  1. Seeing Japan's smooth finesse technique is always a sight to behold
  2. Good showing from Team USA through the quarters. My four notes amongst the tons of action so far: Lee/Musukaev will be fun. Evan Henderson is must-watch TV. Down 12-12 in a typical wild one then gets a pin. Mark Hall had a naaaasty superduck for a last second win. Excited to see him against Makoev. For anyone who complains about dropping to the knees to save a stepout point, Zane Richards just did that and JPN hit a go-behind to win the match.
  3. Thank you, that means a lot coming from you! I genuinely think Nolf takes 74 and I think he has a plus/minus of +8 or higher at the end of the day.
  4. UWW Page can be found here You can watch on FloWrestling here (don't forget to turn on your Rocket Mortgage ad blockers) Wednesday is MFS 57, 61, 65, 70, 74, and 86. Thursday is MFS 79, 92, 97, 125, WFS 50-55 MFS draws have come out. Brackets are linked by weight. 57kg: Zain Richards and Darian Cruz both have tough Japan matchups out the gate. Hoping for good results but also wouldn't be surprised by bbq's 61kg: Welp. That's a bracket. Thank u next. 65kg: Great bracket as a US fan and even better bracket as a global fan. Nick Lee and Sebastian Rivera + Joey McKenne and Finesilver + Destribats and Ochir to start the morning at 65. Henderson should make quarters, winner of Lee/Seabass gets Musukaev and dear god I want to see Lee just absolutely gas him SOOOO BAD. I think McKenna has a good shot at making the finals and possibly gold but he has to be on his A game. The random draw turned this bracket into an absolute meatgrinder with some good talent watching from the bleachers. 70kg: So Hidlay decided weight cutting is fun and he's coming out of retirement? Haji should take this bracket, but I expect good comp from Berger and Pantaleo on each side of the bracket. 74kg: Another US heavy bracket but overall ehhh. Nolf should take home a gold medal but looking forward to seeing Finesilver and N Kuramagomedo. 79kg: Look, sometimes international tourneys don't always get great turnouts. And sometimes you have the first Iranian to beat Jordan Burroughs. Somehow this bracket is both. 86kg: Hall/Makoev in the quarters, winner gets Yazdani in the semis. Amine and Zahid on the other semi. This bracket is much better. 92kg: I think Moore wins the whole shebang but catching Nurmagomedov first is not so fun. 97kg: Snyder wins handily. He opens against 2022 world brone Magomedov... who was teched 10-0 by Snyder at 2022 worlds. Nice to see other schools catching onto the University of Michigan exchange student program with Ben Honis competing for Italy on the top of the bracket. J'den Cox did not get a draw so going to go ahead which confirms he is not participating as previously announced. 125kg: I thought Geno was attending so that is a real bummer. Zare should handily pick up seeding points that will be very crucial for earning the easier semi at Belgrade. Zilmer will have a tough first round, and I'm optimistic that he will hit Jordan Wood in the semis.
  5. The stay itself will be fine because fans need a bed, a beer, nachos, and excellent wrestling. But you just have to figure out how to get there and how long it will take, then you have to figure out why you are paying dense city prices for a metro population of 1 million, then you have to figure out how long until you get bck home. Other than that it's fiiiiiiine. Same problem as Coralville world cup...
  6. Zahid teched Hall off the mat last time. The gap has widened between the two since Hall last won their frosh year in folk. Zahid readily handled Amine when they met up at the Warsaw ranking tourney. A backdoor olympic bronze is still an olympic bronze, but Amine should be happy Zahid isn't following his brother's footsteps to join the MEX team. Zahid has a near-zero chance against Yazdani. I hope to be proven wrong.
