  1. I believe this is mostly myth. The athletes that are competing at the highest level of the NCAA are athletes first. There are exceptions as there are at most schools and maybe the percentage at the Ivies is somewhat higher than a typical school. The classic saying about the Ivy league is that the hardest thing about them is getting in. Of course this varies widely depending on major. I would curios how many of the top wrestlers have challenging majors
  2. They kind of are. Similar to the way Ivies (some) can compete against the top DI schools in wrestling, in many other sports outside of FB and BB Ivies have competitive teams and AA level athletes
  3. Not at all interested in debating this and I actually don't pretend to know the truth, but I think instead of "complete fallacy" you meant to say that you found one article on the internet that confirmed your position.
  4. Germany is mono-racial, but that is besides the point. In other countries I would assume that the poorer communities get the worst results form new developments. There was very clear document evidence of how urban development has disproportionally hurt minority communities, whether that is just because they were poor or because the developers did not have the same concern for their need doesn't really matter. Your last paragraph is just silly
  5. I did not know that. I guess that proves that you cannot trust any professors
  6. It is silly to think that people truly believe that the roads are actively acting in racist manner. Also, it is naïve to believe that minority communities were not discriminated against when these roads were built. There are decisions that are made when major infrastructure are planned that benefit some communities and harm others.
  7. Some people are claiming all sorts of crazy stuff. That fact that you can find outliers does not mean this is what the genreal consensus is.
  8. That was a quote from the Polish pole vaulter who was saying that T&F crowds are respectful and never whistle while the fans at the Moscow Olympics were a-holes Moscow and hence the salute
  9. Cool article about the Polish pole vaulter: The Russian crowd was whistling... at any non-Russian contestant. They were whistling to distract us, you can only imagine the noise: 70,000 people at the Luzhniki Stadium, probably only 10,000 of them were tourists. It occurred to me that I'm the only person in the world who got whistled at for breaking the world record. So when I landed, I showed them this 'Polish shaft', the nicest one you can imagine. I expressed my anger at the whistling Soviet audience; nobody whistles in athletics. If you take a look at TV broadcasts, you find that people either clap rhythmically when they feel like it, or simply sit quietly Maybe AJ can do this to the Iowa crowd after winning his fourth NCAA and we can call it the Ferrari in the US
  10. If you believe college professors? LOL Somebody has had their brain addled by politics Also Oriental is not the preferred nomenclature_
  11. Not sure I got it exactly right, as the list I started with was a couple of years old. But here is my list of schools with more than 2 alumni as head coaches. For coaches that transferred when competing, I gave credit to both schools. I was surprised to see that Michigan & Oklahoma only had one each.
  12. I like to see Iowa struggle and don't like the Brands Bros. But having a premier program crash and burn over this is too much and bad for the sport.
  13. Almost all BJJ matches are won on the mat. A TD scores points, most people will just pull guard because ground work is really what BJJ is about. It was always frustrating for me with a Wrestling and Judo background to have guys just fall down as soon as you would tie up with them
  14. They clip is not representative of BJJ comp, but IMO, BJJ is a much worse spectator sport than wrestling. Much longer matches with often very little going on. I loved BJJ and enjoyed competitions, but watching world championship matches was excruciating.
  15. That changes perspective. If they weren't allowed to strike why was they guy wanting to stand?
  16. To be fair that was not a BJJ match. Someone who only wants to grapple in a MMA match better have takedowns, which are mostly unnecessary in BJJ
  17. The victim's status is clearly only mentioned to try to lessen the perceived severity of the crime. If he was a US citizen would the crime been worse? I also need to see a link before I really believe this story.
  18. Fair enough. I guess I remember the final result more then the "bumps" along the way. Still ADS never had any issues with law or "alleged" sexual assaults
  19. He also was before the 4 point NF rule (I think, the years are starting to run together)
  20. But Long Island and New Jersey are. Ivy League sports don't draw crowds with a few exceptions.
  21. Huge difference, in my view, between DeSanto and what we have seen of AJ, even without going into the off the mat legal troubles of Ferrari.
  22. I think thigh the main point is that you don't get to be a top HS wrestler without a year round commitment, lots of high level coaching and specialized training and a family that can afford and support that. Agreed that it seems to be happening in most sports and I don't think it is a good thing
  23. Pretty sure she was a US Olympic alternate even though she was born in France. I assume that she became a US citizen through marriage. A lot easier to make the US team than the French team in Judo
