  1. The academic requirements there are insane. One time I was out partying I ran into some wrestlers from the top wrestling private school in the area in that era and we had both had several drinks and they said "I thought Iwas a good student then I came here. It's so hard and I barely met the requirements and it's killing me." I'm not surprised, one year I got a 99 in STATS and received a B+. One semester I did everything possible to get A's and I got 4 A-'s. One year I took the easiest Sociology class, wrote a 16 page essay for the final exam in one hour and got an A-. That school is hard and grade deflates like crazy. One quarter as an experiment I stayed in every Friday night and I got an A in Physics. It's what's required to get an A in a course. That may be the only A I got in a science course there. The experiment was over and I never stayed inside every week on a Friday again.
  2. I would be shocked if Barnett doesn't earn AA this year. He will have several tests in February to prove himself, including Ayala, Ramos and McKee. I think he's like 2-4 against McKee and 1-0 against Ayala. In 2022, Barnett defeated Camacho and Camacho defeated Ayala at NCAA. McKee had been dominating them both but now Ayala has surpassed McKee. Can Ayala surpass Barnett? Big implications if he has done it...
  3. Volk at 125 has wrestled Smith x2, Ayala, Spratley, Figueroa, McCrone, Surtin, Provo, Kaylor, Molton x2 and DeAugustino forfeited to him. Not sure another 125 has that big a resume. 7-4 in those matches. He will be dangerous at NCAAs. Last year he wrecked DeAugustino early in the bracket...
  4. After watching the 2 matches mentioned here, the officiating was strange. It seems the refs would benefit from counting a stall warning aloud to the tired wrestler. If the hands are on him he gets a 4 or 5 count to get to his feet and if they're not he gets a 2-3 count. There seemed to be a real gray area between stalling, escapes, releases and takedowns in both matches. I'll also submit Gilman vs Lizak and this great reminder of Iowa Style.
  5. I feel like they should have figured this out before the season. Unless they felt the scoring system for teams-tourneys was more of a sacrosanct tradition. Does anyone know how long the 8 point MD and 15 point TF has been around for ?
  6. J.Jaggers vs Mendes in National Finals 2008- the heart Jaggers showed is a major reason I still watch college wrestling today. It changed me from a “catch some matches every few years” guy to a legit college fan.
  7. McKee shows that Caleb Mr Appalachian State Williams has no business in the natty champ conversation whatsoever...Welcome to the Big 10, son!
  8. Let's see if Ramos brings the mental toughness. Ayala is mentally much stronger but I think Ramos's peak ability is superior.
  9. We can keep it friendly! $5 for $25 or $10 for $50.
  10. You would wager $1 for every $5 of mine. 1 person from that 5 member list I named would have to win for you to win. Someone else would have to win for me to win.
  11. Lewan has been hurt for awhile too. It would be bold to put him to the slaughter at Penn State.
  12. Great wrestler...he can escape on bottom but I still feel like he relies on the takedown game to win his matches entirely. I think he struggles if he's held to the mat or reaches a great defensive wrestler. He also looks like he's a bit skinny for the weight.
  13. Nice list, if you're serious about this I'll give you 5 to 1 odds on the bundle of Surtin, Peterson, McKee, Kaylor, Smith.

  15. I think the champ will come from the list of- Ramos, Stanich, Noto, Figueroa, Barnett, Flynn- in that order, with a % likelihood of 30, 25, 20, 10, 9, 6, respectively. Food for thought, Stanich broke a 63 match win streak by D3 national champ/4th year wrestler Joziah Fry up with a smooth 11-4 victory. Fry, for his part, defeated backup 4th year wrestler Seymour of Lehigh 5-4. Seymour beat Shawver and Medley at Midlands last year but does not have many wins to speak of this year.
  16. Sotelo (Harvard) over Noto with a late 3 point near fall. Noto looked starched losing 11-8. Sotelo was 0 for 2 BBQ last year at Nationals and has 6 losses, including one to Ramos in SV.
  17. This performance by Nebraska reminded me a little of Chad Red's career- a lot of potential, but ended short of expectations.

    Ragusin

Nice- he looked great in the maryland match, and announcers said he has practiced his top wrestling extensively. Excited for BIG 10 season!

    Ragusin

Man I watched Shawver annhilate the Purdue Macatangay guy- if you want to see a guy just dominate the last period of a match and abuse someone with endurance-style superiority watch that third period. I hadn't realized Ragusin defeated him. What a W!

    Ragusin

I'm a big fan of Ragusin and think he should earn All-American honors with Cannon/Byrd/Mendez out the picture. 133 was absolutely brutal last year and still looks competitive again.
  21. They really are. I’ve become as big a fan of NC State vs V Tech as I am of Iowa vs Iowa State and Iowa vs Ok State in years past. I was beginning to thing OK State was a goner. I used to find their team so exciting to follow. This is a step in the right direction.
  22. Cheers to OK State on the W. I was worried that the universe of good teams had shrunk to 5.
