  2. After winning the Kansas Cup over the weekend, by .5 of a point, the Bethany College Wrestling team hosted York College Tuesday, Jan. 28. The Swedes did just enough to escape the night with a win. The 16th-ranked Swedes defeated the 11th-ranked Panthers 19-18. "Though we came away with a win against a quality team, thanks in part to our depth, we didn't perform at the level we need to in order to be where we want to be at the end of the season," said Assistant Coach Cody Garcia. "Consistency is a trait of a great team and we are still striving to get there. The guys have wrestled well over the last month and I believe they are made of the right stuff and will respond with a solid performance next Wednesday against in-state rival Baker." The Blue Raiders would hold that lead for the remainder of the dual. Eighth-ranked Isaac Thomas took a 9-5 win at 149 over Brandon Westerman, who ranks No. 2 at the 141 weight class. 5. Josh Duplin's late takedown gave him a 4-3 win and preserved a 21-16 victory for the 13th-ranked Mountain Cat wrestlers at No. 16 Lake Erie (OH) College on Tuesday. Pitt-Johnstown raised its winning streak to eight straight matches and improved to 10-1 on the year. After Evan Rosborough upset Zac Bennett at 197 lbs. to narrow Lake Erie's deficit to 18-16 heading into the final bout of the night, Duplin used a late takedown to erase a 3-2 deficit and defeat Almonte Patrick 4-3 to give the Mountain Cats the victory. The Mountain Cats started strong with fourth-ranked Dave Fogle's 17-1 technical fall over Keanu Thompson at 6:22, but Lake Erie came right back to take its first lead of the night with wins at 133 and 141 lbs. At 133 lbs., Austin Gillihan defeated Luke Palamides, 13-7, before Dylan Kager scored a 14-3 major decision over Craig Dawson at 141 lbs. to put the Storm in front, 7-5. Pitt-Johnstown regained the lead at 149 lbs. when Sam Hanau broke a 9-9 third-period tie with a fall over Nick Bloch at 5:35 to make it 11-7. At 157 lbs., second-ranked Zach Vargo broke open a 1-0 lead after two periods on his way to defeating Mountain Cat true freshman Cole Landowski, 6-1, and getting Lake Erie to within one at 11-10. Eighth-ranked Gary Lantz increased the Pitt-Johnstown lead to 14-10 with a 9-5 decision over Tyler Tesney at 165 lbs., a 4-2 win by Dylan Zivcic over Nikos Garafola at 174 lbs. narrowed it to 14-13. Second-ranked Travis McKillop earned a 10-2 major decision over Chevy Farris at 184 lbs. to give the Mountain Cats a five-point advantage with two bouts remaining. However, Rosborough scored five points as time was about to expire to upset Bennett, 6-4, setting up Duplin's match that sealed the Mountain Cat win. With the loss, Lake Erie dropped to 9-7. Pitt-Johnstown will host Wheeling Jesuit (WV) University on Friday, before hosting Gannon University on Saturday, February 8. Both matches are scheduled to start at 7 p.m. in the Sports Center. 6. The Viking wrestling team recognized its nine seniors prior to its final home dual of the season against William Penn tonight in Des Moines. The team then celebrated the occasion by recording its second shutout of a dual opponent in less than a week, trouncing the Statesmen 48-0. Andrew Clark (Cincinnati, Ohio) opened the night at 125 with a pin of Andrew Gorman in 3:09. Brandon Benvenuti (Sacramento, Calif.) followed with a pin of Trey Busick in 2:47. At 141, Gustavo Martinez (Marshalltown, Iowa) won by tech fall (26-11) over Lane Colwell and Justian Dixon (Iowa City, Iowa) followed with a 6-2 decision over Angelo Kelly at 149. Derrick Hawkins (Corona, Calif.) edged Kyle Soderblum with a 6-5 decision at 197. Heavyweight Eric Thompson (Shell Rock, Iowa) ended the night with a pin of Nate Veverka in 2:24. Grand View remains undefeated in dual action this season. The Vikings next compete at the Briar Cliff Open this Saturday, Feb. 1 in Sioux City. 7. This past weekend was the last heavy weekend in terms of regular season action throughout the country. Some states start their individual state tournament series this week, while others have team state series events. There are additional states where regular season action is still going on, whether its duals or conference tournaments. No. 1 Blair Academy journey of dual meets This past weekend, Blair Academy (N.J.) hosted a super quad meet in which the host Buccaneers wrestled four teams, two of whom were nationally ranked. The opening dual meet was a 47-9 victory over No. 24 Don Bosco Prep (N.J.), in which Blair Academy took home victories in 12 weight classes. Results In the nightcap, the Buccaneers won ten bouts against No. 27 St. Edward (Ohio) in a 46-12 victory. Results The other two victories came by the scores of 61-6 over Smyrna, Del., and 47-15 over Tulsa Union, Okla. In the other battle of nationally ranked teams on site, Don Bosco Prep upended St. Edward 31-19, as the Ironman won eight of the weight classes. Results It was an interesting dual meet, as St. Edward went 4-2 in matches decided by two points or less. In addition, the absence of No. 11 L.J. Bentley at 113 pounds was at least a nine-point swing to the detriment of St. Edward; while Don Bosco Prep misplayed strategy in the 170/182 weight classes. The absence of Bentley also proved costly, as St. Edward was upset 36-27 by Tulsa Union, Okla. In that dual meet, the teams split the bouts seven apiece. An outcome of interest in that dual meet was an unexpected pin for Luke Wolfensberger of the victorious Redskins against Hunter Ladnier at 132. No. 8 Bergen Catholic on its own gauntlet This past Saturday, Bergen Catholic -- which is the best team in NJSIAA competition -- took on their sixth nationally ranked foe of the season in the form of fellow state champion No. 20 Bound Brook, N.J. The first nine matches of the dual were back-and-forth, as the lead changed hands three times with three other times where the score was tied. However, a swing match at 170 pounds provided the dual meet's final turn. A battle of state qualifiers between Kevin Mulligan and Isaiah Soto went in favor of Mulligan by 5-0 decision, which broke a 16-16 tie. No. 1 Johnny Sebastian would secure a pin early in the second period to push the team score out to 25-16. The situation was further exacerbated when Danny DeLorenzi pulled off an upset at 195, when he pinned returning state qualifier Aaron Saavedra early in the third period. Two additional narrow decisions for Bergen Catholic would provide the final margin of 37-16, including a 5-3 upset victory for Conner O'Brien over returning state placer Stephen Johnson. Results Come this weekend, Bergen Catholic is scheduled to take on their seventh and eighth nationally ranked foes in dual meet competition. Not only have these been ranked teams, but they all reside inside the top 25 at present. Friday