As Austin the Great DesantFlo would say, light work this year!

there was a good crossfit related youtube video about a doctor telling people he helps get all the crossfitters numbers to pass. They are constantly cycling the hormone levels...if crossfit can do it couldn't wrestlers?

125s that are capable of winning a title
jmoney replied to flyingcement's topic in College Wrestling
I'll pick: 1) Noto 2) Barnett 3)Ramos 4)Camacho 5)Figueroa 6) Provo 7) Ungar Ayala -
In Wreslestat rankings 7 of the top 20 are Freshman. No other weight class has that dominant a freshman class this year. I admittedly was assuming pulling from the experience of high school 103-106 pounders being overpopulated by younger guys and it does appear to be the case at this weight class too. Some weight classes (I believe 2) have 0 freshman in the top 20. My point was that him dominating 125 isn’t as impressive to me as him dominating 133/141. That said, at 125 I can’t think of a guy as dominant who I’ve ever seen.

Lee had some good battles with Rivera. Rivera moving up and dominating impressed me. Rivera wrestled some weak opposition senior year but annhilated opponents. One knock I'll make against Lee is the lightest weight is full of Fresh/Soph. Also Lee did not destroy people in NCAA finals. When Lee met a game opponent at his level the matches were close. If Suriano hadn't bumped up, Lee-Suriano could have been a close battle for years. I think in some ways the lack of a dominant #2 made Lee appear better. Lee beating Tomasello in 2 of 3 meetings is so impressive for Lee. It is one of his finest achievements and places him very highly on the list.

I could honestly see Gilman make Lee cry

Spencer Lee called him "nobody" or "some guy" the first year he All Americaned. He then implied Cardinale was below him enough that he won't mention his name. His karma was standing right next to Cardinale on the all american podium- dethroned. It reminded me how Byrd told Cannon "you're nobody" after big 10s 2 years ago, and then Byrd-Cannon finishing 5-7 back to back years on the podium. They've seemingly mended their relationship now that an influx of 133 talent left them both off the podium this year, and it appears Byrd will never lose to Cannon.

I like 7 minute Nap Club! I also like Droppin Deuce on You Club, Droppin a Deuce for the W Club

Gilman is tough as nails and has battled adversity to get where he is; he at least tasted losing on the big stage regularly.

I'm looking for names for this select crew of wrestlers who at least made the round of 12 and didn't score points. Other Proposals are: Low Expectations Club, Club Keep It Close, Eek It Out Club, Cardiac Kids Club. Competition wrestled, injury status, # of wins, and Bonus points for pin wins were factors. Any other nominees? Points Scored per scored match, Points Scored, Matches Scored, (Wins) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) 1.20 Hillger 6 / 5 (3) 2) 1.75 Matthews: 7 / 4 (2) 3) 2.60 Schuyler 13 / 5 (3) 4) 3.00 Munoz 12 / 4 (3) 5) 3.57 Brands 25 / 7 (5) 6) 3.33 Lewis: 20 / 6 (4) 7) 3.33 Ventresca 20 / 6 (4) 8 ) 3.33 L. thanks for the reminder, I was going to make a myopic post

It looked both like 1) 125 was the wrong weight for Vito and 2) he leveled up more this year than RBY impressively did between his Fresh and Junior Year
-
If I recall correctly he defeated some monsters every round his freshman year. Huge upsets announcers were shocked or at least mesmerized he was defeating guys in quarterfinals.

On another post I boldly predicted Arujau to post first. Arujau was wrestling lights out and RBY was wrestling like Nelson Brands (I kid) not trying to rack up points. I thought about Arujau length and saw it being a problem for RBY. On Arujau I’d have needed 1.4 : 1. On the Lee one I prolly would have needed 70 : 1. And then for Brands let’s say 15 : 1 and Murin 5 : 1. That makes around 7500 :1 for that parlay if my mental math is around right.

Versus Parco, Gomez was dominating the aggresion game thru the 2nd, leading and may have even had riding time. He took sloppy shot end of 2nd period, Parco ended period on top and everything went downhill. He could have maybe stalled to a victory in the 3rd.
-
Man what would the odds have been on a Murin AA, Brands AA, Lee doesn't take 1st parlay bet back when Millner was still in Murin's bracket? They would have had to be around 2000 to 1 or better for me to even consider placing a bet.
-
If Malik had wrestled to the Round of 12 with no round by round bonus what would OSU final place be in the tourney?
-
I’m happy for Murin to All American. Kid worked so dang hard. Brands was impressive but I’m not a fan. Warner again impresses in a tough division ! He is solid on the backside of the bracket. I thought Woods wrestled a bit tentative but Alirez wrestled lights out. Woods honestly wrestled so tough this year he reminded me of Metcalf, and I’m shocked he lost the finals. I underestimated Alirez top wrestling. But I think the big stage freaked Woods a little.

I regrettably watched way too many opening round and second round matches so I had to skip the quarterfinals and all consolations ! I had to jump to the semis before everyone could tell me every surprise under the sun haha. I also watched a lot with zero sound cuz you could hear the upsets from the announcer. I appreciate all the extra matches but I would really like for a broadcast to show 4 to 6 mats at once and be able to watch for the good ones and see commentary. The main broadcast jumps around way too often and matcast is tough to watch. 6 would be perfect for the first two rounds. Still for $10 espn subscription I shouldn’t even be typing this haha

Cornell with 2 4xers Before PSU/Iowa have 1
jmoney replied to Doublehalf's topic in College Wrestling
Dunning-Kruger is all around us. -
I gave props a month ago to AOC for earning AA in a tough weight class when he was medically broken last year. People said his accomplishment was meaningless cuz Spencer Lee won it all broken. What say you all about AOC now? Did Spencer Lee just not win it all or is an injury to blame? It seems Iowa is saying an injury is to blame but excuses are for wusses when it works in your favor, am I right ?

You nailed your pick, Sloan has been wrestling lights out in a loaded bracket !

Stalling this year is being called at one third the appropriate rate. Some of these guys are just laying on the mat, not working on top, or dancing in neutral. Was there a rule change this year ?
