Yes Michael Beard. Why not dark horses? Dark horses from the past or this year? -

What constitutes stalling on top?
KLCarnegieTech_1969 replied to PSULou64's topic in College Wrestling
In most cases a claw ride, or a figure four and a power half are used to "break, incapacitate, or wear down the bottom man. This, in my opinion is not stalling. It's working to maintain an advantage over your opponent. Parallel hips, not working to improve is stalling. -

Refs did not assert themselves in the 70s and 80s like they do now. They do more now to justify their existence. It isn't necessary to constantly be told where to wrestle on the mat, to keep it legal, to get out of the fingers and to work to improve. Refs were there to make sure the wrestlers were safe and followed basic rules of engagement. Now that they are mik'ed up they probably play to the listening audience. -

In the top position-stalling is when the top man is riding parallel to the hips and not trying to improve his position. If the top man is out to the side, perpendicular and working to break down or turn the bottom man, stalling should not be called. It used to be the top man could just prevent the bottom man from scoring. That is not the case any more. The powers that be are trying to make the sport more exciting for the attention span-less viewers that cannot enjoy a 2-1 or 3-2 struggle. Thus the burden seems to be more on the top man. Refs are out of control trying to insert themselves in matches this year, ensuring the pace is the match is always up tempo. If I want to stall or work the edge then I will. Has anybody noticed how much more refs are inserting themselves in matches, instructing the participants to improve their position, work to the center, get out of the fingers, keep it legal. etc. etc. It's a hodgepodge of nothingness that sounds like a broken record. I would love for a wrestler to tell a ref: Have you ever thought that it might not be that easy? Or just to shut the hell up. -
Who is the best wrestler from your state?

You helped me recall Shaon Fry from Oak Grove, Nick and Tony Purler and of course TJ Hill. I think all went on to receive All-American honors. Tony won it at 126 and went on to win a World Silver Medal. -

Who is going to catch them? PSU hasn't had a close match in the toughest conference. Oklahoma State, Nebraska, Missouri and NC State are all real good but aren't going to catch them. I follow D2. My son was a D2 All-American at Pitt Johnstown. What a great experience. The D3 Finals are wild. A lot of crowd involvement. Kind of like a British soccer match. I think this is a great idea. -
It looked like it was a fall but there was no way of knowing if the left shoulder was down because the view was blocked (on tv). The cradle was tight. Ref was not in position. I will tell you the announcers were such Navy homers. You can't call a pin if you are not in position or a complete view of the shoulder blades was blocked.

Who is most likely to get "Carvered" this Friday?
KLCarnegieTech_1969 replied to Jimmy Cinnabon's topic in College Wrestling
Bartlett will definitely get "Carvered." He hasn't been generating a lot of offense against good wrestlers. Woods, on the other hand (except for the Lemley match) runs up the scores both on his feet and on top with that tilt. -
The idea that the Brands would be on 'the hot seat' is interesting. What would be the alternative? Iowa would have to bring on board someone who has multiple NCAA titles and World and Olympic titles in order to compete with Cael. Who comes to mind? It would have to be somebody like Burroughs, Dake, Taylor, Scneider or Steiber. You need a magnetic personality with a pedigree. All great coaches have a shelf life.

I think they do a fine job. I don't mind Sparks. He is kind of fun. Just like Kenny Chertow. Even Christina Pyles isn't half bad as an announcer. Just as long as he doesn't give his opinion on anything. They know the sport and make it fun. On the other hand, the Big 10 Plus announcers are as lame as they come. I realize they are communication students fulfilling assignments but calling matches games, wrestlers players, and making up moves named after body parts is tough to take. It's all good.
