  1. Didn't Minnow say Brands wad done and Swatford was in? Why haven't we seen Swatford? Staying on redshirt?
  2. Brands is starting at 174 and the dual at 165. A good chance Iowa will be up five matches to zero at the break with 3 or 4 via bonus and the momentum clearly on their side. There is a chance they pull off 174 still, but considering these, I have it 7-3 for Iowa, with Schriever and Murin winning. Momentum in Carver is a real bitch. ~30-10 Hawkeyes win.
  3. Also, Iowa can very much win 133 and flipping 125 or 141 would not entirely surprise me.
  4. 6. When I say 22-18ish I mean 22ish-18ish. A 21-19 match would be acceptable by me there. I think Iowa knows and will get pins where it needs or high majors. Penn likely won't bonus anywhere, if so it's a major at like... 174.
  5. I have Zapf winning, but Iowa getting bonus at 165, 184, and 285 to pull off a win. 22-18ish.
  6. Voinovich and Mastro qere competing at 149 last year to be the heir apparent to G/Boo. Mastro had been mentioned as an option at 165 in several interviews prior to G having announced his return and Sheets having not perceptually settled on a weight class yet.
  7. Ew. No. I want Voinovich to be the starter, with G and Sheets manning 157/165. I won't bet against that. I am going off what the OSU gents (and coaches ) have been preaching.
  8. In additional to all of this, Ryan Anderson has been competing at 149 as well right? I had thought that Mastro and Anderson would man 157/165 but now that makes me think Mastro at 165 and that irks me. Mastro has consistently gotten horsed over 150lbs going back to high school. He is a 157lber at best, if he grows. Ryan Anderson from 149 to 165 in an offseason is a stretch.
  9. By early to mid January it won't matter. G will be the starter at 149 for the 'boys. That said, he is clearly the guy they like behind G, as they had Mastro start trying to pack on the meat for a higher weight class. I also wouldn't take too much from a Blockhus victory, on the chance he wins. I mean no disrespect to any of the 141lbers or 149lbers, but the reason we see guys like Zargo or Blockhus as AA contenders is that other guys left the weight class - either to graduation or on redshirt. They are the type of guys that start Top 6-12 and end lower because other new guys that are new to their lineups (Voinovich) or new to D1(Swiderski) or new to the weight(Bartlett) will finally get their shot. This said, Blockus did impress me in his JO match this last spring. His performance there got overshadowed by Zapf's breakout.
  10. I believe Smith has gone on record saying that Young is a full sized 141lber now. I OSU terms that means he is ~25% over the 141lb limit each Monday () He has also said that Fix plans on going 57 KG, so 141 is out of the question. That said, a good example to compare to would be Micic. Micic's insufficiencies last year were health and strength. Neither of which he was going to do anything about on a month's notice. Fix has his health and isn't going to be outmuscled by (m)any of this year's 141lbers. If his goal weren't 2024 Olympics at 57 KG, then I absolutely agree. Hell, after his silver I was all for him to go at 141 and preferred he give 65 KG a geaux rather than 57 KG. He just looks a different, better wrestler when he isn't cutting down to 57 KG. Beard is a good sized and strong 197lber. He didn't cede any strength to Surber, but Surber's strength should play a factor against a lot of the R12/R16 guys - thinking gents like Tanner Harvey. I am not saying you are overestimating Surber's strength, or power - just that you might be underestimating what some of the 197lbers are bringing to the table.
  11. Do you think Whiting or Hawkes will be at 197 for a year after Elam or do you expect Sinclair to step right in after Redshirt? Also, 157 next year? You thinking Mauller?
  12. Actually yes. Absolutely. Please do. Make sure you emphasize the guy on the BBS never said he thought that was what would happen, just that he hopes it would. Because Mocco would contend there next season.
  13. You have absolutely zero data to reinforce that sort of statement. Now you are just being silly. Mr. Askren has eluded to it being what he should do several times on FRL over the last couple/few years. Are you closer to the situation than him? Back to the original subject at hand: If Mocco were to go 157 it would make sense to have Harman go 174 and Whiting and Hawkes battle it out at 184 from next year on.
  14. Man, if Iowa rolls out the lineup they have been and Penn rolls out the lineup they have been then Penn could take this. Wrestlestat has Penn winning 18-17 (Murin over Zapf too).
  15. Shane Sparks often speaks about current mental state being one of the largest factors.

    Yianni

He is an impressive individual, certainly. I still have him taking 149 at NCAAs.
  17. Also, imagine if Lewis decided to take a serious run at 74 KG just after the season and made the drop to 165 as well.
  18. @Wrestleknownothing? I believe the question is directed at you, ya robart.
  19. I mean... so what? What does that change about anything I said? Most of the top 165lbers now would cut to make 174 were they not eating peas and carrots, or whatever Beyonce said. He won't contend at 174 because the top 174lbers are true 174lbers. He has the skill to compete with just about anyone, but he won't make it through that slog unscathed. If he adjusts his diet and starts heading down properly and immediately after the season, he will be right there contending for a NC - at 157lbs - next season.
  20. If you read what I said was that perhaps they swap, then. Meaning O'Toole going 174. Unfortunately both are 165lbers. I maintain my initial statement. I hope he goes down to 157. If he can make 165 now, which looks obvious to me - he isn't close to a full 174lber, then an offseason of training and adjusting to get to 157 isn't insane.
  21. I disagree on the size part, but agree on the rest - for the most part. He looks like he could easily make 165. Hidlay last year looked thicker than he did, and he was one season removed from 157.
  22. Then maybe they swap? He just isn't a 174lber. As I said.. I HOPE it happens, not that I think it will.
  23. From NCAA release on it itself points toward both being true...? www.ncaa.com/news/wrestling/article/2022-04-02/dan-hodge-trophy-history-winners-and-how-it-works%3famp How wrestlers are selected for the award: Originally created to celebrate the pin in college wrestling, the Dan Hodge Trophy is based on seven criteria including record, number of pins, dominance, past credentials, quality of competition, sportsmanship/citizenship and heart. The trophy is based primarily on the results of a single season, but past accomplishments are considered as well, particularly in years where the competition is tighter. The winner of the Hodge Trophy is determined based on a voting process that includes previous Hodge members, national media members, retired college coaches from each region of the United States and a representative of the national wrestling organizations in the country. Each voter is given one ballot containing the finalists, typically a group of approximately four undefeated wrestlers from the previous season, though the 2021 season included six finalists. Fans also have a chance to vote for the Hodge winner, and the athlete with the most fan votes will receive two first-place votes in the count. Voting is typically conducted after the conclusion of the NCAA tournament, and the winner is announced in April. Schools traditionally honor the Hodge winner during a fall football game as well.
  24. Just going off what Askren said on FRL many moons ago. He said he found out that Steveson ended up winning the vote and it gave him the separation criteria to win. Whether or not folks care to admit it, Askren would be much more in the know on this than the average bbs keyboard warrior is.
  25. He didn't beat a guy that beat Amine, though?
