Um, nowhere did I state that Nickal was better in HS. What you infer is not what was implied. No idea who was better in HS, don't care who was better in HS and it's irrelevant to who was the better in college. The point of mentioning Treigning Lab is that Taylor did not become potential GOAT material until years after college. And to make a joke that you didn't understand. Nickal's best win in college, Gabe Dean, is far better than any on Taylor's list. Taylor overwhelmed lesser opponents but did not have a signature win in college, regardless of the Hodge awards. Was Nickal better than Taylor in college? Maybe, maybe not but it is not unreasonable to think the best NCAA version of Nickal could beat the best NCAA version of Taylor on a P4P basis.

Daryl Hall hit the nail on the head when he said Robert Fripp's guitar playing "sounds like the universe crying". The last song of the last album of the best King Crimson lineup:

Not sure why you're quoting me in this thread but the "Cal" in "DT needed coach Cal more than coach Cael." refers to Sam Calavitta of Treigning Lab.

Once a child starts to enter puberty, they are much more likely to take the initiative to train intensely and are more capable of handling the pressure of competition. This differs for every kid but 5-6th grade isn't an unreasonable time-frame to start ratcheting up the intensity of training if the (child's) goal is to be competitive at a higher level. If this is what Askren and Messenbrink are doing, then that is more or less on the mark. I think Kolat says something along these lines as well. The Mecca of wrestling essentially follows this model. The only problem with this model is for the adults who use children as a vehicle for their own narcissism.

Post-Treigning Lab Taylor is a completely different animal and is the greatest American FS wrestler, IMO. DT needed coach Cal more than coach Cael. Nickal always had that dawg in him. Bo all day vs. NCAA Taylor.

This is the correct take. Strange that there is any pushback on this. If one wants to reliably cultivate a love for wrestling (or anything else for that matter), pre-pubescent children should not be subjected to the same type of training expected of elite cadets, juniors and beyond. Develop basic skills, develop a love for the sport, improve general strength, conditioning and coordination. Puberty is the great equalizer and if the child has the desire and innate ability to become competitive at the highest levels, skipping out on Tulsa Nationals in first grade isn't hindering this long-term objective. Askren is on the mark with his philosophy. It should be intuitive to any adult male regardless of whether you wrestled. Testosterone changes priorities. There will be exceptions but they are few and far between. Some of them reach the pinnacle of the sport. But fathers or coaches deluding themselves into thinking that their child is the exception to justify living vicariously through them is exactly what Askren is trying to nip in the bud. Good for him and good for Wisconsin wrestling.

I really enjoy some of these Daryl Hall at home performances. Really hoping to see something with Hall and Robert Fripp soon. Their Sacred Songs and Exposure collaborations are fantastic.

Jeff Beck and company with a Bob Dylan reinterpretation. Blows the original out of the water. The whole band is fire.

This is the correct take. Glory is more likely to lose at NCAA's due to the cut in the earlier rounds (quarters, in particular) than in the finals. He will lose in the finals because Lee is a better wrestler even though Glory will be two weight classes bigger than Lee on Saturday night.

Thanks for posting this. Not sure if it was already mentioned but why in the "duck duck goose" is Spencer allowing himself to be put into such compromising positions (like the opening sequence) in such an inconsequential match? I would have figured that he would be far more cautious but apparently not. One saving grace of freestyle for Lee is that some of the more dangerous scrambling positions (safety-wise) that he commonly finds himself are where his opponent exposes his back.

It's the 2017 WTT. Here is the link: https://www.flowrestling.org/video/5848636-furious-cael-sanderson-throws-cube-towel-and-chair-and-is-ejected-from-world-team-trials The video is pretty poor but it looks like he throws the brick and a towel at Sammy Julian before he puts the chair on the mat.

Warner would need a couple summers in the Jordan Holm School for Top-Bottom to have the necessary man-strength to consistently escape from someone like Dean without giving up RT. -

Rules brainstorm: No-saved-by-the-bell rule

I like it a lot but the extra time should count against the total match time otherwise the length of the bout could get out of hand. -
Hawkeye Lee has always struck me in interviews as someone that gives canned responses, saying what he's "supposed to say" like he's interviewing for an assistant AD job. Pretty sure he has a mean streak that he's managed to suppress for the sake of his future career prospects. This has almost certainly helped him land sponsorship deals as well as to groom him to glad-hand and navigate the endless bureaucracy that is college athletics administration. When Hawkeye fans were pining for Lee during his recruitment, they reveled in his "Sith" nature being a perfect fit for Iowa. I agree and wish he was more willing to wear it on his sleeve.

