  1. So, the answer is pettiness. There are reasons I don't miss being involved as closely with college sports as much as I used to be... You may be asking, is there any way to overrule the seeds, since this is a calculation done via computer with very little common sense? The answer is "yes, of course!" Without giving away all of the details, there is a way to "challenge" a seed if within a certain number of seeding points to the wrestler above. Because Yianni and Glory were outside of this threshold, there is one final step in the process to get the final seeds "correct." The EIWA calls it the outlier rule. When Glory's 2nd seed was challenged as an outlier (but still outside of that challengeable criteria), 13 of the 17 (75%) coaches needed to vote yes to overturn and give him the top seed. It only took five votes to block these challenges from happening. The same situation occurred for Yianni's seed at 149 lbs. https://intermatwrestle.com/articles/26547
  2. I'm guessing this is a points based system and that obvious errors - Yianni did beat Zapf in the dual - will be fixed. However, I for one am happy to see some punishment for wrestlers with few matches and obvious "ducks".
  3. Final pre-tournament rankings from the EIWA below. I'd be surprised if the Top 8 seeds differ from what is posted. https://www.eiwawrestling.org/sports/wrest/2022-23/releases/20230222bn3jq9
  4. I'll mention my idea for the umpteenth time, not that anyone cares... Riding time should not be worth a point. Rather, it should only be used to break a tie at the end of regulation, much as it is used at the end of overtime. So, if a match is tied 6-6 at the end of seven minutes, you can break the tie and award a win if one of the wrestlers has more than a minute of riding time. It's a bit similar to the check mark system used for aggressiveness and other criteria in eastern martial arts.
  5. Who would think the escapes Brooks gifted Rhodes could be the difference
  6. Starocci plays with his food too much for my liking. Not getting bonus points there could really hurt.
  7. Now that the IOC is getting itself past its issues with the war, when will they address the Putin regime's repeated attempts to undermine drug testing rules? I'm not a big PED prude, but the world still has to say enough is enough with the Russian state's behavior. I do believe this is actually the more important issue within the IOC given their desire to be just about sport and not about politics.
  8. If ChatGTP can instantly produce the exact type of text that I routinely delete from my email inbox without reading, then I'm not sure we have that much to worry about.
  9. US-England drew 20 million viewers. US-Iran will also have a sizable TV audience. If and when there are a lot more Americans paying attention to wrestling, there will be much more scrutiny of our matches with Iran.
  10. Whatever you want to call it, yes, CJ will not wrestle for Penn this year. Carmen Ferrante will man 141 for the Quakers this year. And, I do like the swap between Zapf and Artalona - I think it suits both of them physically and stylistically very well this season. Looking forward to seeing them both wrestle this weekend at Keystone.
