  1. Pretty sure Steveson did compare himself to Lee when they split the Hodge and he leaned Spencer. No issues if you want to disagree but Steveson didn't have the same bonus rate as Spencer and certainly didn't end as many matches in the 1st period against All-Americans. It was almost surprising if someone even made it to the 3rd period against Lee, I never thought that when watching Steveson.
  2. He was the most dominant wrestler I have ever personally seen. He bonus pointed almost everyone he faced, including pinning and tech falling guys who have won NCAAs. He had an injury plagued career and still won 3 Titles. If you want to rank the 3 timers by where they finished when they came up short, then just copy and paste the list. The bottom line is we may never see anything like him again at the college level. To me, he was one the best to ever do it regardless of credentials.
  3. I hope Bernie decides to go HWT and finishes 4th next year to complete the Bizzaro Dake. 4th place, 4 years at 4 different weights. 4th @ 174 in 2021, 4th @ 184 in 2022, 4th and 197 in 2023...4th @ HWT in 2024!!
  4. We had this debate a little pre NCAAs and it didn't seem right that 1 guy could choose neutral and win on the RT point, but I have changed my thoughts on it and am now fine with the rideout rule. Its not like these matches are 8-8 after 9 minutes since guys who put up 8 points typically don't go another 2 without a score. It's the 1-1, 2-2 matches that go to rideouts and at that point I am fine if you lose a coin flip or strategy battle. You had 9 minutes.
  5. Hindsight is 20/20. Coming into the tournament, Ramos was pinned by Lee in the 1st period the previous meeting and Ramos didn't make the B1G semifinals 2 weeks earlier. There was no guarantee he would make the semis at NCAAs. Perhaps Lee should gameplan more, but there is no way Spencer can gameplan for everyone as much as they plan for him. Also Lee was up 7-4 and on top in the 3rd, he wasn't unprepared, Ramos kept wrestling and hit his move and deserves all the credit.
  6. First the Hodge gives out 2 trophys in the same year and now all 10 champs are finalist?!?! Hodge is getting softer. What's next, a non champ gets nominated? I mean Carr was 2-1 vs O'Toole, you could argue he a better year. ONLY KIDDING. (But I do think the 10 finalist is dumb).
  7. I assume they are sticking with Freestyle because that is how the women colleges do it now and Iowa is technically just joining the existing format. As far as converting from folk to free style that is how it is currently done so that really isn't new. But if men and women were competing in the same style, you could use the same refs/rules for back to back mens/womens duals; easier practice schedules for teams that have both, and even have them in the same tournaments (scuffle/midlands, etc.) and save on travel expenses. It could lead to more D1 womens teams.
  8. Question on Oly Redshirts.... It is my understand that USA Wrestling (a separate entity than the NCAA) determines the criteria for who is eligible to take an Oly Redshirt. My questions is under what authority can USAW impact the NCAA eligibility rules? And if there was some rule/law passed by the NCAA that deferred that authority to USAW, could USAW have determined that everyone who competed in 2020 season was deemed to have been an Oly Redshirt so that the seniors wouldn't have lost a year of eligibility? Still weird to me that some guys only got to compete in 3 NCAAs and others are getting 5. Heck Daton Fix can probably take another Oly year next year and still be eligible to compete at NCAAs in 2 years at the age of 27.
  9. I thought I heard Alirez was taking one.
  10. Finals are re airing on ESPNU at the top of the hour for those who missed or in attendance.
  11. Damn. On a serious note, we should all wait until the all the information comes out before passing judgement/commenting. But on a not so serious note: I am sure they can land in Iowa City, maybe HWC can expand their coaching roster. No background checks necessary.
  12. I'll re post and bold since I guess my post was too long to read the whole thing: Whatever he was charged with is only what the DA thought they could prove beyond a reasonable doubt, it is not necessarily all that happened. That doesn't mean everything in a screenshot is true either. The truth is probably in the middle and as noted by others that is not a great place.

