  1. Exactly, that's why I was a bit confused of his emphasis on "PERMANENT," since even if it was only a 1 year suspension, he'd be done.
  2. There was some chatter on HR awhile back that the penalties could involve not ever even being allowed to coach in the NCAA. Could that be what he's alluding to with saying "PERMANENTLY banned"?
  3. Well to play devils advocate what year did gambling become legal in Iowa and have the NCAA rules changed the past few years at all?
  4. I think missing the meeting can be forgiven, but he should still know the rules. I’d agree it should be mostly on him, but the fact that his dad & uncle are the coaches is certainly not a great look for them.
  5. Nelson is also in his 6th year, so he’s what, 24? Not like you can really use the “dumb kid” excuse (for either the gambling or this tweet)
  6. 6 out of 10 isn’t consistent. Didn’t care enough to look up the prior years for the other ones
  7. Well in the most recent season, two of them did not... And the one that did seemingly hasn't for 4 of the past 10 years.
  8. The punishment does bring up an interesting point. Because some would argue if he wasn't suspended for the postseason, then it's hardly a punishment at all. We need a dual championship, so that he could have been suspended for that but not the individual tournament.
  9. Not saying they suck, but I'm guessing wrestling is by far their best sport. A bit dated (2018), but here was an interesting article I found to confirm that suspicion, particularly this line: "Cornell wrestling is perhaps the best individual team in the entire study" https://www.thedp.com/article/2018/08/ivy-league-athletics-ten-year-update-brown-columbia-cornell-dartmouth-harvard-penn-princeton-yale-overall-rankings
  10. So I see Cornell lacrosse made the NCAA finals in 2022, but they didn't even make the 17-team NCAA tournament in 2012, 2016, 2017 & 2019
  11. I'm more surprised that he has a father/uncle as a coach and was stupid enough to tweet that out, geez. Does this count as consenting to have his name released? Will we actually see a statement from Iowa naming him?
  12. Last rankings I see for last season: men's ice hockey: 19th (out of 64 teams) women's ice hockey: 12th (out of 44 teams) men's lacrosse: 10th doesn't look like squash is actually an NCAA-sponsored sport
  13. For sure. No reason UNC can't be just as good if not better than NC State, or Cornell for that matter. I mean heck are there any other sports where Cornell is consistently top 10 in the country? They were mostly good because of Koll (I know he mentioned in his Flo interview that in his first year they lost to Ithaca college), and Grey is continuing it.
  14. Here is one video I’ve shown to some people in the past where Parsons and I presume another PSU football player get dominated by some wrestlers in the “lumberjack circuit” And yes Jimmy, I know Parsons is going to make more money than any of these guys can dream of. Although I guess if Bo is as good in the UFC as some think he could certainly make more than many NFL players.
  15. Widely being considered the best player in the NFL right now, and an actual fan of watching wrestling. I know there was a past thread on here talking about how he stopped wrestling before high school so this may seem counterintuitive, but we need to accept that many guys that actually have NFL potential will stop wrestling to focus on football as they get older. However I believe he has credited wrestling for helping him develop some of the traits that make him so dominant. Anyone have a link to a recent interview/article where he does this? Was hoping to send to a friend :) But you can add him to the list of people in the NFL (Sean McDermott another) praising wrestling as helping develop elite football players. So even if wrestling loses some that truly have NFL or at least D1 football potential where you can’t really blame them, if more coaches and parents see the link between wrestling and football, wrestling could gain more younger participants.
  16. Well 40% of the MFS champs came from the NCAA, so seems pretty good.
  17. Why will it be more challenging at UNC than Cornell or Stanford? It’s a good academic school but easier to get into than those 2, with a great campus in a cool city with warm weather
  18. I would venture a guess that it’s pretty rare for someone to get over even like 3 minutes of riding time and not score any nearfall. Folkstyle definitely isn’t perfect though, and I’d agree that stalling on top is one area for improvement. And hopefully it is improved with the new rule.
  19. Maybe. I think 57 at least just shows how little separation there is in the whole world. I mean Richards beat Gilman AND Suriano, it’s not like he “only had to train to beat 1 guy.” And Micic won the whole thing despite of course being no guarantee to even have won the US spot
  20. Yes I know he’s downstairs drilling, but is Suriano still wrestling?
  21. Or maybe Vito redshirts this year but finishes up his undergrad then does grad school at Binghamton so he can still train at Spartan? I know he says he doesn’t want to stay in school but I assume he’s more referring to undergrad Mostly joking, I know this isn’t going to happen
  22. If Fix is at the same weight as Vito, Brooks and Starocci are higher confidence for me in my opinion, and yes I know Vito majored Fix last year. I think Vito wrestles 133 but doesn’t get too big
  23. Except in this case the argument is they could have not allowed him to wrestle. Which is true.
