  1. Boise State .... Top 10 team for several years...started the year #2 when Kirk White, Kirk Smith, Hochstrasser, etc. were there. Several national champs - White, Cherrington, etc. AD sent an assistant to the wrestling room while they had recruits on campus in the room to let Mendoza know the program was cut. Admin would not even have a meeting or accept any deal to self fund the program....they wanted baseball.... which folded before even getting started.
  2. I agree with that assessment.... He needs a year in the room to develop. Rogers at 184 is definitely his best weight.
  3. impressive! Record shattering performance Do think Walters will start as a true freshman?
  4. Can you add your R12 guys? I just want to see how my team is doing so far.
  5. Good idea - Too bad we couldn't' get some of these professional athletes to put together a fundraiser of sorts for a good cause in wrestling - there are quite a few of them with wrestling backgrounds, especially in the NFL. Would be fun to see - but I am sure their teams and unions would have none of that due to potential injury.
  6. I'm going with Steiber in the lower-middle weight class. He's not as far removed from his competitive career as many of the guys mentioned.
  7. Yes ... technically that could happen. Added to this before the clock started could be a gray shirt, being held back in middle school to gain a year of experience for high school and a religious mission. By following the guidelines and "rules' it could be possible to have a 31 year old senior. Even though I don't think that will happen, it is within the rules.
  8. Yep I agree....I would "assume" the conversations took place before his transfer, which is why I think a move to 133 would be an after the fact move. I am not in the know if the Spratley move was only weight.
  9. 4x AA and a runner-up finish is a great career. I would think of him as a Tiger before a Hawkeye. Similar to this situation, I will always regard Griffith as a Stanford Tree and Truax a Cal Poly Mustang, even if he wins a title this. year. Desanto will always be a Hawkeye - 1 year at Drexel then transfers and becomes a 4x AA for Iowa...there is no doubt he is a Hawkeye. In the end, Eirman is not an Iowa legend. He's like many guys now who have transferred for their final year and successfully filled a need on a competitive team.
  10. I am pretty sure that the plan is to keep Kaylor at 125 and Whisenhunt at 133. I am not sure how big Maximo is if he would be the one to go up to 133 to challenge.
  11. I think it will run through 25-26 with the first group that got the free year.
  12. Yep... I like him battling in the room with BK (kaylor). It's going to make them both better.
  13. No... big difference between being there 4 years and being there 1 year.
  14. Hmmmm....looks like as of yesterday the criminal investigations are not over as 4 ISU football players and 3 Iowa football players are bing charged.
  15. Yep - in the early 1900's it had a different name - PCC I think it was called where they played random teams from the East. I think the Pac vs Big10 era started in the 40's and continued on. Both leagues have had slightly different names. But I don't recall reading or ever hearing of a Big 8 vs Pac tradition in the Rose Bowl.
  16. You really missed the boat when you left out probably the most famous person from Illinois.... Juice Wrld.
  17. Yep - that's why it's in parenthesis.... the other years are freestyle. 4x they won Jr. Freestyle and Cadet freestyle the same year. When did Big Boards start? I don't remember that being a big thing back in 2010 ish.
  18. They haven’t been bad and definitely had a good 2023 with a national champ and several AA. Best showing in a while. In reference to the time frames I listed (at a later college age) they were pretty consistently in the #4-6 range in terms of total AA but had very few finalists and champs. Not bad but not as dominating as you saw them in HS. Maybe my expectations are too high for a state that won fargo in both jr and cadet for several years in a row.
  19. My counterpoint to your counterpoint: Is HS wrestling value as a state measured by how well they do at Fargo or how well that translates to the next level? Illinois has won Fargo Jrs as a team in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2017 (08-17 in Greco - 10 straight) They won Cadets in 09, 10, 11, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17. I haven't seen 2018-2022. It's easy to look at these results and see that they have been the best HS state as far as Fargo goes. However, another measurement would be how that has translated to the college level. Looking at the HS results, you would think that the NCAA would be full of champs and AA from the state of Illinois.
  20. 1. No, nothing was ever said about that. A new conference featuring left over Pac schools and the MW or the best teams from the MW would not want N. Colorado because they are in the Big Sky and would not bring anything to the conference overall. Sorry if you're a UNC fan, but as a whole school, including athletics as a whole, they are not up there with the likes of Oregon State, Stanford, Cal, WSU, SDSU, Boise St. etc. Those schools would want more legitimacy to a conference. . From a wrestling standpoint, I don't think UNC would want to do it anyway. They are in a good spot wrestling in the B12. 2. Very well aware since I have lived most of my life in the Treasure Valley and have even helped in events to bring back BSU wrestling. It would be great if they did. 3. IF there is a new conference to be made, it is possible they could have the schools in the conference to have their own wrestling conference. If the Pac schools (Oregon State and Stanford) are part of a new conference with the MW (Wyoming and Air Force), and Bakersfield, Poly and Little Rock tag along, there will be enough teams to create a wrestling conference because they would have enough member teams. Even if Little Rock left, which would be good for them to be on the East coast, they would still have enough. Would WAC teams follow to a new conference? Maybe the new to come Tarleton team...but Utah Valley and Cal Baptist are already in the Big 12. I doubt they would switch to a newly formed MW/PAC conference unless they wanted to be more competitive within the conference itself instead of being at the bottom of the B12. 4. Even if the Pac 12 school left overs did form a new conference or combine with the MW, there is still the chance they would not do their own conference for wrestling, even though they would have enough schools. They may all want to go to the B12 if they are let in. In the Zeke Jones interview he mentions bringing all the Pac 12 wrestling schools to the Big 12. He didn't say it would happen but he sounded like he was not opposed to it. If not, he said everyone should help. in ensuring they get to a conference.
  21. Yes, but that's not what I am talking about. Their school as a whole is in the Big Sky conference while wrestling competes in the B12. The context is teams moving to a new conference to form a new wrestling conference within that new conference. A new conference would not want N. Colorado as a whole school playing all sports along side Oregon State, Stanford, etc. They would definitely be staying in the B12 for wrestling.
