Matt Valenti Slated to be Penn Head Coach
Voice of the Quakers replied to BloodRound's topic in College Wrestling
Penn coaching timeline: - Reina steps down first time, Penn hires Zeke Jones as HC from WVU. - Zeke leaves in the middle of his 2nd season for Colorado Springs, Penn promotes Rob Eiter to head coach. - Rob - great guy, love him - doesn’t work out. Penn hired younger Tirapelle. - Younger Tirapelle REALLY doesn’t work out. Reina returns from athletic administration to right the ship. - And now, Valenti steps down from athletic administration to step in for Reina. i have a lot of thoughts about what’s going on at Penn, but for now I will just say I believe Matt is going to be a very good head coach for Penn. -
Congrats to the Spartans on becoming the Wolverines' farm team. I sincerely hope this leads to some serious conversations in East Lansing about funding and NIL.

Is this a wake-up for Iowa..., finally?
Voice of the Quakers replied to AgaveMaria's topic in College Wrestling
I thought the Brands Bros. had made that small change when they brought in Kemdog and the rest of the Key-Hawks. Those kids were different on and off the mat from who had been there before. Maybe the kids they will keep bringing in via the transfer portal will continue to evolve the Hawkeyes. Maybe, someday, they bring in someone from outside the family to help with coaching. But, the results this year and the recruitment of the Ferraris make me skeptical. -

I think the Brands brothers are underachieving at Iowa - bringing in the Ford Focus to Iowa City was a sign of desperation. But, so long as Carver-Hawkeye sells out and Iowa wins 90 percent of their matches the Brands brothers will be fine for the foreseeable future. Beth Goetz has two much, much bigger fish to fry: 1) Figuring out the transition from Kirk Ferentz to whomever is next. Guessing that relationship is already frosty having made the HC fire his kid. 2) Figuring our the transition from their maniac Men's basketball coach (Fran McCaffery) to the next coach. That dude has had a sustained run of mediocrity, his son is transferring out, Iowa State's MBB program is in the Sweet 16, and those March Madness "points" pay a lot more to the school than success on the wrestling mat does. -

Of course. Penn State transfer. He was vertically challenged. -

The Penn wrestling team withdrew from school en masse in 2020-21 to preserve everyone's eligibility. (I would also hope avoiding paying $80K for a bogus year of all virtual classes was part of the motivation.) Practically all of the impacted wrestlers used up their eligibility this year, so you won't see anyone in the transfer portal like Neil Antrassian (wrestled his final season at UVA) was a couple seasons ago. Still surprised to see so many kids around the Ivy League made the decision to stay in school that year - many who were early in their academic careers and nowhere close to graduation - knowing full well they were going to "lose" the year. -
Typically, a student in good standing can leave one of the US military academies within the first two years with no financial penalty.

I'm from Central New York; my wife is from Tampa. AZ is to far away and Ithaca and Ann Arbor are too cold for my wife. So, Raleigh for me. (And maybe my son, if he chooses not to swim in college.)

My best guess for Penn, with no inside info. A lot of stability, and hopefully one or two break through/repeat as AAs. 125 - Gallagher 133 - Ryan Miller (lose Colaiocco) 141 - Composto 149/157 - Swisher/Wasilewski (lose Revano) 165 - Sement 174 - Incontrera 184 - Hale 197 - Cosgrove (lose Urbas) HWT - Delsanter (lose John Stout) -
Seems like a question too subjective to answer. Tempe is very different than Ann Arbor which is very different than Raleigh which is very different than Ithaca. I know what I would pick given my background, but others would pick other places for very valid reasons.

The Iowa State AD was a doofus, Penn State was a sleeping giant, and Penn State also rolled out a Brinks truck.

Hendrickson is entering the WCAP program - nothing but FS moving forward. https://myairforcelife.com/air-force-wcap/

Hamiti (or anyone else) would not be able to compete at any Ivy League school as a graduate student, and Ivy League schools are highly, highly unlikely to accept any transfer this far along into their undergraduate academic careers.

I’ve worked in media for 30 years. I’ll keep my comments just to the finals, because I watched Matcast for the other sessions. First, no one tuned in to the finals Saturday night because DC or JB were on the mic. In very rare occurrences do announcers either draw or repel viewers. Casual sports fans will find our sport when there is a compelling on mat story or depending on what else is on TV. I will be curious what the ratings will be tomorrow given the multiple Penn State storylines. I do like my sports telecasts pretty straightforward. From a production standpoint, I think the telecast should’ve had DC or JB, not both. Four in the booth is too many, and DC and JB were largely filling the same role. They crowded out Mike Couzens, who I think is really good at play by play, as well as Rock Harrison, who should have been allowed more time to speak to the rules, particularly during 133 and with the inconsistency of the stalling calls throughout the finals. i do think DC and JB would have been really good by themselves on an alternate telecast where they could riff for hardcore fans without having to worry about “calling” the bouts, like the Mannings do for MNF. Maybe next year.

Session 6 - Championship Finals Saturday March 23 2024

DC and Jordan are wrong. You don’t attack the injured leg - you attack the good leg and make your opponent fight off the bad leg. (Trust me - I have no ACL in my left leg.) -

No. Because the RT clock stopped on the locked hands call, Fix actually had a 25 second RT advantage when they restarted with 9 seconds left. -

As long as your happy with all of the matches that would be decided by stalling calls, then have it
