Penn State looks flat. They are not finishing takedowns quickly or not able to get them. None of the first 5 guys were very impressive in either wins or losses. I guess Lehigh deserves some credit. They came ready to wrestle.

I think a bunch of the guys are being held out for Senior (freestyle) Nationals (Dec 15), including Van Ness, Brooks.

I don't get the really strong anti-Pyles sentiment. He's knowledgable and passionate about the sport, and especially the hundreds of wrestlers who inhabit it, including their past matches, tendencies on the mat, records, and so on. I suspect some folks don't like his asides, wisecracks, and personal opinions, and maybe some of that comes from his FRL FLO show. Who knows? I tend to prefer when he is commenting on a match with someone else as well: Bader, Taylor, Spey, etc. since can balance each other out: PBP vs. color commentary, etc.

I was at the match. Penn wrestled Iowa tough. The crowd showed a lot of support. The Brands brothers of course were bouncing around on the sidelines. Maximus Hale ... what a name.

Is Wrestleknownothing the Billy Bean (Money Ball) of wrestling? Perhaps there is a statistical future as an advisor for a D1 team. Can he take, say, Maryland or Bloomsburg to an NCAA championship with un/orthodox analytics?

Where have you seen this written? I don't think it is correct. Below is a quote from the USA wrestling website. It clearly implies that those who have qualified for the trials can in fact compete: "The top five finishers per weight category at the 2023 Senior Nationals will earn a spot in the U.S. Olympic Team Trials. (Note: An athlete must place in top five. If one of the top five is already qualified, no additional athletes beyond the top five are added)."
