  1. Using more recent data shows a different story:
  2. Did couture have any international achievements? I know he was a national team member, but don't think he ever medaled in the worlds. Cormier was a national team member for many years and made two Olympic teams, and I believe had at least one world bronze.
  3. Cael Sanderson or Ben Askren Cael won OW as a Freshman and got better significantly better every year. Askren was incredibly dominant his last two years. It looked like he was from the future as he put himself unfamiliar positions that looked terrible and ended up winnig every scramble. He transformed the sport
  4. I was just about to send a post asking who the hell watches this blowhard for 12 minutes? Ignorant wrestling fans or misled MMA guys that think Chael is well respected in wrestling circles? Then I circled back to his Youtube video and saw that he has a million subscribers and 26K+ views on that one video, so what the hell do I know?
  5. He plays fast and lose with the truth. Everyone who is on this board knows that Spencer was not favored to win the Olympic Gold in 2020 or 2024. Why do people need to stretch the truth, the story is compelling enough without the exaggerations. I made it half way through and he kept piling on more untruths. Specner was not going to be the first and 4X PA champ. He was not undefeated in college until his tournament. After 5 minutes I could not take anymore
  6. They said he was a DI wrestler. Anyone know where he wrestled and if he was any good?
  7. For anyone thinking that Cohlton would look better in a singlet, may I remind you:
  8. My power has been out since Wednesday morning and won't be back on until tomorrow afternoon due to a crazy late winter storm, so my DVRing that I do every year is not going happen. Thanks for all on the board giving updates!
  9. I thought the same thing. I seem to remember that he did some commentary in past NCAAs and wasn't terrible.
  10. In high school, we wrestled a team that had "If you can read this, you are getting pinned by a TEAM X wrestler" banner on the ceiling We got crushed and many of our guys got in some reading that day.
  11. Judo switched to having blue v. white Gi's about 20 year ago to make it easier for the fans to follow the scoring. Traditionalists hate this
  12. That is crazy...wrestling 5 weight classes in one season and beating the national champ in the process. More impressive than Dake's 4 titles at four different weight classes
  13. That are just not that many Olympic medalists around, especially if you take all the NLWC wrestlers out of the pool, but my memory is that Jamil Kelley (sliver medalist) was assistant at Harvard for a while.
  14. I thought in general boxers were not big weight cutters. Sugar Ray Leonard claimed to have weighed in with silver dollars in his pocket when he went up for a weight class for title fight. He did for sure weigh in with warm-ups... https://www.boxingnewsonline.net/on-this-day-sugar-ray-leonard-overcomes-a-spirited-donny-lalonde-to-win-world-titles-in-two-weight-divisions/
  15. 100% this. Boxers used to go up in weight class without gaining weight to have multiple belts at the same time (Sugar Ray Leonard against Hagler for one notable example). Maybe there is some reflex memory is us old guys brains that automatically thinks going up in weight class is impressive
  16. In Judo, if you are being held down (equivalent of a pin) you are not "saved by the bell"
  17. I had to look it up. You are correct that the US won two golds in the 1948 Olympics, but after that through 1969, they won a total of four more golds. Dan Gable made his world debut in 1970 and since then the US has been a top team.
