  1. This doesn’t necessarily mean Cael was “really going after him,” but according to old Flo articles, Mendez had PSU in his top 5. Can’t find anything on Bouzakis but I seem to recall them being in on him too. Not sure about Feldman. Interesting tweet/post here looking back at that class:
  2. Well this goes back to my question of how are we defining “easiest”? Sure, if we’re defining it as how hard it would be for someone else to beat the top 1 or 2 guys, sure I’ll admit it’s probably 125. But 125 is super deep. 133 for example has 3 studs (I’m counting Crookham), 3 or 4 pretty good guys, then kinda drops off a cliff. In fact the 4/5/6 guys (Nagao, Orine and Latona, I’m counting Crookham as #3, silly for Intermat to have him as #5 IMO), all have losses to 3 different guys currently in the 125 field.
  3. Executing a counter takedown is not stalling, but you need to also be working your own, it’s literally under the definition of stalling - “continue wrestling in an attempt to secure a takedown.” Just waiting for the other guy to do something is not attempting to secure a takedown. Running off the mat is also stalling (it’d be fleeing the mat in high school), but so is backing up repeatedly.
  4. And said “we,” an easy sign of a PSU fan
  5. I think at least one of Pletcher, Moore or Sasso probably wins in 2020. But we’ll never know
  6. I was probably considered a naysayer in there, but it was mostly in response to the numerous posts saying how awesome he was. I thought he was fine but he was basically coaching the guys. Honestly I’d take Pyles over him.
  7. It’s weird that the guy that beat Spencer Lee (and would have beaten him without the pin) already has 4 losses this year (3 to NCAA opponents) yet so many people keep saying 125 is weak.
  8. Was there a thread complaining about Taylor? I thought there was one were people were saying they thought he had potential to be the best announcer of all time? I disagreed and thought he was OK as well, similar to my opinion on Pyles (and the kids from the Pitt/Maryland dual).
  9. lol just because he’s not Cael doesn’t mean he’s “not good.” They do seem to have a decent amount of guys that have their best years as freshmen (Martin, Tomasello), but they’ve also had guys steadily improve (Romero). And Luke Pletcher from 2019 to 2020 might be one of the better 1 year improvements in recent memory.
  10. Kozak asks a good question here. edit: shoot forgot Camacho already was #1, for some reason I thought he wasn’t. I guess you kinda have to leave him there but he’s basically being rewarded for not wrestling at CKLV
  11. IMO more often than not guys do better after moving from 197 to HWT
  12. Apparently Knox bonused his way through 2 D3 tourneys last year as a high schooler. He needs to hire Bo Bassett’s social media team
  13. Some more 125: Provo over everyone Caleb Smith over Ramos in consi semis 141: Happel over Hardy Jamison over Hardy (after losing to him earlier) and Cornella Echemendia over Cornella 149: Nash Singleton over Kinner 157: Gallagher over Chumbley 165: Garrett Thompson over Olguin 174: Perrine over Norman who beat Griffith and Austin Murphy 184: Sam Wolf over Foca and Hoffman 197: Jaxon Smith over Sloan
  14. He won that match 8-7. I thought the complaint you were replying to was about guys getting 1 early TD then stalling the rest of the match?
  15. Backing up is stalling. Waiting for an opponent to shoot so you can counter is stalling.
  16. Yes and no. I think part of their argument about it not impacting rankings was that “you don’t know what would have happened the rest of the match”?
  17. I think he’s OK but I can accept an argument that he’s bad at PBP. But I disagree that color is more important than PBP
  18. So all sports should get rid of play by play guys on TV broadcasts?
  19. Anyone else notice Pyles say, “don’t let the injury default fool you, Ungar was in control of that match prior to the injury”? Wasn’t he a big proponent of “injury defaults don’t count for rankings”?
  20. I don’t mind the play by play. Sometimes I’ll keep some wrestling on in the background while I’m doing something else so appreciate the play by play letting me know it’s time to pay attention
  21. What is the record for wins without getting a takedown? 3 of Voinovich’s 4 wins against D1 opponents he has not scored a TD
  22. Were they already 2x AA’s at the time the losses happened?
  23. I live on the east coast and whenever I travel to the west coast the next day I wake up at like 4am (7am east coast time), so am very tired by the end of the day. And don’t have to wrestle D1 opponents. Cardenas obviously very good. But it looked like Shapiro’s biggest issue was his gas tank IMO.
  24. Cardenas looked very good, although worth noting that 10 of those points came in like a 10 second span. He also earned a three point nearfall for those wondering if there have been any yet this year.
