Robbie Howard out with injury, Gary Steen is Penn State's 125
Thumper replied to VakAttack's topic in College Wrestling
And if Steen gets injured? -
Stanford's nine weight class champions at the 2022 Menlo Open tournament yesterday 125 lbs - True Freshman Nico Provo (4-0) 133 lbs - RS Junior Jackson DiSario (5-0) 149 lbs - RS Junior Jaden Abas (4-0) 157 lbs - True Freshman Daniel Cardenas (5-0) 165 lbs - RS Senior Shane Griffith (4-0) 174 lbs - RS Senior Tyler Eischens (4-0) 184 lbs - True Freshman Brook Byers (4-0) 197 lbs - Junior Nik Stemmet (4-0) 285 lbs - Senior Seamus O'Malley (4-0) Other Stanford wrestlers who placed at the 2022 Menlo Open were the following: 2nd place finishers for Stanford: 157 lbs - Junior - Charlie Darracott 165 lbs - True Freshman - Hunter Garvin 184 lbs - True Freshman - Jack Darrah 3rd place finishers for Stanford: 141 lbs - Junior Jason Miranda 184 lbs - Senior Nikolas Addison 4th place finishers for Stanford: 285 lbs - Junior Peter Ming (wrestled unattached) So 16 of the 22 Stanford wrestlers who competed yesterday at the Menlo Open placed at that tournament. I have to wonder if any of these three True Freshman who took first place in their weight class yesterday are going to be in the starting lineup this season, i.e., Nico Provo at 125 lbs (I'd have to think YES in his case), Daniel Cardenas at 157 lbs and Brook Byers at 184 lbs.

Interesting. IF he had suffered a high grade pectoral muscle tear it seems highly unlikely that he would be out in public walking around unless he was on major pain medications. And even then it would be painful. If you've ever suffered a pectoral muscle tear you know how very painful that injury is. It's worse than broken ribs or pleurisy IMO (yes - I've had all three). Either that or he has a remarkable pain threshold. The source of this - as far as I know - was on Pat Mineo's twitter page (The Wrestling Room). Or at least that's where I first saw this being mentioned. https://twitter.com/MrPatMineo/status/1587432440456482817

Stanford wins nine of the ten weight classes. The only weight class they didn't win was 141 lbs where the two finalists were both from CS Bakersfield. Stanford had three weight classes (157, 165 & 184) where both of the finalists were from Stanford.
-
Maybe he was still sleeping during that match.
-
Looks like Lajoie lost in SV OT to a RS Freshman from CS Bakersfield who went 5-4 last season at 141 lbs (as a True FR) in his 2nd Championship round match.
-
Stanford's Nico Provo (125 lbs) opens his college career with a first period win by FALL.
-
And that first match is underway
-
First match is Stanford's Jackson DiSario vs. Michael Torres of Menlo College
-
Apparently so. I didn't know that either. Transferred from Nebraska. But WrestleStat has him listed on their CSUB roster so somebody was aware of it.
-
The four Stanford wrestlers who are not competing today at the Menlo Open are Luciano Arroyo (SR) 141 lbs, Kyle Rowan (JR) 133 lbs, Sam Beckett (FR) 165 lbs and Luke Duthie (FR) 174 lbs.
-
According to the brackets for the Menlo Open Stanford's heavyweight, Peter Ming, is competing unattached.
-
Hunter Garvin (FR) is also competing for Stanford at the Menlo Open (at 165 lbs)
-
And the brackets for the Menlo Open have just been released (can be seen via TrackWrestling)
-
Twenty-two of the twenty-six members of the Stanford wrestling team are listed as entrants for the 2022 Menlo Open tournament today. 125 lbs - Nico Provo (FR) and Suhas Chundi (JR) 133 lbs - Jackson DiSario (SR) and Wyatt Richter (FR) Richter is listed on the Stanford roster and Wrestlestat at 125 lbs 141 lbs - Jason Miranda (JR) and Chayse Lajoie (FR) 149 lbs - Jaden Abas (RS JR) and Elijah Cleaver (JR) 157 lbs - Charlie Darracott (JR) and Dawson Sihavong (SR) and Anthony Williams (Grad Student) and Daniel Cardenas (FR) 165 lbs - Shane Griffith (RS SR) and Fabian Santillan (SR) - Santillan is listed on Stanford's roster at 149 lbs 174 lbs - Tyler Eischens (RS SR) 184 lbs - Nick Addison (SR) and Brook Byers (FR) and Jack Darrah (FR) 197 lbs - Nik Stemmet (JR) 285 lbs - Peter Ming (JR) and Seamus O'Malley (SR)

Well, WrestleStat's projection of this being a blowout win for Cal Poly seems on track so far. CP has won the first four matches, two wins by FALL and two by DEC. CP leads 18-0 after the first four matches. True Freshman Zeth Romney - in place of Lawrence Saenz - got one of the two wins by Fall at 141 lbs
-
Cal Poly, who WrestleStat projects to be the 2nd best team in the PAC 12 this season (behind ASU), is @ Cal Baptist today at 1 p.m. PT. WrestleStat projects this to be a 41-0 blowout by Cal Poly. But I would imagine that Ramos would have to beat out the guy(s) who are already at 157 lbs, i.e., vs. Wilner. BTW Wilner is listed on the ASU roster at 165 lbs and he competed last season at 165 lbs as well. Yet he competed last night at 157 lbs. Maybe Wilner and Ramos wrestle-off and maybe Ramos stays at 149 lbs and is the backup to Parco. Who knows?
-
During last night's Arizona State Intra-squad matches the only real "match", IMO, was the one between Ramos and Parco at 149 lbs. Or at least the only real match that I saw. I only watched the matches thru Negron's match as the last few matches didn't see to be of much interest. I have to say I was impressed by Ramos. I fully expected Parco to dominate in that match but I saw a very competitive and evenly balanced match between those two last night. I have to wonder tho - was that match the one where the loser of that match (Ramos) would have to bump up to 157 lbs to replace Teemer? If it was then I think Ramos is the right guy to go up to 157 lbs. I watched the 157 lbs match between Wilner and Kilic and was not overly impressed by what I saw there. So I'm thinking the ASU lineup will be: 125 - Courtney (backed up by Figueroa) 133 - McGee 141 - Vasquez 149 - Parco 157 - Ramos 165 - Negron 174 - Valencia 184 - Montalvo 197 - Norfleet 285 - Schultz I suppose we will find out if that's correct one week from today when ASU takes on Rutgers.
-
I can't disagree with your comments here. ASU embarrasses themselves every year with these so-called Intra-squad matches. BUT..................it is better than nothing at all. Not by much...........but by a little.
-
So Meissner is going to wrestle at both 184 lbs and at 197 lbs???
-
Speaking of Arizona State I thought I would put together a lineup for ASU (in reverse weight class order) comparing what is listed for ASU on the ASU wrestling team roster to what is listed for ASU on WrestleStat.
