  1. Has anyone actually been around Rulon lately? Does it really look like he'll be able to make 130Kg or will this just be a repeat of 2012?
  2. I'd think that if he does another collegiate season, it will probably be to help the Minnesota program more than a desire to get a third title. What does he have to prove at this level? I'd much rather see him focus on winning additional world and Olympic titles.
  3. Rogers was clearly undersized against Surber in the dual. Unless he does a lot of growing in the next several months, he's 184.
  4. A lot of cases of necrotizing fasciitis end up requiring amputation - I hope they've got things under control right now. Thoughts and prayers to him and his family.
  5. Cam was actually a few pounds light going into nationals. I doubt he'll be moving up.
  6. That I don't know. I just saw it in the Facebook link that I posted.
  7. My former neighbor went to Harvard as an undergrad and ASU for his PhD (archeology). ASU has a fairly good program. He ended up as a tenured professor at Buffalo.

  9. I actually thought it was going to go to Yanni, but Vito is well deserved, as he went into the match with all guns blazing. Unlike the Cassioppi match, Parris wrestled Kerkvliet much more conservatively, and didn't take any unnecessary chances.
  10. Just got home from Tulsa, and this thread is the first I see. Pretty ridiculous.
  11. Patrick Brucki was also a Big 10 Distinguished Scholar as an engineering graduate student. https://www.facebook.com/michiganwrestling/photos/a.571596109554337/5134296703284232/?type=3
  12. I'm not going to predict an actual team placement other than they certainly can place top 10. Given that this year they're not contending for the team title, I'd rather watch them be underdogs and try and exceed expectations. Ragusin, Lewan, Amine, Finesilver, and Parris are obviously going to carry things. If Medley wrestles well, and has an opportunity to outlast opponents in the consolation brackets he is a dark horse for the podium. Kind of the same for Mattin, depending on his health going into the tournament. Lamer seemed to be tiring at the end of the season, with some injury issues, although he will be much more relevant for the next three years.
  13. McHenry went as far as to win the wrestle-off at 125 at the beginning of the season, but injuries and Jack Medley gradually sidelined him. Overall, he's simply too small for 125. Hopefully he'll be able to shine as an international 53kg/115 pound wrestler.
  14. Sorry to hear - that really stinks as he's improved so much over the past few years.
  15. Not long after, it came out that there were accusations of NCAA violations in previous years: https://archives.nd.edu/observer/1992-05-01_v24_141.pdf (see page 40). There was a more in-depth article in the Chicago Tribune. What I later heard was that the NCAA was planning on conducting an investigation on the alleged violations. The ND administration, fearing that the NCAA might use the opportunity to scrutinize their entire athletic department, most notably the football program, responded by axing the wrestling program. The NCAA subsequently lost interest in the matter, and never came.
  16. Initially there seemed to be a generic Title 9/Proportionality explanation for Notre Dame dropping the program, although the athletes and coaches initially seemed blindsided by the move: https://archives.nd.edu/observer/1992-04-13_v24_130.pdf (see pages 20, 17, 18)
  17. Of note, Cal Bakersfield, while having great tradition, has never had good funding, and back during its Div. 2 days, was known for doing big things with very little: "Such budget-consciousness has helped Gonzales fit right in at Cal State Bakersfield, a small (enrollment: 2,359) commuter school with little money for athletics. [Joe]Seay, 42, a former national 149.5-pound champ from Wellington, Kans., started the school's wrestling program in 1972 with such limited funds that his team had to train in a science lab and his wife had to do all the wrestlers' laundry. Even now the school lacks a weight room and has a pitifully tiny wrestling room and so few wrestling scholarships that Seay, an exceptional coach, has to recruit athletes impoverished enough to qualify for general scholarships, which is what Gonzales had. "The school thinks they could throw us out onto the grass and we'd still win," says 158-pound senior Perry Shea, who's one of the four Division II champions on this year's team. "They're probably right." https://vault.si.com/vault/1982/05/03/gonzo-man-on-the-go
  18. Old programs brought back: 1. Washington 2. Oregon 3. LSU 4. Syracuse 5. Eastern Michigan 6. Notre Dame 7. Cal Berkeley 8. BYU 9. UCLA New program: 10. USC
  19. With duals wrapping up, I think most teams are focusing on getting everyone healthy for conferences and nationals. Too bad we missed what could have been some great matchups.
  20. At this point, he's not listed on the roster, so we'll just have to wait and see what happens.
  21. I don't know for sure, but this would probably be his last window, as it's his sixth year of collegiate wrestling. https://www.flowrestling.org/articles/10206852-all-american-jake-woodley-enters-transfer-portal
  22. Is this his full name? https://mcommunity.umich.edu/person/jwoodley
