Sure..... but you used a bad example... that only applies to Ivies...Koll was only getting a redshirt year like every other school including Iowa. Not really getting an advantage there - more of a level playing field with the rest of the country. You know that.
"Rich getting richer" means that it will get even worse than it was before. That's what the suffix "er" means.... more. There is no doubt that a few teams have dominated over the years, which has been discussed on this board many times. The portal/NIL era has undoubtedly given those same teams an even greater advantage because of the money they have to get free-agents to fill weak weights. I'm fine with Koll not winning pac-12 titles - probably means my team has a good chance to win it. Regardless, he brought up good points.... and bad points- like winning a team trophy in 2 years. Not sure that's happening.
Are NIL deals one year deals? For some reason that's what I was thinking they were when connected to a booster at a school. Some pros and cons either way. Obviously guys that have NIL deals that are more national and outside the university boosters can do that (as well as guys on the senior level).
Salted with some truth as well. Do you really think that the rich aren’t getting richer and able to buy their way to trophy contention every year? Despite the way Koll comes off he’s speaking what most wrestling fans know to be true.
What about it? Koll's reference was clearly to what has happened this off-season with the portal and the teams most active in paying out NIL money - not in recruiting.
The problem is that the kids getting the scholarships are the mid-tier kids whereas the top elite kids are getting NIL to cover expenses. It's just another way of getting extra scholarships.
IMO guys from the former school who followed the coach that recruited them is a different story than paying out guys in NIL deals to transfer. I wouldn't blame someone for following the coach that recruited them ... buying a team with NIL is different.
Not sure, but according to the article they have things in place to help keep kids around. I imagine it’s definitely harder to transfer into Stanford than other places.
“ I don’t need to dip into the portal because we won’t lose guys,” Koll said. “I’m building a team, not buying a team like the Penn State, Iowa, and Michigan models.”
My reference is not to grasping it with the hand but hooking it with the leg and sitting on it. This will eliminate one aspect of stalling. Grasping the ankle now goes beyond the hand grabbing the ankle. Watch much college wrestling this past season?
From a Feb 2014 ESPN article about grayshirting:
“Nobody really remembers when it first began. Some coaches say it's been around forever, while others say it started to catch on only over the past 10 years. ”
Giving credit to the term “gray shirt” to Mike Grey and changing the spelling would have been a great story.
Cmon now …. Read the article at least. January 08 is as close as you get to 07. If you read the article it’s partly based on the previous season and it’s written under the premise that it’s been going on for awhile.
