Waves of nostalgia…
my first trash 80 was connected to a 13” B/W the same manner… 4K internal memory… recording programs on audio tape…
it was quite a step up from hoop and stick…
Nothing I have seen since changes those opinions…
nithing lee himself has done since changes those opinions…
I welcome being 100% wrong…
But…
keep on keeping on…
we have all had bad days…
It is a shame you are missing the point based totally on your love of a particular color singlet…
I know you are better than this but totally understand…
I’ve told this story before on the googlewebs…
I listened to a well known “coach” for an entire season give his inspirational speech pre practice… never saw him show a lick of technique… but he was the best with a 3 minute pre practice speech…
the one thing that really sticks in my mind was him talking about one international tourney he was at and a Soviet block wrestler had just lost… this dude was slamming his head repeatedly on the concrete because that loss meant his family no longer was taken care of… they would all be hungry…
this well known “coach” then challenged every kid in that room to practice like their family eating depended on it…
this well known “coach” also on the first day recognized the 2 kids who paid their own fees and did not have a parent that could…
these are the little things that stick with me…
I give that well known “coach” a hug every time I see him because he made an impact on me and my kids by proxy…
I was chatting with a friend last week…
at some point we both agreed there is a sadistic pleasure in watching an athlete break…
for a variety or reasons…
lee feels like he is always looking for that moment…
most athletes have to deal with that early in their “careers” and then find ways to move past…
im just not sure lee has ever had to do that in the context of a match or season or whatever…
the one time he absolutely got wrecked he just moved to a different weight and ended up with a world title…
he never really had to sit at home and watch his bracket without him…
Always had an injury excuse…
whatever…
i’m just not sure he is going to learn the lessons everyone else had to learn much much earlier in their careers before it is physically too late for him…
and that is a legitimate shame…
but…
a valuable lesson for anyone trying to help an athlete reach their absolute highest potential…
Well…
what I wrote was rhetorical in nature as there is only one acceptable answer…
earth?
universe?
that thinking is as relevant as horse hair mats nowadays…
the multiverse is what the kids are into today…
personally, I prescribe to simulation theory…
that is an impressive crawdaddy painted in the best possible light...
i applaud you...
i have already said multiple times i will not be unhappy to be proven wrong in regards to lee...
it just has not happened yet...
ok...
we can all revisit this when lee makes a senior team...
when?
sorry...
i mean "if"
"if" he never does and he still feels good about his decisions then he will have inequivalently done better than most...
i was more trying to be clever, but, yet again...
you are not wrong...
regardless...
my pure assumption is whatever karelin had been on previous to that tourney he still was...
control what you can and let the rest kick rocks...
BTW...
the younger one is home for a couple of days to get some antibiotics for some funk before he heads back north to work with a senior world team member before zagreb...
i took him to go get snacks a few minutes ago and i was telling him how little i have got done today because i am squabbling on the googlewebs about spencer lee...
he asked me if i heard what brands said...
we both had a deep belly laugh about it all...
good times...
