  1. I saw it suggested that it could be coming from Kelly Ripa/Mark Consuelos. Which I guess makes sense. Speaking of I just noticed that Joaquin wrestled in the OSU dual last year and “only” got teched by Sheets, that’s not too bad.
  2. Are there many brothers out there competing for different countries than the other?
  3. I was gonna say his twitter still says “OU wrestler” but looks like he doesn’t have any activity since the beginning of last season
  4. I think you could make the argument that the crossface was "the hold used to secure the near-fall criterion." But I understand that there can be debate around that and not sure if there is any more clarity somewhere on situations like that.
  5. For the NCAA currently: https://www.ncaapublications.com/productdownloads/WR23.pdf Rule 4, Section 5, Article 2: ...The referee shall not signal the score for a near fall until the hold used to secure the near-fall criterion is completely released. Clark does release the crossface between each score.
  6. If Michigan gets Griffith and Buchanan or Woodley they'd have to be the favorite for #2 right? And they'd win what, maybe 2 matches vs PSU?
  7. Yes it is. Probably missed calls if they happened like you describe? Those aren’t very recent examples…
  8. I do think it’s odd how there is not much emphasis on pinning in freestyle. But pinning is rewarded by ending the match because it’s more difficult. That’s the whole point of the scoring system and why some moves are worth 4 etc. One turn with a leg lace is only worth 2, so it doesn’t seem right that you can score multiple times without letting go of the same move. I mean this is literally a rule in folkstyle (and apparently used to be a rule in freestyle) so it’s not like this is coming out of nowhere.
  9. Except AWA is now sending guys to PSU…or are you suggesting it’s a Trojan Horse operation?
  10. I think the “Iowa style” was perfect for Desanto honestly. I’m not sure it’s possible for him to train too hard
  11. Overall I think freestyle is more exciting, but it’s definitely not perfect: 1) this issue 2) seemingly arbitrary/rotating shot clocks 3) grounded I’m also not crazy about criteria but I understand the arguments for it
  12. Was there a reason they changed it back?
  13. Comparing to a pin is disingenuous, IMO. Can you? Don’t you need a takedown (or reversal) first?
  14. I don’t hate the move, I hate that you can score 18 points with one move.
  15. What would be the harm in making a rule where you must break a hold in order to score more than once from it? I believe this may have even been a rule in FS at one point?
  16. I don't recall if he ever said he thought he could have wrestled at NCAA's that year. But in addition to other factors unrelated to the injury, he said they wanted him to get surgery and he did not, which he didn't. Also keep in mind they initially restarted the Picc match even though he could barely walk...
  17. Yep. It’s possible Iowa might have an issue with guys wearing down a bit by the end of the season, but for one that wasn’t Lee’s problem. And PSU has had no shortage of guys with “traditional” injuries
  18. Yeah Cael probably would have sent him to the same witch doctor in California that cured Gilman’s foot
  19. Yeah, off-season. But I’m being serious. I don’t think I had this opinion until his barstool interview then his dad’s yesterday
  20. ...but I do think he would've been better off at PSU in general. The reason: in addition to the injuries, it seems the pressure of being the guy that was supposed to "save" Iowa wrestling has gotten to him (which is a lot of pressure!). At PSU he would've been just another of their national champs and wouldn't have had to have the spotlight mostly to himself, which he has now admitted he doesn't want. I mean the dude is 24 years old and his dad is giving interviews for him...
  21. I guess. I do understand Mesenbrink saying something like he liked that there were other guys on the team that also had a strong faith so he thought he would enjoy hanging out with them. But saying God told me to go to Penn State is a little cringey IMO
