Turner scored 36 total so way too many for this exclusive club. What I found interesting is his cumulative margin of victory was 35, he only gave up 1 point. To the original poster, I guess this was extremely inefficient. With that kind of D he could have eased up and won every pre finals match 1-0.
  23. that's a crazy stat, given all your accolades!
