  1. Is this Gilcher related to the one at Indiana?
  2. So the guy that de-committed from a different school and it seems has not even taken a class at Iowa yet wants loyalty?
  3. Well initially Jimmy said it was "fake news," I guess it's increased to "nothingburger."
  4. “Most taxpayers,” yes. But isn’t it mostly the rich that are itemizing these days, and thus would also be the people more likely to be making large donations to NIL collectives?
  5. not youtube but the Henry Cejudo audio documentary on Wrestling Changed My Life is good too
  6. I was surprised Brooks and Starocci didn't. They need to get away from Taylor and Dake. /JimmyC post
  7. Well yeah it seems like Michigan could be a big player in the transfer market for the foreseeable future. But the Covid year seems to have added guys to the portal in the first place that may not have been in there otherwise.
  8. Honestly wasn’t there chatter that PSU was being more strict with NIL than a lot of other schools initially? But I think that changed. And wasn’t there also a famous thread on HR several years back where someone emailed a whole bunch of compliance directors and claimed Iowa was the only one that responded?
  9. Well they were mostly right according to what he also said in that interview
  10. You’re right, O’Toole isn’t very good I can’t believe he keeps winning 165. O’Toole of course wasn’t in the bracket when Griffith won it, and of the 3 other guys that finished ahead of him this year, 2 of them weren’t in the bracket last year
  11. Griffith should AA easy at 174, and I’d probably take him over anyone but Starocci.
  12. The Northwestern thing seems to be driven more by the free Covid year. I wonder if we’ll see a little less transfers in wrestling after everyone with the extra year is gone.
  13. I forget the exact wording now, but in the barstool interview he said he was annoyed how people commented about him “only winning 8-0.” What was he talking about? His knee? Conditioning?
  14. Didn’t he literally admit he didn’t like the spotlight? And his dad gave a “vague statement” anyway…
  15. A statue is dumb, but it can probably be considered that he sacrificed at least his chances at this year’s world team for a chance to win back to back team titles. I wouldn't really say he sacrificed anything for individual titles, as I wouldn’t fault him for wrestling the NCAA season in general, but the team implications certainly seemed to impact his decisions WHEN to wrestle or rehab. Even Pyles called this out. For example, if Iowa didn’t think they could win the title in 2022, Spencer probably gets surgery right after the 2021 season.
  16. I know NIL isn’t supposed to be dependent on the school you attend, but with the money being thrown around I don’t see how the people offering that don’t somehow make it so it is.
  17. Pretty much this. I think a less grumpy (and better dressed) Belichick isn’t a bad comparison. Except Cael has proven it wasn’t just one guy that helped make him great.
  18. Blanc has only been there 4 years (3 tournaments), and technically you can count on zero hands how many lightweights NDSU has had finish in the top 8. They did have Cam Sykora get “2nd team” in 2020. But you can count on 2 fingers how many AA’s they’ve had at all since 2016, and it was Franek and Caliendo this year at 157 and 165. I would bet Blanc works with them, although he does look tiny.
  19. This one just came out a couple weeks ago apparently…not as much wrestling talk, mostly peanut butter
  20. I am by no means a HS scouting expert but I was literally just typing up something similar. Would you put Bouzakis potentially in the same boat? In the limited I saw of him in HS I thought similarly.
  21. Yes, and here are the rest of the favorites: 125: Ayala 133: Teske 141: Woods 149: Siebrecht 165: Kennedy 174: Brands 184: Assad 197: Glazier or whoever Iowa gets from the portal 285: Cassioppi
  22. Was just going to post this. Interestingly this was Woodley’s first twitter post since November 2022
  23. I don't really see how offering NIL money to transfers (if even true of course) qualifies as "helicopter parenting"... How can it be "somewhat worse," but within the rules? LOL. It's nowhere near as bad as the Varsity Blues stuff, which clearly was not within the rules. And honestly I doubt the kid was like "can you get Michigan a 2nd place trophy as my birthday present this year?" They're likely just doing it on their own because they want to support the team. But yes, marginal walk-on athletes with rich parents could be highly sought after commodities. I'd argue they already were in order to solicit donations for the school anyway though. But sure with NIL there is added incentive.