night, the Crusaders travel to Don Bosco Prep for their annual rivalry dual meet; then on Saturday, they make the trip to Blair Academy for a 6 p.m. dual meet. Also this week in the Garden State is a dual meet with Bound Brook traveling to No. 25 St. Peter's Prep. The teams did already wrestle at The Clash XII in Minnesota in early January, a match won by St. Peter's Prep 35-28. However, the matches were split seven apiece, and Bound Brook was without multiple key contributors. No. 34 Buchanan journeys through its rivals in California's Central Section A week ago today, Buchanan hosted No. 36 Clovis West for a conference dual meet. Both teams won seven weight classes in the dual meet; however, the home-standing Bears had a 5-2 edge in pins to win by a 37-32 score. Results Tomorrow, the challenge is stark for Buchanan as they travel to No. 4 Clovis. While the Bears were the last in-state squad to defeat Clovis in a dual meet. However, that was more than 80 matches and seven years ago. Stillwater gets it all right for Sooner State supremacy in victory over Broken Arrow Two of the nation's best teams did battle last night in Oklahoma, as Stillwater traveled to take on Broken Arrow for the Tigers' wrestling program alumni night. However, the Pioneers were unkind guests, as two swing bout pins in the first half of the dual meet and a pair of overtime victories in the second half made the difference in a 37-23 victory. The match started at 138 pounds, as a pair of wrestlers with state championships under their belt took to the mat. Stillwater's Tristan Moran secured the pin over Shea Conley at the 3:09 mark. The Pioneers would stretch the lead to 9-0 with a 5-1 decision victory for No. 5 Joe Smith over Tanner Bailey in a battle of state champions. Broken Arrow would pick up their lone lead of the evening at 10-9 with a 25 second pin from Paden Bailey at 152 and a 9-0 major decision from Braxton Owens at 160. Consecutive pins for Stillwater would give them back the lead at 21-10. The first was from No. 5 Chandler Rogers at 170, while at 182, Jordan Dieringer earned the fall against state qualifier Isaiah Page. The host Tigers would counter with consecutive victories, a 6-4 decision at 195 from Quintonio Tolon and a pin at 220 from Steven Allen to cut the deficit to 21-19. With six matches to go, James Brower would catalyze the push to the finish for Stillwater with a 5-2 overtime victory over Trenton Lieurance at 285 pounds. No. 13 Andrew Nieman would further that push with an 11-0 major decision at 106. Broken Arrow would get their lone victory in this stretch at 113 pounds, with a 9-0 major decision from Tejuan Daniels. Stillwater's Jacob Fontanez would score a 9-7 overtime upset victory over No. 17 Markus Simmons at 120 pounds, then Benny Teegarden did the same in a 2-1 victory over two-time state champion Davion Jeffries at 126. To close out the dual meet, No. 13 Kaid Brock upended three-time state placer Zack Edwards 5-2 at 132 pounds. The two teams flip positions in this week's Fab 50, Stillwater is No. 11, while Broken Arrow is No. 12. No. 14 Lowell upends state champion Shamrocks in Assembly Dual A week ago today, No. 14 Lowell (Mich.) hosted No. 17 Detroit Catholic Central (Mich.) during an in-school dual meet. The Red Arrows jumped out to a 7-0 lead with a major decision from state champion Bailey Jack (130) and a decision from Jordan Hall (135). However, the Shamrocks pushed back with a 24 point barrage from five consecutive wins: a pin from Myles Amine (140), a technical fall from Malik Amine (145), a major decision from Tyler Morland (152), a decision from No. 12 at 152 Nick Bennett (160), and a pin from No. 12 Andrew Garcia (171). The next match would serve as the turning point for the dual meet with Max Dean taking on Junior National freestyle All-American Logan Marcicki. Marcicki pinned Dean when the two wrestled last year, and jumped out to an early lead in the bout at 189 pounds. However, Dean would rally back and get the pin at the 5:01 mark to cut the Lowell deficit to 24-13. That started a six match string of victories for the Red Arrows, which continued with Garrett Stehley's major decision over Nick Giese in a battle of state placers at 215 pounds. It was followed up by a 3-2 decision for No. 13 Josh Colegrove against Jimmy Russell, with both wrestlers bumped up a weight class to 285. Pins from Sam Russell (103) and Lucas Hall (112) would add to the winning streak, which finished state runner-up Zeth Dean's major decision at 119. Two-time state third placer Trevor Zdebski would close the dual meet with a decision victory over state placer Derek Krajewski at 125, but it was too little and too late for Detroit Catholic Central, who lost by a 36-27 final score. Southeast Polk flips script at Ed Winger Invitational Two weeks ago in a dual meet at Hilton Coliseum on the campus of Iowa State University. Bettendorf had won eight weight classes in a 37-27 victory over Southeast Polk. This past weekend in the Ed Winger Invitational hosted by Urbandale, the Rams changed the narrative as they used eleven placers to score a 32 point tournament victory (233.5-to-201.5). Three Southeast Polk wrestlers won weight class titles: Nolan Hellickson (120), Ethan Andersen (220), and Jake Marnin (285). Another trio finished in second place: Briar Dittmer (145), Brady Buchheit (152), and Deion Mikesell (195)). Rounding out the placing brigade were Keegan Shaw (132) and Aaron Meyer (138) with third place finishes; while Adam Brown (106), Jonah Williams (126), and Mason Kerr (170) finished fourth. Bettendorf countered with their usual suspects, five winning weight class titles and another placing third. However, only two additional Bulldog wrestlers were able to earn top six placement finishes -- Drew Sass (152) in sixth, and Michael Belanger (160) finishing fourth. Champions were Jack Wagner (106), Jacob Schwarm (113), No. 4 Fredy Stroker (132), No. 10 Logan Ryan (138), and Jacob Woodard (145); with Paul Glynn (120) taking third. Rounding out the weight class champions were Chris Walters (126) from Iowa City West, Zach Johnston (152) from Adel, Isaiah Patton (160) from Dowling Catholic, Hank Swalla (170) from Ames, Dakota Clausen (182) from Dallas Center-Grimes, and Colin Kreiter (195) from North Scott. Results Keystone State notes Cumberland Valley jumps into the Fab 50 at No. 37 after a 29-26 victory at No. 26 Nazareth. The squads split the weight classes at seven apiece. Even though the host Blue Eagles were without Sage Karam, who was competing in the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona, his impact on this dual meet's outcome would have been rather limited. The most obvious difference in this dual meet was that Cumberland Valley had the meet's only two pins. Results This weekend marks the