  1. I agree. And she needs to sustain this success like few ever have. It’s not a negative comment from me, it’s an observation of the best of the best of the best of the best. When one person has given up three points they are amazing. When another competitor has given up zero points and his closest comp is an in-prime 5 time world/oly champ then yeah I’m going to lean toward the Russian Tank. I hope Elor takes the crown and Snyder takes gold.
  2. *Most dominant American, which is a damn great accomplishment. Gotta pay your dues to be considered global p4p. Sadulaev still holds that p4p crown until proven otherwise. The last time he gave up points was in an instagram practice match. Taylor, Dake, and Snyder can’t say the same. Elor is certainly trending in the p4p ladder though and September will see a big shakeup.
  3. Another medal at non-only weight is a huge advantage. 1) Career bump 2) Weights will begin to clear out which increases likelihood of medaling 3) Didn’t need to bulk/ cut a full year early while still a young growing prodigal kid 4) Bye into OTT semis All are very good reasons to remain at 72 for another year

Nah he’s not any harder than any other person who builds and expects high expectations in order for those individuals to achieve their best self. This thread will devolve into toxicity by competition so let’s focus on the good stuff As an example of Kolat’s leadership: Under his tutelage, Jacob Allen excelled both on and off the mat. A 2020-21 NCAA qualifier, Allen was named a 2022 First-Team CoSIDA Academic All-American. He graduated with a 4.00 grade-point average and was ranked No. 1 in the Class of 2022 in Academic Order of Merit, No. 2 in Military Order of Merit and No. 7 in Overall Order of Merit.
  5. It's how he gets paid as a college athlete in 2023. Nothing more.

Lol Cunningham isn’t giving up training world champions to coach at UNC Kolat would be fine, probably a notch below where UNC is today to be honest. But Ramos is already there. If they do him dirty then he’s probably gone and that recruiting pipeline is going to dry up real quick. I heard he doesn’t mess with double-crossing liars.

UNC just matriculated a two time champ/4x AA. Something tells me that isn’t going to hurt recruiting. Scott left the cupboard in good shape and Ramos is going to do great things. He is the coaching steal of the decade.

You're not talking about some MACtion though, and the "holes" are acceptable because the reality is there are 5 blue bloods (PSU, Iowa, tOSU, OKST, Cornell) and everyone else. VT was 9th and NCState was 10th last year separated by an ultra slim 49-48 margin. UNC was 12th. Pitt was 22nd. I would describe that as a very damn good performance from the ACC and at a macro level that is a very good thing for wrestling.
  9. JB you know who this is, right? The call is coming from inside the house…
  10. Masoumi reminds me of a young Taha Akgul. Significant height advantage, in great shape, fluid technique that makes it look too easy. Carroll reminds me of a young Pillsbury doughboy that just horses people around that aren't as muscularly mature yet. Good thing Uncle John will have him down to 184 by February! He needs to RS to maximize his potential.
  11. If Carroll hangs with Masoumi I will be thoroughly shocked because there are levels and then there are levels. He is good enough to win a senior medal right now and may very well be the starter for Iran at Paris if he follows the same developmental trajectory as Zare. And you can't forget that Ghasempour and/or Goleji may throw their respective hats in at 125 depending on how the 86/97 lineup shakes out. It is very much a JB/Dake/Taylor problem in that room right now.
  12. The criteria would be a high bar, but not any crazier than Demetrius Romero wrestling or Seth Towns playing basketball for eight years when neither utilized an oly RS. I’m just saying don’t be surprised if/when it happens.
  13. We may very well see some creative redshirt usag given the financial support NIL can potentially provide. Mix in a standard RS, Olympic redshirt or two, and an injury RS and bam! Micic’s record is getting swipes for a danger count. Below is a possibility, however wacky it may seem, for NINE years of college wrestling: 20-21 free covid year 21-22 frosh 22-23 soph 23-24 Olympic RS 24-25 junior 25-26 standard RS 26-27 injury RS 27-28 Olympic RS 28-29 senior, 5th year med school rotations
  14. IL had 1 champ and 3 finalists at NCAAs and at least one AA at every weight but 149 (I think). Going beyond college, IL has 3 reps on the senior world team this year. I would call 2023 a very successful campaign by anyone's folkstyle or international standards.
  15. DT couldn’t beat the guy who couldn’t beat Snyder (that would be J’Den Cox the one Rudis series he actually competed)
  16. Fox will likely follow suit soon. Will be interesting as Fox hosts B1G Network. ACC Network is hosted by ESPN. Big 12 is co-hosted by ESPN and Fox so that may get very interesting very quickly from a legal battle perspective over gambling rights. MAC is hosted by HudlTV so there could be a gambling partnership there over the next few years as well as other networks follow ESPN’s lead.
  17. DT called out Sadulaev for all the world to hear. That directly implies that he feels he is better than Snyder, weight class or not. So why doesn’t he go up Chamizo (57,65,74) and Cox (86,92,97) certainly did not back down from the challenge of going up to a third weight class after earning major accolades at the two prior. Those are two good recent comps everyone is familiar with. Additionally, Carl is known to have a keep-what-you-kill lineup but you’re welcome to stay even if you don’t win the spot and that cut is even deeper at the senior level with no team titles on the line. So I don’t feel that my comment was out of left field or (heavily) biased.
  18. ESPN Inks $2B Deal for Gambling Venture With Penn Entertainment Will we see lines for March Matness?
  19. Ahh I completely misread the first part of your tweet. I interpreted it to say "people from the state of Illinois overestimate their prowess."I was like "uhhh Ramos, Cassioppi, McGee, etc" but you are absolutely correct. I wholly agree that U Illinois has missed big time - they finally got rid of Hef but left the cupboard extremely bare. NIU has always been home to the placers and 1x champs that weren't blue chips but certainly too good not to be college athletes, used to compete with EIU back when they had a team for those same kids and it feels like SIU is trying to make suburbs inroads to do the same. I don't think NIU gets much in the way of scholarship support which makes it hard to convince a kid to move to Dekalb so it's back to the vicious circle of NCAA D1 wrestling. All this to say Poeta is doing yeoman's work with the roster, the staff, and the new facility.
  20. They increased the real $ by unlocking a regional economic driver with a supplemental long-term committed athletic revenue driver. Except they can't say profit or revenue because they're all "non-profit organizations" wink wink
