  1. The op quite literally frames the idea of Okie State talking to anybody as ridiculous.
  2. If you're trying to tell me that Iowa City is not a bustling metropolis designed to appeal to young people...that seems about right. Iowa definitely doesn't recruit based on locale, I would guess it's based on history of success combined with insane atmosphere. If I had been good enough and had the option, I definitely would have wanted to wrestle for Iowa with those crowds...of coruse when I would have gone would have been the Zalesky years, so maybe....
  3. I've said this before, but just as an FYI, I've never set foot in the state of Iowa. Not a single toe. I was born in Brooklyn, NY, and lived there for awhile, but have spent most of my life in Florida. I think I just assumed Colorado was mountainous everywhere, but that trip to Greeley....
  4. I usually take a longer forum break after NCAAs and trials, but this topic dragged me back in, lol.
  5. So because one guy surpassed him, it's not developmental win? WTF are you talking about? Desanto developed TREMENDOUSLY at Iowa, he just never won a title and one guy developed even more. Sucks, but it happens. The idea that the only guys who develop places are the ones who win national title denigrates literally 99.99% of the wrestlers in collegiate history.
  6. I am purposely trying to be as vague as I can. I understand that's kind of a dick move. But I am very much NOT saying the person actually transferred. He might have. Might not.
  7. Your specific comment doesn't apply in this scenario. Maybe you could fairly argue that the guys in the Iowa room break down after 5 years, but in the first two? Not really.
  8. I would agree that their coaching in some specific areas is leaving much to be desired, specifically the scrambling.
  9. Not sure I follow. The only limitation I am placing on what I'm saying is that it was not an Iowa or Penn State wrestler I'm discussing.
  10. I didn't say the person actually transferred anywhere. It could have been what was required to stay, also. Like I said, purposely vague.
  11. If it's true, it's not far off what I heard was paid for one season for one of this past year's NCAA finalist. The athlete was not at Iowa or PSU. I heard the number from a coach on the athletes staff, so it seems pretty reputable. I'm trying not to out anybody since it's not my news, nor my role, so I'm purposely keeping it vague.
  12. Yes, but back up about 100 miles!
  13. Unfortunate but fair description of Greeley. I cannot stress enough how much my trip to Greeley shook my faith in my belief that i knew what the rest of the country looked like.
  14. Oh, never mind, you're just here to hate and make logically inconsistent statements to get to a predetermined point. "Austin Desanto didn't develop at Iowa" is a wild hater take.
  15. This is a bad take, we've seen a drop off for what seems like every 6th/7th year guy throughout the NCAAs, even PSU with Max Dean. College wrestling is too tough on the body for that long of a period of time.
  16. Of their best transfer, most of them did their best work at Iowa. Caliendo, Woods, Desanto, Eierman, Lugo (just off the top of my head) all had their best finishes in black and gold.
  17. Mineo calling for Iowa and then hoping he goes somewhere else kind of gives away the game. I'd guess this another minnow set up to try to make Iowa look bad when he actually goes somewhere else.
  18. You can definitely see the mountains, but they're way in the distance. I went to Greeley for D2 nationals one year, and I'd never been to Colorado, so I didn't realize the...geographical layout. For anyone who's never been, it is exactly as The Duke insinuates; Colorado is basically flat everywhere except for that pesky mountain range. It looks like: /\ / \ / \ / \ / \ / \ _______________________________/______________________\______________________________________________________