district championship dual meet tournaments. Each of the state's districts in Class AAA and Class AA will determine qualifiers for next week's state dual meet championships. The WPIAL (i.e. Pittsburgh area) had a pair of Fab 50 teams in Class AAA, No. 9 Franklin Regional and No. 41 Greater Latrobe. Those two teams happened to meet this past week in the sub-section 1 championship, with Franklin Regional winning nine bouts in a 46-28 victory. The teams are very likely to meet in the WPIAL championship bout on Saturday night. Couple quick bits St. Johns beat Davison 36-27 in a dual meet this past Friday held at the University of Michigan. The Redwings won eight of the weight classes, including both matches that placed nationally ranked wrestlers against one another. In the 145 pound bout, it was a pair of nationally ranked 138s, as No. 3 Zac Hall defeated No. 13 Justin Oliver 7-5; while at 189 pounds, it was a pair of nationally ranked 182s, as No. 10 Angus Arthur beat No. 14 Jordan Cooks 6-1. St. Johns moved up eight spots in this week's Fab 50 to No. 28, while Davison dropped two spots to No. 30. No. 42 Kuna, Idaho won the Red Halverson Memorial Invitational at Minico. They scored 305 points to 212.5 for No. 45 Centennial, Idaho. However, Centennial was without nationally ranked Hayden Tuma and another key contributor in Logan Blackwood. Results Perry (Okla.) came away with the title at the Jay Hancock Memorial in Yukon over a pair of short-handed nationally ranked teams, as they scored 163.5 points. Runner-up Collinsville, ranked No. 49, was without three-time state champion Will Stelzen (145); while third place Edmond North, ranked No. 15, was without a pair of nationally ranked wrestlers in Paxton Rosen (106) and Joel Dixon (170/182/220). The nationally ranked teams scored 153 and 145.5 points respectively. Results

  9. FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Brown wrestling team jumped into the win column with a decisive 34-3 victory over Sacred Heart in dual meet action on Sunday. The Bears took all but one weight class, including a 12-0 major decision for freshman Steven Galiardo (Chicago, Ill.) at 149 and junior Ophir Bernstein's (Allen, Texas) 10th pin of the year in the 184-pound weight class. "I am excited for the results today," said Head Coach Todd Beckerman, who earned his first dual meet victory at the helm of the Bears. "We bounced back from a tough dual on Saturday and competed hard for seven minutes in every match. We will use this momentum heading into our Alumni and Family Weekend duals. Coach Lausier is building something special at Sacred Heart and I am excited to continue this border state rivalry." 10. GREELEY, Colo. -- Trey Andrews found himself at the end of the order against Sunday's PAC-12 opponent Cal Poly, an unfamiliar place for the 125-pouder. Nevertheless, he intended on ending the dual the same way he normally begins them: with a victory. Andrews' 6-2 decision against Cal Poly senior Britain Longmire gave Northern Colorado a 19-17 victory in exciting fashion. After Northern Colorado's Cole Briegel (Burlington) lost 6-4 in SV1, the Mustangs led 17-13 with two matches remaining. Henry Chirino (Brandon, Fla.) got three points back for the Bears with an 8-4 decision. It was then time for Andrews (Safford, Ariz.) to put it away. Andrews and Britain labored through a scoreless first period, and Andrews led 1-0 after the second via an escape. Andrews logged a two-point nearfall, an escape and a takedown in the final period to bring the Bears to victory. "I was very glad the dual came down to those two guys at the end," head coach Ben Cherrington said of Chirino and Andrews. "They've been very consistent all year long. Cal Poly's Devon Lotito pinned Sonny Espinoza (Pueblo) in 1:04 to start the dual in the 131-pound match, but Northern Colorado's Nick Adams (Monument) responded with a 6-4 decision against Jacob Leon to get three points back in the 141 match. Beau Roberts (Boise) then suffered a 15-6 major decision loss to Kyle Chene in the 149-pound bout. At 157 pounds, Michell Polkowske (LaJara) then gathered four points for the Bears thanks to a 15-1 major decision against Luke McDonald. Polkowske benefitted from three takedowns, two nearfalls, a reversal and a riding-time point. He logged 2:11 of riding time after one period, 3:32 after the second and ended with 5:09. Charlie McMartin (Boise) tied the match at 10 with a 7-2 decision against Travis Berridge, but the Mustangs retook the lead in the 174-pound match as Dominic Kastl recorded a15-5 major decision against Josh Van Tine (Broomfield). "It took a little while to figure the kid out, but when (McMartin) saw an opening, he nailed him," Cherrington said. "He built his lead, he was excited and I really believe that win carried us through the dual. The emotions were high and guys were excited after that." Trailing 14-10, Nick Bayer (Maple Valley, Wash.) earned at 10-3 decision against Sean Dougherty. Briegel lost the next bout, setting the stage for Chirino and Andrews. "We have one more tough PAC-12 dual next Friday at Boise and then we move into our conference schedule," Cherrington said. "From here on out, every match is going to be tough. Our conference has grown immensely, and every team has gotten better, and we're one of those teams. It's my hope that these guys take some belief from these last two matches, winning two duals against PAC-12 schools. That's a big deal for us." The Bears will face the Broncos of Boise State -- Cherrington's alma mater -- at 7 p.m. Friday in Boise. Results: 133 -- Devon Lotito (CP) pinned Sonny Espinoza (NC) 1:04 141 -- Nick Adams (NC) dec. Army clinched the match following the 197 pound bout, thanks to Barnes' 9-4 decision over Frank Mattiace. Penn took a victory in the heavyweight bout to make the final tally 21-13. Army fell into a 10-0 hole against Drexel after the Dragons won by forfeit at 125 and took a major decision in the 133 pound bout. Rauenzahn prevailed over Drexel's David Pearce to cut the visitors' deficit to seven, but the Dragons responded with a decision of their own in the 149 pound match to go back up by 10. Hancock bettered Austin Sommer at 157 before Smith and Harvey each posted major decisions to give the Black Knights a 14-13 advantage with three matches remaining. Senior Ryan Tompkins (184) kept Army's momentum rolling with a 6-2 victory over Alex DeCiantis, and Barnes won a 4-0 decision in a crucial 197 pound match to give the visitors an insurmountable 20-13 lead. No. 9 Brandon Palik recorded a fall in the 285 match, but the six points were only enough to cut Drexel's deficit to one. 12. Kent, Ohio -- The Central Michigan wrestling program improved to 4-2 in Mid-American Conference competition with a convincing victory at rival Kent State Sunday