  1. I have to preface this by saying I really don’t know anything, these are just my thoughts. Hockey and Squash both have their own governing body at the collegiate level. Wrestling already has the NCWA and NWCA in place, if wrestling loses its varsity status in D1 it could become a self funded club sport. These schools already fundraise and have donor networks to help pay expenses. I don’t disagree that there could be some major shifts, although it’s all speculation at this point, but wrestling at the highest levels in the US would continue to exist in other capacities such as RTCs, clubs, etc. The NCAA model hasn’t been kind to wrestling in quite some time, so why put all our eggs in that basket? It’s simply a known quantity. I wish there were 300 D1 programs with millions of dollars of funding, but that isn’t the case. Our situation also isn’t unique when you look at other sports, the ones making money are few and fair between (football, basketball, maybe a select few others at certain institutions) and even then football has been and will be cut from school due to it’s insane need for scholarships and resources. In my warped opinion it makes more sense for school that struggle at football (PURDUE…) to get rid of the team and pour the millions upon millions of dollars into other sports, I know that’s a pipe dream though, continuing to use Purdue as my example they were remodeling their stadium every year I was there just to go 3-8 and have 25% of seats open. If D1 wrestling ceases to exist there will be 10 other sports in a similar boat such as swimming, diving, gymnastics, track and field, etc. There will be a solution, theres 300,000 HS wrestlers plus millions of other athlete’s playing non-revenue sports and many have hopes and dreams to compete at the next level. The demand for an outlet is there. We’re the only nation with college sports, yet Iran, Russia, Mongolia, Cuba, Japan and many others have top guys/girls that are able to compete with ours. I’m not sure the methods they use to develop and create talent but surely it’s working. This was a long rant, and maybe I’m being naive, but this doesn’t have to be a death sentence, particularly so preemptively. I choose to remain positive in the face of uncertainty.
  2. That’s how I see it, if anything, having a positive mindset is healthier, even if wrong.
  3. Do not put that into the ether…. i get bad feeling when you mention top level wrestlers, transfers, and PSU in the same sentence.
  4. I appreciate the response. I’ve been wracking my brain trying to guess who or what position said person could be in to have opinions about women’s wrestling, d1 wrestling, and the new “super conference” to come from the SEC/Big10 merge. it does appear he’s parroting someone’s opinion, but how credible can one person be unless it’s the president of the NCAA or an athletic director at one of the top athletic schools. thing can and will change, whether bc of the super conference or other. Women’s wrestling is doing fine without NCAA sponsorship, change does elicit panic, but this thread is nothing but speculation.
  5. You’re right, no need to be personal. I just tie a lot of personality, time, value, etc. to wrestling and what you say doesn’t make sense logically that “D1 wrestling is a dead man walking” Why don’t you just name drop and say exactly what was said? I don’t like the vagueness….
  6. I’m really curious his “well connected” people…. Dude has an inflated sense of importance.
  7. Regardless of how good he is I will never forgive the Brands brothers for trying to recruit over him with AJ Ferrari. Glazier did his time as a backup and was undefeated up to that point, that would not sit well with me if I were him. Heck, it doesn’t sit well with me as an Iowa hater. I hope he balls out in the post season! I like the Brands Bros (I know, crazy as an Iowa hater) but that fiasco left a bad taste in my mouth solely bc of Glazier.
  8. Some dude at my BJJ gym was talking about how he watched Okie state vs Iowa and was excited for Big10s. He never even wrestled.
  9. There have been 4 added in the past 4 years… you’re talking out your Debbie-downer little ass.
  10. Why is this board sooo dramatic and pessimistic. If the NCAA doesn’t work out there are 100 different avenues that could be explored and implemented. Nothing last forever and wrestling could do itself favors governing itself.
  11. I wasn’t an engineer, no chance I would have survived drinking, wrestling, and doing school. Had to pick two.
  12. Could be, I believe they’re a top engineering school!
  13. Good call out. I dislike Ollie as a guest/host, I do not have anything personal to say about him and he really does seem well liked by the guys. I didn’t mean to be an asshole, but I guess I definitely was.
  14. Hey- this is an Ollie hate thread, not an FRL hate thread. Fall in line buckeroo. One dragon to slay at a time.
  15. Finally people are coming around to what I’ve been saying forever….
  16. Tyler is sick. Sometimes I email FRL to let them know I like Tyler and hate Ollie. How do we get this to them so they can all know? There’s at least 4 of us that share your sentiment and this forum isn’t all that large compared to the FRL audience so it must be a larger portion. @Jon_Kozak are you a flo guy?
  17. Frick, someone make a competing league. “The 1st annual second string NCAA pick-ems memorial to end feeling left out”
  18. I will play and can talk shit with with the best of them. As long as I get dibs on Matt Ramos and Joey Blaze.
  19. There must be something Audrey knows about Lehigh that we don’t. I can’t imagine going to a club team without there being a clear path towards NCAA status and scholarship money, maybe RTCs or a club of Lehighs caliber has NIL money? But also women’s wrestling is a lot different than men’s and RTCs are perfectly acceptable places to train while studying for athletes with Olympic aspirations. There’s no necessity to wrestling in college, look at Amit Elor.
  20. Not this again… this involves change and that scares me. But I also like the idea of wrestling being free and not needing the NCAA calling shots. We could promote and expand our own sport rather than relying on some mega corporation that only cares about profits deciding wrestlings fate and stature.
  21. How prominent is this rule? I know next to nothing about swimming, but if everyone knows is strictly forbidden until the race is finished he deserves it. If it’s sorta obscure and maybe he didn’t know then that’s on the NCAA, coaches. And the student-athlete to make everyone aware. Anything that is an instant DQ should not be toyed with. With all that said I do feel for the kid, he didn’t interfere with anyone and let the accomplishment of a lifetime take over his critical thinking.
  22. What happened to Nick Lee? Was this suppose to go in Gomez’ favor? sorry, haven’t seen much of Gomez but I do know he’s a freestyle guy first and foremost.
  23. It’s bc they let Ollie on the show. He single handedly causes everyone to lose focus. As soon as I see him I know it’s going to be nothing but Long Island “jokes” and Bs about his personal life. As an Ollie hater, I must admit, the flo guys must like him with how much they feed off his distracting energy. But he make for terrible radio when he’s on bc no one can focus on the show. WRESTLING.
  24. Hey now… no need to get personal. This hits too close to home.
