  1. Lol did you watch it live? I didn't come up with that on my own.
  2. What is the rule on determining takedowns on rear standing/go behinds now?
  3. I thought it was reviewed and not overturned bc their bodies obscured the clock in the video. Am I making that up?
  4. I am unsure, I’ve disliked them in certain matches, but enjoyed them tonight. Others have said this, I think a major should be ten and a tech 18 or 20 points. Seven point moves are silly big IMO.
  5. Looks awfully worthy of a review to me…
  6. Well, after today it’s pretty easy to answer this question. I was rooting for ISU, but it was pretty apparent who the guys were that the brands wanted to keep around and who had to go elsewhere to find coaching openings. I don’t like saying it, but one corner was composed and prepared, the other was not.
  7. That’s fair. Nobody showing up at 84 and 97 lost them the match.
  8. I’d like to know what you have to back this up other than just feeling like disagreeing. Ech is a classic gasser, and had just run down a bear hug fir 30 seconds at the end if the match against the #1 guy. After holding Woods’ offense at bay all match then getting run over. JB called him out as looking very gassed on the broadcast just before overtime. Does JB also not know when someone is and isn’t gassed?
  9. I think he may well have, but even if Echemendia didn’t, it was close enough that challenging would have given him a much needed breather and a much better chance in overtime.
  10. This right here cost them the match.
  11. I gave Iowa garbage, now I have to give it to ISU. It is so clear that their upper weights just lean on each other in the room. They need a big boys coach who can actually move and teach. The difference in preparedness and attitude is so clear.
  12. With each passing year it becomes more and more clear that the Brands brothers scare their wrestlers into being afraid of making a mistake. It is so clear that there is a lack of enjoyment and fun in that room. Iowa gets more and more boring to watch.
  13. Iowa’s cardio looks way below par
  14. Part of this conversation might potentially benefit from discussing which schools do and don’t care about their wrestling programs. Hate to say it, but it often feels like if wrestling programs aren’t actively adding to the reputation of their respective schools they start running the risk of being shut down. Doesn’t help that wrestlers tend to be a rowdy bunch who don’t always pay the most attention to their schoolwork.
  15. I’m guessing you are relatively new to wrestling if you do not remember an era of 1 point freestyle takedowns. The entire point of the discussion is a change of rules which materially affects the nature of how matches are conducted and navigated. Freestyle and Greco have undergone a litany of such changes in an effort to stay relevant or “entertaining” in the eyes of the IOC.
  16. I’m on board with the concept of people coming together as individuals for a collective cause that they believe in and support. Adhering to dated delineators with the stated goal of emphasizing differences is not something I’m supportive of.
  17. That’s a pretty hefty bait and switch to assert that bc I’m also a fan of freestyle wrestling it means I’m on board with the entire ruleset. International wrestling is a clusterf*ck. Both greco and freestyle have been through more rule changes than I care to count since I first started wrestling. I hope very much that folkstyle doesn’t turn into that. A move like this is a considerable step in that direction IMO. Also, since you brought it up, 90% of the wrestling I did lifetime was folkstyle, and I’d say 75% of what I watch in a given year is folkstyle. I’m a folkstyle fan first and foremost.
  18. I am sorry to say I think you are missing out in the fundamental concept of what it means to be American. Also, people have been finding ways to differentiate themselves for ugly means pretty much forever. We don’t need people running around identifying with the things that differentiate them from their neighbor rather than embracing shared commonality. And to be clear, if you’re going based on Italian ancestry, Bono and Smith are by no means minorities and this conversation can end right here.
  19. There are much better things to write a movie about. A simple reboot would be terribly predictable, and would do women’s wrestling an immense disservice. I hope they come up with something original that respects and examines the unique position of women’s wrestling in the US rather than making a reboot which only continues to send the message “hey, we just kinda made the same thing for you. We didn’t examine your perspective and build a unique and compelling story around that, that would be too much work and too risky. Btw your character’s name is Loudina Swan.” Vision Quest and women’s wrestling both deserve more than a money grab.
  20. Lol, I don't know what part of the country you’re from, so I mean this without ridicule, but that era passed us by ~2 generations ago. If you want to count italians, you’re putting yourself in a place where you’ll have to count all the irish, Scottish, and German coaches as well.
  21. Ouch. Now obviously have to give credit to Olejnik, not everyone turns these things around. Hamiti is also enormous, the weight might be getting to him. He is also by and large a two-trick pony and may have been figured out. He has sneaky ankle picks, and will try to catch you in a cradle in the transition. These are things that always wow a college fanbase because they rarely happen, but if you are able to avoid being headhunted, and have the strength to stay in good position when he tries to tether-ball himself off your neck in one direction and the other, you’ll most likely be alright.
  22. What about if we add in the major twist that ISU somehow lands Gable as their AD?
  23. He would do very well wearing a Penn State singlet for a year, he’s perfect for that room style-wise.
  24. Hendrickson’s hurt. He blew out his knee in the finals of world’s he’s just not admitting it yet.