Did anyone here actually read the full Mueller report? If your answer is 'yes', then my next question is this: why? I have little doubt that even some members of the Mueller team responsible for the document didn't bother to read it in its entirety. A quick perusal of the document makes it abundantly clear that the findings don't live up to the treasonous intimations people like John Brennan made for years. But maybe I missed something. Maybe people like Glenn Greenwald also miss the point. Glenn Greenwald, a dyed in the wool liberal who is a preeminent expert on the abuses of the US security state had this to say about the Mueller Report (free article if you are willing to enter a (fake) email address): https://theintercept.com/2019/04/18/robert-mueller-did-not-merely-reject-the-trumprussia-conspiracy-theories-he-obliterated-them/ What does he miss? I'm willing to bet his thoughts on the matter are more cogent than the pablum passed off as keen "insights" by the access journalists littering legacy media corporations. Even as someone who realizes that Trump was a patently inadequate candidate for the Presidency, I find the close relationship between left-leaning MSM and former (and current?) security agency personnel unsettling. John Brennan and people like him were routinely paraded around on MSM insinuating Trump is days from imminent demise and the talking heads lapped it up like they were center stage in a bukkake film. This episode is an absolute disgrace to the concept of journalism. But everyone accepted it--some with glee--because Trump is such an unseemly lout.

LMAO, OnlyFans it is for Downey. Not much else for him at this point.

Few have the balls and fewer the bona fides to criticize Zappa's music but John McLaughlin was one of them: "He (Zappa) was a very good musician but he was a dictator in his band, I’m sorry to say. Plus, he was not only a dictator, but he was taking very long guitar solos. 10-15 minute guitar solos and really he should have taken 2 or 3 minute guitar solos, because they were a little bit boring". Hard to beat the musicality of this trio: This is probably my favorite song from the group but the whole album, Friday Night in San Francisco, is fantastic.

From multiple sources, Twitter was less-than-vigilant in cleaning up certain truly vile posts and accounts (like child porn/pedos). Perhaps it's not too surprising given the former head of "Trust and Saftey's" background: Twitter Files clearly shows that certain high-level employees wanted to limit the reach of Trump's speech. It had little to do with lies (yes, Trump was full of it) because even within their private Slack conversations they were grasping for reasons to de-platform him when his tweets did not violate TOS. To add further perspective, Emmanuel Macron and Angela Merkel publicly criticized the decision to de-platform Trump. I would hardly call them MAGA. This is besides the fact that there were many others who were banned or "shadow-banned" for daring to utter wrongthink. In some instances it is almost certain that this censorship was directed by people within the USG. I am willing to bet when the Covid Twitter Files are released, it's going to look particularly ugly. When Twitter effectively acts as the cyber "Town Square" (a cliche but apt description) it is dangerous (and perhaps unconstitutional) for people with a clear idealogical bent working hand in glove with multiple government agencies to decide which speech is censored. Even a Democratic Congressman could recognize this. That American citizens have no problem with this is troubling. It has nothing to do with left vs. right. If Twitter existed in its current form during the Bush years, there should be no doubt that questioning the Iraq war would have been dealt with in a similarly heavy-handed manner. If you think that notion is ridiculous, just look what happened to Chris Hedges during that time.

I have no expectations that greco should be as successful as MFS but they can at least be respectable. No one denies that MFS has important advantages over greco. Despite these advantages, even MFS was mediocre in the 2000's with the decade preceding RTCs being one of the worst ever. In the 2010 worlds, I count 11 FS/10 GR medals for countries that would otherwise be part of the USSR (not even counting Russia). No doubt this made it more difficult for both styles to have success. Without resources similar to the RTC model, greco has been left behind. Sad to see Olympic success in the US is basically tied to the interests of college boosters. But that is where we appear to be.