afternoon, 21-12. The Chippewas (8-6, 4-2 MAC) built an early 9-0 lead behind their trio of ranked lightweights and were awarded bonus points on an injury default by No. 6 Ian Miller at 157 pounds to extend the lead to 15-3. Redshirt freshman No. 12 Corey Keener opened the dual with a 8-3 decision over Alfredo Grey behind three takedowns and riding time, two of which came in the second period where he took control of the match. Senior Joe Roth, ranked No. 16 at 133 pounds by InterMat, extended the lead with a 3-1 decision over Mack McGuire and it was a 9-0 CMU advantage after No. 9 Zach Horan defeated Tyler Small by decision, 5-1. After a scoreless first period, Horan started the second on bottom and reversed Small before turning him to his back for a three-point nearfall. Small was able to earn an escape point in the third, but Horan's lead was too much to overcome. The Golden Flashes looked to be closing the gap as Mike DePalma earned a decision over senior Scott Mattingly at 149 and Miller held a 5-2 lead over Smith, but Miller was unable to continue the match at the 5:31 mark due to an injury, awarding the Chippewas six bonus points. Redshirt freshman Nick Becker extended the lead to 18-3 with a decision over Tyler Buckwalter at 165 pounds, 5-1, and No. 8 Mike Ottinger earned his third-straight one-point victory over Caleb Marsh, 2-1. Ottinger held 1-0 lead after the second period and was able to prevent Marsh from escaping long enough to accumulate the necessary riding time to secure the victory and seal the match for the Maroon and Gold. CMU is back on the road next Sunday, Feb. 2 when it travels to take on MAC affiliate Old Dominion. Results: 125: No. 12 Corey Keener (CMU) dec. 13. ITHACA, N.Y. – The Cornell wrestling team remained unbeaten in dual meet competition with a strong 29-9 victory over Rutgers in front of more than 2,800 fans on Sunday afternoon at Newman Arena. The Big Red improved to 7-0 on the season, while the Scarlet Knights fell to 9-4. In front of a crowd of 2,833 fans there to watch two of the EIWA's best while raising funds for Hospicare of Ithaca, the Big Red scored two pins and a couple major decision victories while losing two of its three matches in overtime by a total of four points. The dual win was Cornell's 31st straight against EIWA opponents and its 47th consecutive against unranked teams. Sophomore Nahshon Garrett opened the dual with a dominant fall over Sean McCabe of Rutgers. Garrett's 13th straight win was locked down with Garrett leading 15-3 late in the third as he was able to take McCabe down to his back and secure the pin to give the home team an early 6-0 team lead. Rutgers got on the board at 133 as Vinnie Dellefave captured a disputed 2-1 overtime win over No. 12 Mark Grey after the freshman was hit for a penalty point in overtime for an illegal hold. That handed the Scarlet Knight grappler the upset after each wrestler earned escapes during regulation to send the match into sudden victory. Senior Mike Nevinger ran out to a 5-0 first period lead, escaped a dangerous spot that allowed Rutgers' Tyson Dippery a two-point nearfall in the second and claimed a pair of three-point nearfalls in the third en route to a strong 13-2 major. With a 10-3 Big Red lead, Rutgers brought the match as close as it would get with its second win, a toss-up match at 149 pounds between Conner David and Ken Theobald. Theobald's early first period takedown was the difference, and though David was able to ride out the Rutgers' wrestler in the third, he couldn't turn him to even the match as the Scarlet Knights took a 3-1 victory to get within 10-6 in the dual. Eighth-ranked Brian Realbuto dominated Anthony Perotti at 157 pounds, earning a pair of first period takedowns before riding his opponent out in the third for a 6-1 triumph. Realbuto logged nearly three minutes in riding time to send the home team into halftime with a 13-6 lead. The intermission saw Cornell honor two with induction into the Hall of Distinguished Wrestling Alumni, as John Keib '91 and Jim Stanec '01 were both celebrated. The Big Red ran away with the dual after halftime, winning the first four matches after the break starting with Dylan Palacio's 10-4 victory over Nick Visicaro at 165 pounds. The freshman registered the only four takedowns in the match and used 2:27 of ride time for the decision. In arguably the most exciting match of the day, Duke Pickett won a 4-2 overtime thriller against Phillip Bakuckas. Going into the third period scoreless, Pickett escaped 10 seconds into the third to take a 1-0 lead. Bakuckas was able to earn a takedown with two seconds left in regulation, but Pickett was able to kick his way out for an escape at the buzzer to send it to overtime as the crowd went crazy. Both wrestlers took shots in the sudden victory session, but it was Pickett who earned a takedown 18 seconds before the ride-outs began for the 4-2 decision. Gabe Dean didn't need any extra time, as he dominated fellow freshman Anthony Messner from the opening whistle, earning the first of his four first period takedowns just 14 seconds in. After Messner chose down to open the second, Dean was able to turn him successfully three times, twice for three points and another for two points to build a 16-4 lead. The fourth turn earned yet another five count, but ended with Dean repositioning and getting Messner's shoulders square for the pin at 4:20 to seal the dual win for the Big Red at 26-6 with two matches remaining. At 197 pounds, Jace Bennett controlled Hayden Hrymack on his way to an 11-2 major decision win. Bennett earned two takedowns and three escapes in the first five minutes to build a 7-2 lead, then turned Hrymack in the third for a three-point nearfall and earned a ride time point to close out the Big Red's team scoring. Rutgers and No. 18 Billy Smith was able to escape its own upset bid at heavyweight with a 3-2 overtime triumph over Jacob Aiken-Phillips. Both wrestlers earned escapes in regulation to go into sudden victory tied 1-1. After that resulted in no scoring, Aiken-Phillips chose down during the first ride-out period and escaped 21 seconds in. Smith escaped 10 seconds into the second ride-out period and earned a penalty point when Aiken-Phillips was called for locking hands. The Big Red junior couldn't muster a match-winning takedown in the final 20 seconds as the Scarlet Knights pulled within 29-9. Cornell will continue Ivy League competition when it visits Penn (1 p.m.) and Princeton (6 p.m.) on Saturday, Feb. 1. Wisconsin defeated Indiana, 23-12, Friday night to pick up a pair of conference road victories over the weekend. “Those were two big wins on the road,” said UW assistant coach Trevor Brandvold. “We are getting better every match and that has been good to see.” No. 10 Ryan Taylor and No. 