  1. Also Iran was no wrestling power in 1984. Lets not make a big deal about them deciding not to come in 1984. They had bigger issues to worry about. They were not a top 10 team in 83 or 85, and had just one medal in each of those years. Cuba was almost as bad. Bulgaria was excellent, however.
  2. I don't care, But I posted anyway! Just an example: https://m.allfootballapp.com/news/Depth/Liverpools-2001-Mickey-Mouse-Treble-winners-Where-are-they-now/2612827
  3. Right, but has been used in European soccer for decades to disrespect championships. The world began before 2020. A little more digging also reveals referees being called "Mickey Mouse refs" and gimmick plays being disrespected as "Mickey Mouse." And LOL to your etymology source. Where did that come from?
  4. I think that match was at least slightly out of character for Gable. Not saying he was always an angel, but he is on record saying that was the most upset he ever was during and after a match. He felt overwhelmed and exhausted after. I believe that he has said when he went into the tunnel that he was so overwhelmed that he was physically ill and thought he might actually be having a heart attack.
  5. Actually your "joke" fell very flat. I guess it was a joke? Was it? And you clearly di not know how many Russians live in Israel. That is ok. Now you know.
  6. This is not accurate. "Mickey Mouse" predates covid as a derogatory term in sports and especially for certain sports titles.
  7. Talking about the '84 Greco guys: Both did pretty well. Blatnick defeated World Champ and 8x World/Olympic medalist Johansson of Sweden (who was actually caught doping in 84, losing the medal.) Fraser defeated Frank Andersson, a three time world champ, who may have been a year or two past his prime. Fraser also had to beat Mike Houck, who won World gold in 85, in the US trials. Wrestling was significantly diminished by the lack of Eastern Bloc nations, but the Nordic nations were very strong at the time. Both medalists beat studs.
  8. I know a guy who basically made his own, but same idea.
  9. Person to person. (Not to mention a good portion of the population has mrsa already in or on their bodies. When I was recovering from mrsa on my knee and my jawline, I was made to put a swap with an antibiotic ointment inside each nostril, because something like 33% of humans have staph inside their nose.)
  10. 15% of Israelis have Russian/Soviet origins. I don't think Kalishkanov is that uncommon a surname in the former Soviet nations. It basically means "maker of fancy bread, " if I am not mistaken. I was thinking less about a Russian general and more about an arms designer, but not surprised to see a Soviet-type name on an Israeli roster.

  12. It is pretty mainstream.
  13. I can see that from a wrestling perspective. Academically not so much, but it has been done before. (This is not to insult Nebraska, very few schools compare to Northwestern, academically)
  14. 2022 was kind of a done deal with Iowa injuries, but I'm not sure healthy Iowa beats PSU in a tournament with those two in the lineup. Also talking duals, which do have some degree of importance.
  15. Dean and Kerkvliet weren't devastating enough?
  16. Northwestern probably has one of the worst starting athlete/big recruit retention rates for a wrestling program from a major conference. I have no idea why. Just an observation.
