Pan-Am Olympic Qualifier 2/28 - 3/1
SocraTease replied to Wrestleknownothing's topic in International Wrestling
RBY hasn't wrestled his quarterfinal match yet and they are skipping around in weights. -

Zane Richards with the tech, 14-1. He was up 10-0; not sure why they continued action with the guy's reversal for 1. -

Part of me thinks Gomez needed a breather and faked injury. I need to watch the replay. -

Lee looked like he was on the way to a tech earlier. He was out-wrestling Gomez. -

Something about Penn State and 65KG at Pan Ams ... Retherford lost here as well and didn't qualify the weight a few years back. -

Ach!. Gomez makes a big comeback and wins 22-12. Nick uncharacteristically faded bad. Looks like 65KG will not be qualified here for the US. One last chance at the Last Chance. Disappointing. -

The big upcoming match in the quarters is Nick Lee vs. Austin Gomez. Winner goes to semis and very likely the finals for an Olympic berth. Lee wrestled Gomez at Worlds last year and pinned him after leading ... something like 7-3 but Gomez was and is dangerous. Lee can go upper body however and has some length on Gomez, which helps. Below is a link to their match at Worlds if you can access it: https://www.flowrestling.org/events/11049592-2023-senior-world-championships/videos?playing=11251702 -

RBY looks really sucked down. Thin. The cut must be really tough to 57kg -

Yes, it's him. He looks bad so far after being down 8-0 ... but rallies with a pin. Dylan Palacio (now of Uruguay and former folkstyle wrestler) looked terrible at 74 KG. He lost 12-2 to a guy from Brazil. He didn't do much and kind of appeared lost on the mat. RBY took care of business quickly in his first match. -

Wheels falling off & the T&T plan comes together
SocraTease replied to ionel's topic in College Wrestling
There are masterpieces ... and then there are disaster-pieces. Centralia belongs to the latter category like Three Mile Island and Chernobyl but, hey, property taxes and rents there are probably pretty low, right? -

Reminds me of a remark by another former wrestler and also a piece of ______: "Reports that say that something hasn't happened are always interesting to me, because as we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns—the ones we don't know we don't know. And if one looks throughout the history of our country and other free countries, it is the latter category that tends to be the difficult ones"

Seduced and Abandoned !! All the vacuous hype around 165 and 285.

I think he's decided just to focus on the Olympic Qualifier next weekend. A big weight cut two weekends in a row probably isn't going to help him. He isn't ducking Lee. The goal is to qualify. He has a reasonable chance of beating Richards if they are on the same side of the bracket. If not, there is always a last chance Qualifier

RBY and Gomez are apparently skipping Pan Am championships this weekend to focus on the Olympic Qualifier the following weekend.

Pan Am brackets are out for freestyle this weekend. It's not the Olympic qualifier but the Pan Am championships, just to be clear (in case there is confusion): https://uww.org/event/seniors-pan-american-championships/results

Olympic Trials are less than two months away. Does anyone who has an ear to the wall know which way Retherford is going? Up to 74KG or down to 65KG? He's surely made a decision and move by now. I seem to think there are a few others with this dilemma. I think Chance is going up. Green is going down. Dieringer is going up. Vito is going down. Cassiopi is going down. Cox will be at 97KG ... though I haven't heard much about him lately. Has anyone? Nashon ? (I suspect up) Shapiro? (I suspect up) Desanto (probably up) Others? Gross? The weight Yo Yo-ing is underway ... of course because the damn Olympic committee forces 10 weights into 6, which is a terrible crime