  7. I expect Hall and Zahid will be paired into the same side. If not, hoooo booyyyy do I want to see Yaz and Hall. I genuinely expect a “tight” (saying that loosely) and cerebral match between Hall and Yazdani that is within two takedowns and a couple push outs. I think Hall is undersized but has a strong enough wrestling IQ to stay closer than he would against Zahid who appears to really, REALLY have Hall’s number until proven otherwise. Yazdani is a beast and runaway #2 that stole a match from Taylor, and Taylor and Nickal ran Hall out of town… I think Zahid wins his side of the bracket no matter what, I think he gets one TD or push out on Yazdani, and I think an offseason Yazdani plays with his prey like a cat playing with a mouse. Don’t look too far into the results. Will also be interesting if Amine and Hall hit. Hall is again undersized, but I find him to be a superior wrestler. If Zahid and Amine cross paths then, well, I guess we find out if it’s better to be #2 on the USA ladder or be a D1 expat. Makoev could also be a bit of a spoiler if he has a good day and deserves to be respected but I’ve been on the record before that 2022 was mickey mouse medals without Russia (Naifonov/Kurugliev).
  8. Hard to say Heil got a fair shake and I wouldn’t blame him in the slightest. He had a rule name changed after him because he was so prolific. While the majority of us are glad the rule came to be, it still stand that I t’s pretty hard to unlearn what made you a 2x national champ in just a few short months.
  9. While I'm here I wanted to drop this in as well. It's obviously wayyyy too early (or late?) for fantasy football but I know plenty of folks who are not necessarily on the data science or engineering parts of the corporate world that wanted to upskill so I passed them on to Nate's textbook. Fairly easy to digest and definitely easier to understand the second time reading and doing the exercises. $120 so it's not cheap, but much less than Udemy/Pluralsight courses of the same ilk and since it is about a fun activity lots of people play it actually makes the learning less of a chore. Items include: Python, Pandas (software built for Python), Web Scraping, Databases, SQL, Machine Learning, APIs (how you connect one web page to another) https://fantasycoding.com/ Bonus points for learning how to properly pronounce SQL
  10. Spencer Lee could hand Gilman an absolute shit-pumping to get the world team spot immediately after becoming a 4x NCAA champ and people would still be complaining about his lack of cardio. It would be even worse if he pins him in the first period because then it would just prove their point that he can't go deep into matches and he just bullies people around. This is such a worthless exercise. Just appreciate the greatness while we have it because it will be gone quicker than an ACL in the NCAA finals.
  11. I'm all about teaching a person how to fish, so I'll ask you about your methodology. Are you brute-forcing this endeavor aka visiting each page and selecting text for each athelete? If so could I offer an alternative: why don't you just build a webscraper using Python? Python is free You can learn to write basic code pretty quickly, like a matter of minutes to hours. If you don't want to do that, you can copypasta most queries if you want to speed up the process. You can brag to people that you know how to code and show off your neat little table! Take that you pleebs! You can get a better idea watching this video. My research comp team shows this to their interns and new grad analysts as part of their unofficial onboarding if the person doesn't know how to scrape yet.
  12. When you go out to eat do you ask the waitress for a giant sugar cube for that high horse of yours?
  13. He beat the following in his bracket: 2022 senior worlds 9th place Darian Cruz 2020ne OTT 2nd place Vito Arujau. 2022 2nd place. You may recall that Vito beat Fix at OTT. 2020ne third place Nate Tomasello Also in that bracket was 2020ne 4th place Zane Richards and Nick Suriano - depending who you ask, he has also found success including winning a UWW ranking tourney (2021 Deglane) that Gilman attended and did not win. That is not exactly a chump change bracket.
  14. Spencer Lee is such a bum... Call LBJ when he wins a real tournament at the senior level, like 2019 Senior Nationals... No respect until then, because a preteen mean-mugged another preteen how many years ago...
  15. "Tell me how you really feel." - Thomas Gilman
  16. I just want chaos. One of the coaches says they want to start at 141, the other declines, they go to the coin flip and it's won by the coach wanting to start at 141. If we are going to get a nothing burger, we might as well get the bittersweet satisfaction of the wrestling world getting *extra* riled up for 80 minutes in anticipation.
  17. Is he transferring to the same place Blue Dragons Jr getting his PhD? Great training partners!
  18. The flying squirrel is alive and well at :31!!!
