The eight co-authors of the 2019 book Supporting Gender Diversity in Early Childhood Classrooms argue that too little emphasis is given to gender identity in the years before age 6, when educators have “a chance to prime all parents for supporting their children’s gender health” and “the opportunity to educate all children about gender diversity and introduce them to role models of a variety of genders.” But a rival faction has reacted by insisting, at the other extreme, that instruction involving gender identity has no place at all in early-childhood education. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed a law in March that prohibits public schools from presenting any instruction on gender identity until at least the fourth grade. According to NPR, at least a dozen other states are considering similar legislation. The issue could be a political winner for the Republicans who are pushing it. A recent survey sponsored by the American Federation of Teachers finds that 58 percent of likely voters in battleground states disapprove of the way students are taught about “sexual preference and gender identity.” Asked to explain why, 31 percent said “students are too young for [the] material,” while 27 percent said parents are responsible for teaching it. mspart

It is mandatory in WA state. They start in K-5. When the debate was going on in the legislature, they had to stop televising (service is like a C-span but for the state) the proceedings because the content was too graphic as they were going through what would be taught. mspart

Rasta, I appreciate your question. I think you misunderstood what I wrote. I meant to convey that it is the Progressives that have the re-education camp. If that didn't come across correctly I apologize. I was just giving examples of behavior on the progressive side that the folks on the far right would be fighting against. I don't think generally that patriotism, core ethical values, and religion are what is wrong with America or could be wrong with America. Generally speaking, I see progressives as being against these things. So I hit on them for this, because I think these things are some of the primary reasons why America is great. mspart

I don't disagree with this. But there is no similar differentiation that I know of between conservative and ???. But there certainly is a contingent that is opposed to the progressives' agenda. But in my opinion, everyone should be against the progressives' agenda. It progresses nothing. It takes us back to earlier times of discrimination and reduction of rights and takes us into fantasyland saying that men can menstruate and have babies, and women can impregnate each other. Menstruating people, lactating people, pregnant people. These are things that women do. Men pretending to be women do not do these things. Why are we rearranging our language for a lunatic fringe? But this is part and parcel of the progressive agenda. If you don't believe in these things, they have suggested re-education camps for you. mspart
