unless it was at Reno TOC back in the day, I do not think so Blaze was always 113/120 when Hughes was in high school, and I think Hughes was generally 132-138. Personally, I think Bailey may have been a bigger notch in the cap than Hughes although Bailey is a better folk guy.
the most interesting pieces to me are Feldman who narrowed the gap each time and seemed to make huge jumps as the season went on. Also given he did not do u23's I assume hes all in on the folkstyle season. Keuter who lost 9-1 but had been in the room for what 2 months, and now for the first time in probably 8 years is focused exclusively on wrestling. Lastly Wyatt who is finally in a legitimate room. If I was a betting man and I am I would potentially bet on the field against Kirk this year however he still should be a decent stand-alone favorite.
he had mentioned that they are returning 3 linebackers in an interview, so he hoped to work his way on the special team's unit. Ultimately, I think he's very talented at both things, but he may be looking at it as he can't start this year so let me throw all my eggs into the thing, I may be better at compared to my peers and see where that goes. As evidence by Gable signing with the bills football will be there when he's done.
Marcus blaze over the last 18 months has wrestled
Anthony knox twice
Jax Forrest twice
Ben Davino three times
Nick suriano
Nico Megaludis
Nasir Bailey
Luke Lilledahl
Leo Deluca twice
Jordyn Rayney once
Brayden Palmer on a one day weigh in 12 hours after the weigh in (he was probably 140+)
Im probably missing some. Of all those matches hes been takedown 4 times once by forrest, once by palmer, once by davino and once by suriano.
I think hes a 133/141 and college but his defense is probably the best ive ever seen and hes developed into a really good leg attacker on top of having a really good slide bide and go behind. I think Duke is also absolutely unreal but in terms of nitpicking he seems to let guys in a bit more often and his gas tank is a little suspect to me. All that being said I think Blaze has a really good shot at being a 4x champ not that you can really predict that but his resume is just unreal to me.
he has somehow managed to become a tweener which is hilarious to say. I dont think he is athletic enough for 197 or to be competitive at the top of heavy now. ultimately the size advantage at 197 is probably his best bet. A carter vs Cass match makes me laugh to think about.
I watched one of his youtube videos when he wrestled in bulgaria and he was shedding a few lbs to make weight at what I assume was +2kg for 61kg so that boy is big.
@Husker_DuHeard you say Marcus blaze and his teammate Ben Davino then double back on cadet world team teammate... Was that a freudian or am I reading way too much into it??
I think that AB would beat snyder currently if he decided to go for 97kg. AB reminds me a lot of Cael not to the same extent as David but definitely similar. I do think AB is bigger than Cael was though, and given caels offense was largely based on moving his opponent I could see that being an issue with Snyder.
This is a 2025-2026 lineup but if tOSU gets Blaze their lineup would look something like
125: Kilkeary/McCrone
133: Davino/Blaze/Bouzakis
141: Blaze/Bouzakis/mendez
149: Mendez/Shaw
157: Bouzakis/Birden/Paddy
165: Bouzakis/Birden/Paddy
174: Welsh
184: Rogotzke
197: Geog
285: Feldman
do we think this could beat PSU? I dont think they will be as good through and through but I think they could have 4-5 finalists (I'm outrageously high on blaze and almost as high on Davino)
I think people are saying this because the general consensus for a while seemed to be guys wrestled where they walked around at for them. You have to send out your best lineup which they obviously do, and it works for them but that is a result of cutting weight and I think that will continue as their room gets more and more occupied by multiple AA type guys at each weight.
for sure! looking back as Gus mentioned I think It probably goes PK,Gunderson,Voelker or Gunderson,Pk,Voelker or maybe even Gunderson at heavy his red shirt year he wrestled up there.
selfishly I want PK to go up so we get him vs carter anyhow So im hoping we see gunderson,PK,Voelker.
heavy is also their weakest weight by a decent margin.
my guess is he thought he would get the weight off easier than he did or he was sick or something out of his control. He's not a particularly huge kid.
PK is huge I thought right after the season the thought was he would go 197 but the Gunderson had a great LCQ. Their best lineup would probably be voelker of gunderson up!
Northern Iowa is going to have a team next year
125: Trevor Anderson (Beat Camacho and was in a lot of matches
133: Julian Farber
141: Happel
149: Realbuto
157: Downey
165: Jack Thomson
174: Gunderson?
184: PK
197: Voelker
285: Jose Valdez
could see this being a team with 9 NQ's and if gunderson can make 174 effectively maybe 5-6 aa's
