NCAA Points Projection: The Burpee Edition
Tigerfan replied to Wrestleknownothing's topic in College Wrestling
I’m not at all sure these are “unintended” consequences. Seems like they explicitly stated that one of the reasons they made the switch from historical data-driven allocations to the new allocation/seeding model was to spread the limited spots to include more non traditional wrestling conferences, ostensibly to grow the sport on a national level beyond Big10/12 territory. That necessarily correlates with keeping conference tournaments relevant, but specifically conferences other than the Big10/12. Simply put, they hoped some talent would spread out of the Midwest schools. How successful that design has been is a question better suited to Wrestleknownothing. -
Matt Egeland.

Yes, me too. The choo choo place was a great burger place right off the plaza.

I feel like you’re cheating, or have access to super secret data that informs your choices. Hardly a level playing field. On a more personal note, your relative lack of confidence in KOT is a trigger. Please provide a warning prior to posting any similar hate speech. If you’d like to reply, I’ll be in my safe space.

13 of the first 17 bouts (including pigtail) the lower seed could win and I wouldn’t be surprised.

Yep. But one thing I have learned about Rocky is he is a tournament guy. Duals not so much. Kinda the opposite of Surtin.
-
I feel bad for Brooks. He’ll get Elam in the 1/8. That’s a bad draw!
-
I really like Mocco’s draw to AA. If he shows up. He definitely looked off at B12.
-
Quality wins are wins over other opponents who are in the field. I assume that’s before the at-large berths are awarded, but not sure.
-
I didn’t know that, not my sources.
-
I never said a word about my importance or lack thereof. Stop projecting. Clearly YOU associate athletic department administrators as important, and thus those in their orbit somehow absorb some of that importance (assigned by you). My sources are very credible, how important they are is a different matter. And I’m not important simply by knowing them. Are we done with personal attacks yet?
-
I’m not at liberty to get more specific. I wouldn’t say it if it weren’t credible.

Elam is ranked 9/10. He’s something close to 10-8 lifetime vs the guys ranked ahead of him. I can believe Glazier is r12 material at best, but breaking into the top 8 is a tall order. 5th, nah.
-
Actually, I am.
-
Are any of the other 3 D1 in anything else? Regardless, they are a far cry from B10/B12 caliber schools (athletically). Also, those were in the past. The whole subject of this thread is the how significantly different the future will be in these changing landscapes. Maybe I should have said no formerly known as a Power 5 conference schools will ever add women’s wrestling.

Aspects of freestyle that are realistic to implement
Tigerfan replied to 1032004's topic in College Wrestling
Criteria could be cool, but folk style OT seems pretty dialed in at this point. Not sure there’s enough reason for this change. Push out is technically clear cut, but would result in a ton of reviews. Leaning no on this one. No headgear in matches. Totally agree on this one. Medical exemption for active ear injuries, of course. Headgear is pulled, pushed, twisted, tweaked, etc. far too often. These are adults who can make their own decisions regarding practice, but they just get in the way during matches. Are ankle bands really an issue? Seems like they rarely cause any problems. No change. -
No way he finishes that high. Elam is ranked outside the top 8, and he’s a 3xAA (5,4,3). There are at least 8 guys demonstrably better than him. I suppose anything could happen, but that would truly shock me.

There are so many things happening in college sports I’m having trouble distilling it all into how NCAA D1 wrestling will be impacted. Big10 and SEC will withdraw from NCAA and start their own organization, ostensibly to benefit FB/BB almost exclusively. NIL money is basically robbing Peter to pay Paul, since those donations used to go to the schools to help fund Oly sports, offsetting the costs of competitive FB/BB programs. Declining enrollments and ever escalating costs will ultimately force almost all schools to cut Oly sports in order to compete in the FB/BB arms race. PSU, Iowa, Michigan, and maybe a few others have the self-funding to carry on, but no one else will have the cash to compete with them. Another D1 school adding women’s wrestling ain’t happening. “Total pipedream”. D1 wrestling is a dead man walking. I give it 5 years. Enjoy every bit we have left, because winter is coming. It should be noted that my understanding of the situation comes mostly from well-connected people who are the opposite of reactionary in their professional capacities. Is that about the gist of it? Will non-school affiliated club teams take over? Will anyone care? Attendance at freestyle events is dismal. Will that change? Enquiring minds want to know.

Didnt SHP used to run the formula and tell us the allocations a day or two prior in years past? Seems like allocations we’re never a mystery for long thanks to his efforts. He used to link his blog weekly. Does he still update that?
-
Oh for crying out loud, can you please stop whining? PSU fans should just shut up and enjoy their newly purchased dominance and grow some thicker skin. Take a lesson from the Marines, who long ago got used to the jealous sniping of inferior organizations don’t let the critics/jokes affect their performance and pride. When you’re #1, others will try to minimize your accomplishments. Get used to it already.

It's time: Predict the 2024 125 pound NCAA champ

Just overly precautionary, I suspect. Mizzou protects injury reports like Fort Knox. The neck doesn’t seem to affect his wrestling like a knee/shoulder/etc. would. -

I think a healthy Surtin is bad for anyone seeing him for the first time this year. He’s way more offensive than years past, mostly due to health - according to Coach Smith. Spratley and Flynn are potential landmines, but he’ll surprise the BIG10 dudes as well as Stanich, Noto, etc. As someone said, B12’s will clarify things regarding Figs, Volk, Poulin, Flynn, Surtin, etc. In short, it’s still a mess.