6 Tyler Graff once again got the Badgers off to a strong start and each recorded bonus-point victories. Taylor won by major decision, 21-8, over Garrison White at 125 lbs., while Graff recorded a four-point technical fall over Dominick Malone in 1:13. Taylor’s 21 points were the second-highest mark he has recorded in a match this season while Graff earned his eighth technical fall victory of the year. Jesse Thielke then recorded the biggest win for the Badgers on the day. He battled in back-and-forth fashion with Pasquale Greco at 141 lbs., and ultimately came away with the victory, 5-4. Greco was penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct, resulting in the loss of a point for the Wildcats and Thielke’s win gave the Badgers a commanding 11-0 lead. “Jesse Thielke had a big win for us today,” continued Brandvold. “We are getting better every time we step on the mat.” After TJ Ruschell fell by major decision at 149 lbs., to Northwestern’s Jason Tsirtsis by a score of 13-2, No. 7 Isaac Jordan grabbed his 21st win of the season with a 6-3 decision over Ben Sullivan at 157 lbs. Jordan’s win comes two days after recording his first victory over a top-5 opponent this season. Following Frank Cousins’ 4-0 loss to No. 9 Pierce Harger at 165 lbs., Scott Liegel turned in an impressive performance by pinning Robert Coukos in 1:44. The fall was Liegel’s third of the season and it gave the Badgers a 20-7 lead. Senior Jackson Hein recorded UW’s last victory of the day by defeating Jacob Berkowitz by decision, 8-3, at 184 lbs. With the win, Hein improves to 10-3 on the season. Northwestern then rattled off a pair of wins with ranked wrestlers to close out the match. At 197 lbs., No. 17 Alex Polizzi pinned Timmy McCall in 5:57 while No. 4 Michael McMullan won by decision over No. 10 Connor Medbery, 4-3. “Connor (Medbery) had a great heavyweight match,” concluded Brandvold. “That kid was in the national finals last year and Connor lost by a point. I like that. Having Jackson (Hein) back was big also. Overall it was a good weekend.” The Badgers return home next Sunday when to host North Dakota State. The match is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start at the UW Field House. Results: 125 #10 Ryan Taylor (WIS)maj. dec. 18. West Lafayette, Ind. -- The No. 10 Nebraska wrestling team (10-1, 4-1 Big Ten) won eight matches against No. 21 Purdue on Sunday afternoon to post a 28-9 victory over the Boilermakers. Senior 133-pounder Shawn Nagel pinned No. 14 Cashe Quiroga in the fifth match of the night, as he was one of two Huskers to earn bonus points against Purdue. Robert Kokesh (174) added a major decision in the final bout of the afternoon. Nagel’s fall came in 3:53 as he improves to 9-5 on the season. The dual started at 184 pounds, where redshirt freshman TJ Dudley notched a 5-1 decision over Purdue’s Tanner Lynde. Dudley earned a takedown in the opening stanza before riding out Lynde in the second period. Dudley started the third period in the down position and earned a reversal before tacking on a point for riding time. Nebraska suffered a loss at 197 pounds as No. 20 Caleb Kolb fell by a 3-1 decision to No. 15 Braden Atwood, but the Huskers picked up victories at heavyweight and 125 pounds before Nagel’s pin. At heavyweight, Collin Jensen battled Alex White to a scoreless first period before the Husker redshirt freshman escaped in the second and added a takedown. He gave up an escape in the final period but earned a riding time point to cap the match. No. 9 Tim Lambert (125) managed a 3-0 decision over Camden Eppert in the following match to give Nebraska a 9-3 lead. Lambert, a redshirt freshman, earned a first-period takedown before riding out Eppert in the second period and earning an escape in the third stanza. After Nagel’s fall, Nebraska’s Colton McCrystal was pinned by Danny Sabatello in 6:53 at 141 pounds. Clinging to a 15-9 lead, the Huskers won the final four matches in convincing fashion, outscoring the Boilermakers 40-11 during that stretch. At 149 pounds, junior Jake Sueflohn prevailed over Brandon Nelsen by an 11-4 margin before top-ranked 157-pounder James Green defeated Alex Griffin by the same score in the following match. Sueflohn earned four takedowns in his match, three of which occurred in the third period. He improves to 24-3 on the season. Green managed three takedowns against Griffin and earned two reversals from the down position. Green, a junior, continues his undefeated run with a 24-0 record following his victories this weekend. At 165 pounds, sophomore Austin Wilson earned a 6-0 triumph over Chad Welch. After a scoreless first period between the pair, Wilson earned near fall points in the second period. In the third period, Wilson earned an escape, takedown and riding time point for the final margin. He completed a perfect 2-0 weekend without giving up any points. Reigning All-American Kokesh (174) capped the Husker victory with 12-3 triumph over Patrick Kissel. Kokesh is 26-1 this season and improves to 11-0 in duals. Next weekend, the Huskers travel to Champaign, Ill., to grapple against Illinois on Saturday. The dual is slated to start at 4 p.m. CT, and will be televised on the Big Ten Network. 19. CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- Senior 149-pound Raymond Borja’s (Virginia Beach, Va.) major decision with one bout remaining proved to be the deciding factor as the Navy wrestling team (3-2) scored a 19-18 victory over North Carolina (5-7) Saturday afternoon in Chapel Hill. The Mids have now won 11 of the last 12 meetings against the Tar Heels, including five of the last six in Chapel Hill. With the match deadlocked at 15 with two bouts remaining, Borja stepped to the mat where he met UNC redshirt sophomore Christian Barber. Borja took a 7-1 lead after the opening period, but Barber, who came into the match with a 23-6 overall record and a 7-1 dual mark, trimmed the lead to 7-4 heading into the final period. Borja, though, earned the escape to start the third and and it propelled him to a pair of takedowns and a pair of near falls en route to an 18-5 major decision. With a 19-15 lead, Navy sent senior Zach Johnson (Memphis, Tenn.) onto the mat for the final bout of the afternoon. Johnson, however, was unable to get anything going, but was able to fight off any chance of a near fall by UNC’s Jake Crawford who desperately needed the extra point victory. Crawford picked up the 6-0 win, but it wasn’t enough as the Tar Heels surrendered the 19-18 victory to Navy. “Ray came up huge for us,” said Navy interim head coach Brian Antonelli. “He wrestled for the team knowing he needed to get extra points. That’s what teammates do. I couldn’t be more proud of his effort and the message he sent.” Navy opened the match with its two best wrestlers on the