  1. Why blame anybody? Credit Cael for the success he is generating at PSU.
  2. Rankings are just rankings, people's opinions. Time will tell. I suspect Messenbrink will beat Carr. Askren had some interesting things to say about the KOT matchup. He said it could go either way. They are from the same club and probably have a history. It will all come out in the wash.
  3. Of course it's not a controversy. It's just hard to imagine why he was hired. He is painful to listen to. I think Flo underestimated its viewing audience and hired somebody that is better suited as a CNN anchor than an amateur wrestling analyst. He comes off as a sad version of Mr. Rogers looking like Clark Kent in horned-rim glasses.
  4. A lot of these former D-1 programs dried up after long time coaches left. Same thing happened to Slippery Rock, Clarion, Bloomsburg and California University. Lock Haven is still respectable but yes the mighty have fallen.
  5. Pyles is not a good look for Flo or the sport. The Clark Kent horned-rim Tennis coach thing doesn't work for wrestling. It's never quite clear what he is trying to say. His message often gets lost after having to get through the wishy washy moralistic and apologetic nonsense.
  6. There Ferrari's are not the answer. There is no guarantee they can make a solid contribution to the team this or next season. Too much luggage. They are their own worst enemies. From a cost/benefit analysis, there is too much of a price to be paid. And, for what?
  7. I cannot imagine Coaches Manning, Pendleton, Dresser or anyone with a shred of dignity agreeing to take the kid. It would be like agreeing to foster mentally challenged triplets. He is an untreated sociopath. Thank God if the Iowa AD said no. Not a huge Hawkeye fan but would hate to see anything happen to its reputation and tradition. Sigh of relief. My two cents.
  8. There has got to be divide on the Iowa team over this, especially at 149 and 197. I would think the majority of the athlete's parents are not fans of the Ferraris. With or without the Ferraris, Iowa is not going to beat Penn State in the forseeable future. The fan base can't be supportive of them and their antics. I have a hard time believing the AD and the coaching staff would risk alienating their fans, parents and athletes over a couple of athletes. It doesn't make any sense. You don't jeopardize the overall health and well-being of a legendary program for the unchecked impulses of two kids.
  9. Yes, a growing culture who lack manners, couth, respect and moral fortitude. I remember, back in 1981, when Gary Templeton of the St. Louis Cardinals grabbed his crotch on the field, directing it to the fans. Then manager, Whitey Herzog, ran onto the field, grabbed Templeton by the neck and removed him from the field and lineup. The next day he was traded to San Diego Padres for Ozzie Smith. The difference is people are more accepting of (and find entertainment value) in this type of behavior. These personalities may have existed long ago however, the nuns, stern WWII fathers and two parent households kept them in check. Ferrari's behavior should not be normalized or accepted.
  10. I don't like him. My unsolicited clinical opinion he is a sociopath who never learned a single consequence in his life. He is a scandalous, attention-seeking bully. He is bad for the NCAA, Iowa and college wrestling. Sadly, there is a growing culture of nimrods who support his conduct. People like this perish by their own sword.
  11. I think this just goes away if the AD and Tom Brands do the right thing for Iowa and the sport. I don't remember anybody in any official capacity officially remarking that A.J. was in the Hawks plans for '24. Many assumed he was. I bet Tom Brands quietly cuts ties with the boy, and never utters a word publicly about him or the family.
  12. THE IOWA GRINDERS: Penn is tough. They draw kids from Central PA, Eastern PA, Delbarton, Blair and elsewhere. As far as Iowa goes, if they weren't getting portal transfers and previous blue chip recruits from Western PA (Spenser Lee, Austin De Santo, Michael Kemerer, Max Murin and Kaleb Young), I'm not sure they are competing for a team trophy at NCAAs.
  13. MIght be the case but everybody is beat up, hurt or injured at this point. Excuses are for wuses.
  14. Interesting.... the refs need to nip this before it gets any worse.
  15. Rather uneventful... I think John Smith has lost his ability to inspire his athletes.
  16. That's cuz the Pitt Panthers are now having all the fun. Keith Gavin has 'em playing kick the can, diaper tag, release and freeze tag before and after practice.
  17. Stay on topic, we are talking about arrogant wrestlers not the nocturnal adventures taken by teammates.
  18. I never suggested that he was trying to 'hurt' people or even used 'racial' slurs. I wasn't comparing him to or against such behavior. I was addressing his arrogance, which is the question at hand. Read the title of the thread. I never said arrogance was bad, if in small doses. He clearly pushed Ayala's chest after pinning him, and had some choice words with his coaches after the match. This bull crap wouldn't happen at Penn State, under Cael. That kind of behavior would have been kept in check by the likes of RBY, Nick Lee, Carter Starocci and Brooks and Beard. Just my two cents.
  19. I think you meant 'pinning". There I fixed it for you. Lee is a great wrestler, one of the very best that the rich state of PA has produced, but needs to be more measured when speaking publicly about his injuries and future conquests. I have seen him wrestle since he was a little fella and he at times became unhinged and displayed borderline unsportsmanlike conduct. I would hate for him to be remembered with the likes of DeSanto, Terry Brands and Thomas Gilman.
  20. Spenser Lee-Tired of his mouth and his wining. Hope Fix drops down and beats him. Real Woods-I was stunned after Woods narrowly beat Casey Swiderski for acting so brashly. He won by two points and acted like he won the Olympic Gold Medal. During Media Day he said "he came to Iowa to put on a show for the fans." Really? What is he going to show Hawkeye Nation that they haven't already seen? Please.
  21. Charging so much Holding a monopoly on watching high school state tournaments. I remember watching the PIAA State Wrestling Tournament on WQED Channel 13 (Public Television) in Pittsburgh since the late 1960s. Up until what 3-4 years ago, there is no local access to watch the state tournament unless you want to buy a subscription to Flo. We can watch all other high school sports' season finales: soccer, cross country, football, basketball on television etc. etc. but not wrestling. One Flow employee said this was good for the sport. Horse Poop!!
