Yes, I agree - they will have some budget challenges going into next season, but even that's up in the air with the crazy conference world we live in now. Fundraising has been pretty decent at Oregon State so that will become more of a focus with the affect on the budget. With Bakersfield, you are correct in that the incoming money - or lack of - does not change in that aspect. The concern would be that changing conferences could add to their expenses significantly. If you look at their schedule most of it is contained to the West with tournaments and Pac 12 conference duals. They had the southern scuffle and then wrestled three duals all at the same location in NC - which is smart on their part. Those were the only two significant travel dates. The closest geographical conference would be the B12. With the fact that everything is more expensive now and adding travel costs, Bakersfield has an uphill battle in what was already an uphill battle. One thing they could have going for them in a change, is that I believe there is a clause for new teams entering that they can limit the conference schedule. If that be the case, then they could keep their mostly western schedule. Another question would be if other conferences would take them in - I would hope they would. It's a tough battle to have to completely fund a program. I can't imagine the energy it takes to run the program and self fund it.

Nope. You have to have 16 teams to stay at the D1 FBS level. Oregon state has 16. They cannot drop a sport. They have a large endowment and the university is very supportive of the program. It’s not going anywhere. if a team drops it will be Bakersfield which would be terrible.

Probably the best move at the time. If someone else would have been hired (not Koll) was UNC's condition of hiring to keep Ramos on staff? Seems like they were committed to him no matter the HC hire. Of course, there may have not been talks with anyone else.

If there is no Pac-12, which seems to be the case, the 4 remaining teams will end up in other conferences, just like a lot of schools. I can easily see Oregon State heading to the B12 for wrestling. Little Rock should land somewhere out east which is where they should be anyway. Cal Poly and Bakersfield are the tougher ones. I could also see them being picked up by the B12 as well.... but Bakersfield could be a casualty. They already have to self fund and a move to another conference would be a huge hit to their program financially unless they can find some schedule creativity and raise more money. I would hate to see that happen.

Wondering if UNC made a condition that whoever they hired, Ramos was staying. Seems from the outside UNC covered their bases and it appears had honest conversations with Ramos. Hard to pass up on Koll and his resume.

You pretty much covered every scenario .... he might stay he might not. He might leave next year....maybe in a couple years... He might like working with Koll and he might be slighted...

Yep Ramos staying..... creates an interesting situation. On one hand it does provide a great opportunity for him to continue to hone his skills as a future head coach. On the other hand, he has kind of stuck with not a lot of other options being August right before school starts when this happens. I think it will work out.

I'm not real close to the UVU program, but I am familiar because our valley has sent several kids there to wrestle such as Demetrius Romero. The facilities, in my opinion are not real great. I admit, I haven't been to their facility in a while so I don't know if they have updated some things or have plans to. Knowing many people connected to the program, one thing that is said about Greg is his ability to connect with kids and parents. They know he is going to take care of them beyond wrestling practice. Several parents and coaches have said they love Greg and they feel good leaving their kids in his hands. From the wrestling aspect of the program, the same people have said Jason Chamberlain was an amazing coach. He is no longer at UVU - He was only there a year. I believe he is now working as an Engineer if I heard right. As someone noted, if they go outside the program Adam Hall would be an excellent choice. If they stay in house it's obvious it will be between Lofthouse and Erkin. I am not sure about fully funded either, but I do know (as others have said) that they have full support from the university. The president goes to the matches and she is an avid fan. It doesn't seem like she would let funding get in the way of anything. They usually have a pretty decent schedule as well. This is just my opinion... but having followed the team for a long time, they have had some good rosters but seem to have a lot of injuries. If everyone is healthy this year I think they could have a couple guys make some noise. Drury is probably one of the most overlooked guy that could come in this year and surprise some people. There may be some people on here that have more knowledge than I do about UVU - we used to have wolverine on the last board who was a big fan.

I believe if there is a coaching change, you have 30 days to enter the portal.... but yes, I agree.... it's like when football coaches change before the bowl season then coach their new team they don't know...or walk away from their old team that hasn't finished the season. I hate that stuff. There needs to be regulations for coaching changes - it's definitely not what's best for the program and woudl not hurt coaches to have a window themselves to change schools.

well documented injury issues at UVU...not as many older wrestlers now as they had (i.e. Kjar) previously.

I don't see anyone touching Penn State for a long time. But, I definitely think they should be able to make a run at a top 3 if things fall into place and young kids develop quickly.

I agree... it is interesting. I have no clue about Arizona. One thing I am pretty confident of...if every state did it, it would make for an interesting year of sports.