mat early. Returning NCAA qualifier Peyton Walsh (Glen Allen, Va.) beat Carolina’s John Michael Staudenmayer for a second consecutive year in dual action with a 4-1 decision at 165 pounds. Walsh is now 4-0 in dual meets this season and 13-4 over his career. “Peyton and Staudenmayer have met a number of times. He (Staudenmayer) is a tough wrestler, but Peyton, like he has all year, just grinds out the close matches.” Fifteenth-ranked Mathew Miller (Edgewood, Md.) gave Navy a 9-0 advantage with his pin against Tar Heels redshirt freshman Scott Marmoll. Miller was in command of the match from the beginning, taking Marmoll to the mat and then acquiring a pair of near falls for an 8-0 lead after the first period before getting the pin in the second period. For Miller, it was was his sixth win by fall this season and 16th of his career. UNC briefly stopped Navy’s momentum with a 10-5 victory by junior Alex Utley at 184 pounds. He used a takedown and a near fall late in the second period to catapult him to the win over Navy sophomore William Miller (Chinook, Mont.) who was making his first collegiate dual meet appearance. Navy, though, extended its lead to 15-3 behind wins at 197 and 285 pounds by Paul Rands (Cary, Ill.) and Colynn Cook (Murrysville, Pa.), respectively. Rands scored a takedown against Frank Abbondanza just 30 seconds into the match and never looked back as he claimed a 9-2 victory. At 3-1 in dual action this winter, it’s the most dual victories he has had during his career (including at Northwestern his freshman year). Meanwhile, Cook had a strong second period where he used a pair of takedowns and an escape to take a 5-2 lead. He added riding time to post a 6-3 decision and snap a three-match losing streak. “Cook and Rands did a nice job today,” added Antonelli. “Colynn continues to improve each match. He was able to contol the tie-up and got some points. “Rands is putting it together. I think he’s staying composed and focused on getting points. Since the tournament cycle ended, he seems to have gotten into a groove.” While Navy held a comfortable 15-3 lead midway through the match, North Carolina rallied behind its strength in the lightweights and won thre in a row to tie the match. Navy rookie Brenden Campbell (New Castle, Ind.) was the agressor early in his match against 20th-ranked Nathan Kraisser at 125 pounds, but a short letdown opened a window for Kraisser to take Campbell to the mat and pick up the fall at 2:09. “Brenden took the fight to Kraisser, but I think he relazed a little and reset just for a second and he pounced on him. I applaud his effort, but it’s a lesson learned that you can’t let down against a talented wrestler like him (Kraisser).” Freshman Troy Heilmann scored a 5-0 victory over Navy 133-pound junior Colton Rasche (Plano, Ill.) who has struggled with an injury as of late and in turn so, too, has his record. Rasche has dropped four of his last five matches. Carolina continued the upperhand at 141 pounds where sixth-ranked Evan Henderson dealt Navy senior Joe Locksmith (Kissimmee, Fla.) a 4-0 loss to knot the match at 15. The Mids return to action next Saturday when they travel to New London, Conn. in hopes of adding to their list of All-Academy Championship titles. The 20th edition of the All-Academy Championship features Air Force, Army, The Citadel, Coast Guard, the Merchant Marine Academy, Navy, Norwich and VMI. Action will begin at 10:00 am with the finals streamed live beginning at 4:00 pm. 20. BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Old Dominion University wrestling team (5-8, 1-2) resumed Mid-American Conference play tonight with a 21-10 win on the road against the University of Buffalo. The win is the first ever MAC victory in Old Dominion history. ODU picked up victories tonight from Michael Hayes (133), Alexander Richardson (149), Tristan Warner (157), Billy Curling (174), Jack Dechow (184), Kevin Beazley (197) and Jake Henderson (Heavyweight). “We had a good scrap with Buffalo tonight,” said ODU head coach Steve Martin. “Our guys fought hard and executed their attacks as well as their style. It was a good simulation for the MAC tournament as we had back-to-back competition two days in a row. Michael Hayes, Lenny Richardson, Tristan Warner, Billy Curling and Jack Dechow completed the weekend with back-to-back victories. Kevin Beazley defeated a tough opponent and Jake Henderson wrestled well at Heavyweight. Chris Mecate had an unusual loss as he got caught in a 5-point hold off of his own leg attack. This weekend gives us several technical areas that we need to improve in. We look forward to being at home and competing against MAC opponents NIU and Central Michigan next weekend.” At 174 pounds, Curling turned the match in ODU’s favor with a 7-4 decision victory over Rrok Ndokaj. Dechow (184) won by a 3-1 overtime decision, which gave the Monarchs a 15-10 lead. Beazley’s (197) 7-3 decision win gave ODU enough team points to secure the team victory. The night started at 125 pounds where Buddy Scarborough fell by a 13-5 major decision. Results: 125- Mike Soria (BUF) won by maj. dec. over Buddy Scarborough (ODU), 13-5. 21. DeKALB, Ill. -- A young Mizzou Wrestling program was forced to quickly forget about their first dual loss of the season Friday night, and did so by way of a 31-0 shutout victory versus MAC-foe Northern Illinois on Saturday afternoon. All 10 Tigers to touch the mat emerged victorious, including a major decision victory by sophomore Cody Johnston in his first career start. Missouri Head Coach Brian Smith gave Johnston the nod at 184 pounds Saturday afternoon, and the Tiger sophomore didn't disappoint. Johnston was a scoring machine early on, tallying three takedowns and two nearfalls en route to a 13-3 major decision over Caleb Busson, the only bonus point victory on the day. It was his first major decision of the season, and his 11th win in bonus point territory. Johnston was the 18th grappler to make a dual start for the Tigers in six dual meets. With five freshmen in Mizzou's starting lineup, many young Tigers are starting to grow up quickly, especially after the adversity they faced Friday night in Northern Iowa. Freshman Joey Lavallee went 2-0 on the road trip thanks in large part to a takedown with 11 seconds remaining at 157 pounds. Northern Illinois' Andrew Morse led 3-2 with riding time locked up, and Lavallee found a way to wrap him up with just seconds left. The bout went to overtime, where Lavallee only needed 10 more seconds for a takedown in sudden victory. "We were knocked down last night by a really good team. I know as a young team they were questioning who we were as a team, and they responded the right way," said Smith following his program's second shutout in two weeks. "I mean, we had (Joey) Lavallee down 