  1. What an incredible coincidence that all of these lingering injuries flared up during the Iowa State dual! But Foca, who has something to gain from a Feldcamp win looked the best he's looked at 184!
  2. Yes, my training partner was grandfathered in.
  3. Yeah... Wikipedia far from the best source of info. Maybe true, but I wouldn't count on it. I was wrestling in the D2 East Region at that time, and no one referred to it as the "Haselrig rule" or even said it was about Haselrig. And we had a qualifier.
  4. How many did Ron Wright from Sacred Heart choke out?
  5. Hobart was a great D3 lax program. St. Lawrence and Union are D3 schools who have competed and won at the D1 level. Has RPI ever won a hockey title? One of my training partners was amongst the last lower division guys to qualify for D1, so at the time it seemed like something that happened all the time in college sports. That may have been why I thought that. (and Haselrig was in our conference)
  6. ESPN with D1 national finals on tape delay with entire periods of matches cut out. Maybe even entire matches?
  7. I had heard that the now- deceased "no reaction time from rear standing" had something to do with a Montell Marion match. Anyone have any details. The death of this rule could be the "Max Dean" because his match vs. Beard was when people started getting upset about the rule.
  8. I agree that it was a great event and I even coached a team in it.
  9. I think this was an "all-sports thing." I'd be curious if it was allowed in other individual sports. I thought it was allowed in lacrosse, but apparently not.
  10. Very true. When I was a senior in high school, I had a wrestling match against a kid that I later learned was a national level judoka. (there were some very good judo players in my area) I think he tried the sport for about a month. Unfortunately the month he tried it, I ended up up being launched and knocked out cold. I had to be semi-carried to my bench. I had no idea where I was... actually I KNEW EXACTLY where I was... but I was wrong. My coach loved me and was a great coach and person. He had me wrestle the next dual, 90 minutes later. I lost to some shmuck 7-6. My coach was a d2 college all-America nose tackle and a d2 national qualifier. He was old school, and we didn't know any better. This was almost 40 years ago. I don't remember any lasting side effects. I still qualified for MENSA lol. I ended up having a life changing senior year, that was great for me as a person, a wrestler, a student. Many of the best things in my life started with my senior year of high school wrestling. If I were a kid today, I would have been held out for the season and wouldn't have had experienced the tremendous growth that I got from that senior campaign (despite an 0-2 start).
  11. If you were trying to be humorous, maybe you could include an emoji or an /s/? Context and tone often don't come through on message boards.
  12. I would have been all in to keep wrestling if I were in his shoes. That's why the NFL, NHL, MMA, Hockey etc. all have ways to pull the concussed athlete from competition. Don't leave it up to him/her or the coaches.
  13. There is a lot of info out there. Some symptoms last for over a year. Look what happens to most fighter's careers after they get knocked out for the first time. And then there's CTE. not to mention some other stuff. Surely you're aware?
  14. Much easier to get concussed after the first one. The more you have the easier you get them.
  15. NLWC coaches let a clearly concussed Taylor wrestle in World semis and finals. Of course Taylor wanted to go, and he's an adult, but he wouldn't have been allowed to continue in the NFL. In fact, he would have been done even in boxing or MMA.
  16. It is a thing! When I was coaching (d2/d3 college and high school) and had a Dad-bod, athletes who looked like statues of Greek gods and/or could lift a ton of weight would comment on how strong I was. And I didn't even feel particularly powerful for most of my college career (and was very average).
  17. Yep. Wrestling with no ACLs has nothing to do with toughness or ability to handle adversity...
