  1. Say what you will about all the pre-tournament posting about Teske's late entry, it did inject some life into this first round, which ordinarily tends to be a bit of a snooze when everything is seeded well.
  2. Nobody wants to face him in the wrestlebacks...
  3. Close. They just reviewed it and did not overturn.
  4. On the BTN+ app on my iPad there are five choices, Mats 1, 2, 3, 4 and quadbox of all four simultaneously.
  5. In the semis Sidun gets by with a 9-8 victory, but Sloboda falls 4-6, so there will be no D7 rematch in the finals.
  6. In the quarters Sloboda shut out his opponent 5-0 to advance. Sidun was leading 9-2 (a reversal for his opponent) but eventually won by fall to advance.
  7. First round action Sloboda majors his opponent 12-0. Still undefeated on the season. Sidun also advances, winning 12-6. First step accomplished.
  8. Sloboda was AAA Pa state fourth place last year at 107 as a freshman.
  9. AAA 114 Sloboda and Sidun have to get through a lot of guys to meet in the finals, but if they do that will be an epic rematch of D7 (WPIAL) guys.
  10. Well, how many other one-time national champions have multiple, multi-page threads about them? Not many. This guy (and his family) are famous for everything else. In fact, the more I think about it, there is a direct analogy to the Kardashians, since that saga starts with Bruce (ahem, now Caitlyn) Jenner winning an Olympic gold medal. He then married Kris Kardashian, and well, many, many TV shows, interviews, and beauty/fashion product lines later, they're in the news for everything but the decathlon. But you and I agree that Ferrari can't seem to get his act together, which is a waste of talent.
  11. Let's face it, they are the Kardashians of wrestling - famous for being famous. But now I have contributed to the madness by posting in this thread. Excuse me, I have to go wash my hands.
  12. Actually, I understand it is the home field for the Area51 team (nickname the "Aliens". motto: "Our performance is out of this World").
  13. I think Vargo was pretty much the only guy who beat a Bishop McCourt wrestler in the finals today, so kudos to him. BM is becoming the AA equivalent of BeCa, but over here west in the mountains. (BTW, for anybody in the know, is the BM coach off his suspension yet?)
  14. Yogi Berra has some new competition.
  15. Oh, now you're going all multi-variate on me... Thanks for the additional insight.
  16. Nicely done. So, if the one seed is the eventual champion 52.3% of the time (close to a coin flip), getting any kind of favorable odds to choose the field would seem to be a good bet.
  17. I was agreeing with your point that there were definitely differences, just that. ========================================================== But I just had a weird moment. The local cable company is showing a repeat of the 2017 PA state high school championship (they used to be broadcast on PCN, a public cable channel for free, until Flo bought the rights a few years back.) The 2017 finals featured the well-known match between Spencer Lee, with his knee bandaged up like a quilt, going for his fourth championship and an undefeated high school career versus Desanto, repeatedly described as being on a Visionquest to defeat Lee after having been bonused the prior year. And everybody knows that Lee lost that match. But, the finals also feature a young (sophomore?) Carter Starocci from Erie Cathedral Prep, who has a high schooler's middleweight body, and gets pretty much owned by eventual champion, the senior from Penn Trafford, Coy, who captured his third state title. Starocci's glory would have to come later. Both shown live on TV in 2017, and now both of them (or, at least their knee injuries) are being discussed in this same thread. Deja vu all over again, as they say.
  18. This. I don't think they are at all comparable. Lee, already hurt, but needs to win his match against a legitimate competitor. Starocci, healthy, just trying to finish the bonus against an over-matched opponent. Lee had to do something. Starocci just a freak accident. They are both knee injuries, however.
  19. Yes, when you're kind of coasting to victories that probably makes it less interesting. Now, having to change your style to accommodate an injury, that probably grabs your attention...
  20. What the hell is wrong with these guys today? A college campus used to be a relatively safe place to be. Thoughts/prayers to his family.
  21. I think mostly that was just PR-speak, and that winning an NCAA title would be pretty special to him. But a big thumbs up on the 'kicking himself' line...
  22. Yes. And we've seen guys wrap up a knee and go, e.g. Spencer Lee on multiple occasions.