3-0 and then coming back to tie it with under 30 seconds to go, and then win it in overtime. And Cody Johnston didn't even know he was wrestling until yesterday, and stepped up big for us, not just by winning but getting bonus points as well. We had the right attitude and right responses to the adversity we faced this weekend. I really enjoy this team, and the character and fight they bring, which we saw today." Heavyweight Devin Mellon closed out Saturday's matinee dual with a 2-1 overtime victory in what was a big matchup with possible implications for the MAC Conference Championships in March. Mellon and NIU's Jared Torrence traded escapes in the first seven minutes to send the bout to overtime tied at one-a-piece. Mellon and Torrence would go to a tiebreaker, where Mellon would escape and then proceed to keep Torrence from getting his own escape for the win. Mellon, tabbed No. 2 at heavyweight in the conference, backed up his ranking by topping Torrence, ranked No. 3 in the MAC. The team doesn't slow down for the next couple of weekend's, with two more top-10 matchups coming next weekend when Mizzou heads back on the road for duals against No. 6 Oklahoma and No. 9 Oklahoma State. The squad will then host Buffalo and Eastern Michigan at the Hearnes Center on Feb. 7 and Feb. 8 in what will be the first action at the Hearnes Center for the Tigers this year. Mizzou's matchup on Feb. 7 versus Buffalo will be a part of Mizzou Athletics' annual Beauty and the Beast event, where both Mizzou Wrestling and Mizzou's Gymnastics team compete simultaneously. Tickets for the event are on sale now at MUTigers.com/tickets. Stay tuned with everything Tiger Style wrestling by following the program on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. 22. ITHACA, N.Y. -- Freshman Mark Grey and senior Mike Nevinger earned consecutive pins to help Cornell build a 16-0 lead after three matches and the Big Red swept through the lineup to knock off Brown 38-0 on Saturday afternoon at Friedman Wrestling Center. The Big Red improved to 6-0 on the season and won its 60th consecutive Ivy League match dating back to 2002. The Bears slipped to 0-6 on the year. Moita earned a surprising takedown 10 seconds into the match and nearly added another less than 30 seconds later before the two went out of bounds, but Garrett took the lead with a takedown of his own midway through the period. A locked hands call on Garrett during the ride tied it at 3-3, but the sophomore rode him out to secure more than a minute. After choosing down to start the second, Garrett escaped nearly immediately and quickly spun behind him to go up 7-3 after a second stalling call on Moita gave him a penalty point. He continued to push the pace and earned another takedown to extend the lead heading into the third. Garrett tilted him to his back right away for a two-point nearfall, then after cutting Moita loose, was able to take him down quick to secure the major decision and a 14-5 victory. After missing more than a month due to injury, Grey was able to light up the Friedman crowd with a pin in his return. The rookie beat the clock in the second, turning Brown's Anthony Finocchiaro to the back with a cradle and squaring the shoulders on the mat with one second left to add six points to Cornell's total. Mike Nevinger needed three minutes less than Grey, earning the fall just 1:45 into his match with Jack Twomey-Kozak. After a quiet first minute between the two, Nevinger caught the rookie in a bad position and earned the fall after nearly 30 seconds of jostling with Twomey-Kozak on his back trying to avoid the pin. With a 16-0 team lead, senior Conner David was able to earn a sudden victory decision over Cortlandt Choate. After a 2-2 tie after seven minutes thanks to a last-second escape in the third by David to knot the match, the senior was able to take the 149-pound match with a double leg takedown of Choate right before the two would head into the ride-out periods. Realbuto controlled the 157-pound bout over Justin Staudenmayer, earning a 5-0 lead after the first period with a takedown and a three-point nearfall en route to a 9-0 major to make it 19-0 for the Big Red. Dylan Palacio made it six straight wins in the dual after the intermission, getting a first period takedown to take an early lead. A Phillip Marano escape in the second sent the match into the third tied 2-2, but with Palacio having a ride time advantage of 1:35. The freshman added a pair of takedowns in the third to clinch the 7-3 decision. At 174 pounds, Duke Pickett was able to scratch a 4-2 triumph over Ricky McDonald. A first period takedown proved to be the difference in the win as Pickett improved to 12-4 on the season and 3-2 in dual meet competition. The feature match of the day was at 184 pounds with third-ranked Gabe Dean meeting No. 10 Ophir Bernstein, with the rookie escaping with a 3-2 decision. It was Dean's second win of the year against Bernstein, as the two met earlier in the year in Las Vegas with the rookie taking a 4-1 win. After a scoreless first period where both wrestlers were able to defend against strong shots, Dean opened the scoring with an escape 25 seconds into the second. Bernstein was able to reverse Dean early in the third to take a 2-1 lead, but the freshman was able to reverse it back to make it 3-2 and then rode out the junior for the win. Jace Bennett took the 197-pound bout over Augustus Marker, 10-5, to give Cornell a 35-0 victory. The two were tied at 4-4 after a high-scoring first period that featured dual reversals, though Bennett also had 1:35 in ride time. The junior's second period escape made it 5-4 for the Big Red and he was able to earn a takedown and a two-point nearfall at the buzzer when Marker took a desperation shot that went badly. Cornell completed the dual sweep at heavyweight with Jacob Aiken-Phillips controlling Ryder Cavey for a 6-0 decision. Aiken-Phillips was able to earn a first period takedown and two nearfall points to go up 4-0. A second period escape and ride time closed out the 38-0 team victory. The Big Red will be back in action against Rutgers tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Newman Arena. The dual will also serve as a fundraiser for Hospicare of Ithaca. 