  14. Attendance was 16,855 for the finals. 95,245 overall (15,874/session). BOK capacity for center stage (similar to a finals set up) is 19K; Capacity for Arena Football (comparable to an 8 mat set up) is 16.5K. With the head table and extra floor space, etc, I assume the capacity might of been less than I stated above (center state/arena football capacity numbers) but there was certainly more than the usual amount of unused tickets every session, including the finals. For comparison PPG in Pittsburgh list the Arena Football capacity at 16.3K and the total attendance in 2019 was 109,405
  15. I don't know that they weren't "sold" but they were definitely all not used. I would guess that ticket brokers gobbled up the public tickets early and then tried to flip them for $1000+ profit but didn't get many people to bite. I think most of the unused tickets where in the upper bowl, but I think @jdowntown has the problem correct. My understanding was that the NCAA didn't allocate the schools tickets until late Feb/early March so even people who normally get tickets didn't know until late if they had tickets or how many and then throw in that Ticketmaster stops selling all session tickets altogether (so they can get fees on all 6 sessions individually), there didn't seem to really be a reasonable secondary market until very late. We looked Wednesday on ticketmaster/stubhub and it appeared the secondary market had finally come back down to reality.
  16. Both? Aren't there 3? If AJ is committing I would assume his legal case is about to be cleared up and he has been vetted by his future university so he knows he is getting admitted.
  17. Thoughts on Tulsa 1) I thought they did about as good as they could and all of the locals were very nice 2) The layout of the city was tough (not a lot of big hotels downtown, most bars/restaurants were a few blocks away), which made the Uber/Lyft a small challenge. But there were plenty of Bird/Lime scooters to get around downtown. 3) Attendance was not as high as normal. The upper level had a lot of empty seats every session, including for the finals, which I don't recall ever. It may have to do with OU/OSU being down, but I think they need to do something about how Ticketmaster sells tickets. They have gotten away from selling all session tickets to generate more fees. I understand holding tickets for the individual schools but the allotments got released very late and with scalpers jacking up the tickets for individual session and with Tulsa not being the easiest to get to for some, it seems people stayed home. 4) The BOK was a little worn down and concessions where subpar. Beer was cold though. 5) Wish they would put the mat assignment scores on the jumbo-tron. The team scores don't change enough to need to be constantly up there. Overall, Tulsa was not my personal favorite but it was fine. If NCAA's goes back to Oklahoma, I preferred OKC to Tulsa but I'll likely being going regardless.
  18. If Brooks and CStar win 4, then yes they are up there with the best. Will need to see how they finish (dominate) before determining who is the best against the other PSU legends. I don't put much weight into a 5th title since no one else got the opportunity. It's a good footnote but I don't think that alone should factor into legacy.

    Yanni

Exactly. I wish in the U.S the World Championships got the coverage that NCAA wrestling does, but it doesn't. I am also guessing if Yianni wanted all the hype, he could get it.

    Yanni

Yianni also didn't step on the line against Sasso and wasn't at CKLV like years past. I also don't think he mentioned on ESPN that he tore his ACL his freshman year so it didn't get the attention Spencer did. I do like Yianni and don't hold that against him, but if we are talking about self promotion and attention, he would probably be getting more of the spotlight if was participating in the bigger events this year. I am guessing he is focused on his goals and doesn't care about the attention that Spencer is getting.
  21. Some of these brackets may look "easy" because they don't have the accomplishments, yet. For example, most people view 2008 149 lb bracket the toughest of all time, but entering the tournament the 4 seed (Jordan Burroughs) had never AA, yet. Perhaps we should always look at these things 5 years after the fact? It doesn't help how you look at guys like Hidlay and Parker Keck..(sp?)..n who could be good enough to win an NCAA title at different weight or in a different year but are (likely) prevented because they are up against one of the all timers in Brooks.
  22. Jason Renteria missed wight in Cleveland (I believe) and one of the alternates was there and able to make weight. I have no idea how much time the alternate had to get notified and make weight but it has been done as as late as the morning of before.
  23. Elam had 8 minutes to find a way to score a TD and didn't take enough risk or wasn't good enough to put points on the board, why should he be allowed to pick neutral and subject fans to more boring neutral wrestling?
  24. Agree they should make the tweak. You shouldn't be allowed to choose neutral in the TB after they just wrestled 2 min OT in neutral.
  25. 125- Lee 133- RBY 141- Woods 149- Yianni 157- Robb 165- Carr 174- Starocci 184- Brooks 197- Nino 285- Parris