23. EDINBORO, Pa. -- Edinboro clinched the Eastern Wrestling League regular season crown on Saturday night with a 29-10 victory over Bloomsburg at McComb Fieldhouse. The Fighting Scots wrapped up EWL competition with a perfect 5-0 record while winning for the second straight night, and improved to 7-3 overall. Bloomsburg is now 5-6 overall and 1-2 in EWL action. The Fighting Scots followed their usual pattern of jumping out to a big lead, as they won the first five matches, four by bonus points. That gave them a 23-0 lead. Bloomsburg would follow with a pair of decisions at 165 and 174 lbs. to close the gap to 23-6, but Edinboro would win two of the final three matches. Ernest James capped the evening with his first win in four tries against Bloomsburg's Justin Grant. James came in ranked 16th by Amateur Wrestling News and 19th by InterMat, while Grant was ranked 14th by Amateur Wrestling News. James would prevail with a 2-1 decision, the same score that Grant beat James by in the PSAC finals in December. Following a scoreless first period, James rode out Grant in the second period just 25 seconds remained. The fifth-year senior then registered his own escape at 1:38 to knot the score at 1-1. He would win thanks to the 1:13 in riding time. James is now 20-5 while Grant fell to 22-5. The night got underway with a 4-0 decision by Kory Mines, ranked 16th by Amateur Wrestling News and 19th by InterMat, over Sean Boylan at 125 lbs. Mines took a 1-0 lead with a quick escape in the second period, then picked up two near fall points at 1:`10 of the third period, along with owning a 1:57 advantage in riding time. He improved to 18-6. A.J. Schopp followed with a 16-0 technical fall over Nick Wilcox (18-9) at 133 lbs. as the two continued their long rivalry. Ranked second, Schopp led just 2-0 after one period, but he built the margin to 7-0 after two periods with two tilts. He registered his second takedown of the bout just over thirty seconds into the third period, and would tilt Wilcox two more times for a total of six points. Schopp is now 24-1 and boosted his career ledger to 96-12. Top-ranked Mitchell Port made it 14-0 with the only fall of the evening. He boosted his record to 20-0 with the pin of Elliot Zackoski at 3:54. He had three takedowns in the first period alone with a reversal early in the second period ultimately leading to the fall. After taking last night off against Cleveland State, Dave Habat turned in a strong showing at 149 lbs., winning by technical fall over Derek Goodwin, 18-2 at 4:26. Habit held a 9-2 lead after one period courtesy of three takedowns and three back points. He would add an escape and takedown, followed by a pair of three near fall tilts to end the match. Ranked 16th by InterMat and 17th by Amateur Wrestling News, Habat is now 20-4. 24. CORVALLIS, Ore. -- The No. 6 Oklahoma wrestling team (8-1 overall, 2-0 Big 12) escaped with a 20-18 win over No. 24 Oregon State (7-5 overall, 2-0 Pac-12) Saturday afternoon inside Gill Coliseum. Entering the final match at 197 pounds between No. 3 Travis Rutt and No. 13 Taylor Meeks, the Sooners trailed 18-17. Rutt secured a 7-3 decision over the junior to give OU the victory. "Oregon State is a very good team. They had a good plan against us and are very well coached," OU head coach Mark Cody said. "Any time you can give up two pins against a team of that caliber and still come up with a win, it's fortunate. As a team we still have a lot of work to do in preparing our guys for what's to come in the next couple of months." The dual began with the heavyweight division, and the Sooners suffered losses in the first two matches and fell behind 9-0 before Cody Brewer added a 13-4 major decision of Drew Van Anrooy to cut into Oregon State’s lead. 25. DALTON, Ga. -- Peter Anguiano of Grand Canyon took control early in the heavyweight match, and with the Collegiate Cup title on the line, dominated the rest of the way as Grand Canyon rallied in the final three weights to get past Shorter, 23-19. The win earns the Lopes the title in the first leg of the NCWA Championship Series, along with 24 team points that will carry over to the start of the NCWA Championships in March. Anguiano closed his big evening by pulling away from Shorter’s Marlen Morgan with a four-point second period and won, 11-4, to end the see-saw title match that had three lead changes and a tie after 10 bouts. Anguiano opened the night by pinning the top-ranked heavyweight, Ian Jones of Apprentice, in the first period of their semifinal match. The championship was tied 19-19 following the 235-pound match, where third-ranked Andrew Ewers’ won over GCU’s Nate Zobott, 9-4. Shorter led, 16-15, after Shorter’s Terrence Smith defended his top-ranking at 184 pounds with an 8-7 win over GCU’s Austin Gaun, ranked eighth. But Marcus Haughian came right back with an 8-0 major decision at 197 pounds to put GCU ahead, 19-16. GCU took control early in the match with wins in three of the first four matches. Zach Zehner won with a first-period pin at 141, and Lino Estrada put the Lopes on the board with a 12-2 major decision over Jesse Jones at 133. Mike Hamel, an NCAA Division II All-American last year, won by technical fall (16-1) at 149 to give GCU a three-match win streak and a 15-6 lead midway through the match. Shorter climbed back beginning at 157 pounds, where the Hawks’ second-ranked Kannon Madden beat GCU’s top-ranked Chayse Jackson, 6-3. Madden’s win was the last of a string of upsets where Shorter wrestlers defeated higher-ranked opponents from the NCWA rankings. Wally Figaro then decisioned Juan Carlos Maynes, and Dalton Lane majored Austin Trujillo, 11-3, to bring Shorter to within 15-13. In the opening match of the championship, Benjamin Smith edged AJ Salazar, 12-10. Lane should ascend to the top spot of the 174 rankings after beating Liberty’s top-ranked Keyshaun Ward in the semifinals, 9-0, along with other multiple changes sparked by Shorter’s and GCU results. Following Lane’s upset in the semi’s, the next match offered a 1-vs-2 match as well and Shorter again pulled out the win as top-ranked Terrence Smith edged Liberty’s Royal Brettrager, 8-5. The two wins helped Shorter take the lead, but the match still came down to heavyweight again, and the Hawks’ Marlen Morgan took down Zachary Newton in overtime for a 3-1 win to send Shorter into the final. GCU won a runaway over Apprentice, 54-0, in the other semifinal. Shorter will earn 23 team points toward the NCWA Championships based on its runner-up finish, with Liberty taking 22 points and Apprentice 21 with their top-four finishes. Every team that competed at the Collegiate Cup earned team points toward the championship based on the weighted scale. Central Florida took fifth place with a 24-19 win over Grand Valley State, and the rest of the top 10 was Mott Community College (Mich.) in seventh, followed by Middle Tennessee State, South Florida and Mercer. No team has repeated as champion in the Collegiate Cup’s six-year history. Previous winners are Grand Valley State (2009), Marion Military Institute (2010), California Baptist (2011), Liberty (2012) and Lindenwood-St. Charles (2013). Grand Canyon, in the first year of its provisional NCAA membership, is expected to return to defend its title next year. Complete boxscores for each match can be found at www.ncwa.net/results.
