  1. Grant knew how to apply superior strength to maintain the initiative against defense, stalls and counters. That was his genius. No other cracked the code against Lee. If Lee had not entered the portal he may have developed an effective offensive game, but he made his choice and was effectively countered on his two offensive thrusts.
  2. I rank Lee below General Grant even though Lee was funky in scrambles and a real bugger to take down.
  3. Max absolutely made the best decision for himself. The portal tipped the scale from school to athlete. Kudo's to him for not succumbing to pressure and sacrificing a year to COVID hysteria. Link to Max Dean's Letter
  4. Isn't it great that we live in a country where Brooks was free to say what he did, network wasn't afraid to broadcast what he said, and we can therefore exchange opinions regarding what he said. Free speech and freedom of the press in action. I love it when a plan comes together
  5. Vito - the Great Pastry Hope Levi "Rass'lin Genes" Haines Beau "One Shot" Bartlett Ballroom Brands Glass Knee Lee
  6. I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it. - Evelyn Beatrice Hall
  7. It does sound like Cornell could make some noise with organic (i.e., non-transfer) talent alone. From what I understand Cornell has some handicaps regarding red shirting, transfers and academic entrance standards that make it hard.
  8. Pretty much the usual suspects - from the B10. Iowa, PSU will be in the hunt almost every year. Ohio State is the sleeping giant. Michigan is a very popular destination as a graduate portal destination and can patch together one year runs quickly, as can some of the high end Big10 academic schools (Wiscy and NW). Minn and Neb could strike if they can attach transfers to add to organic talent. If Pitt starts to care about wrestling I could see them sneak in as an ACC disrupter - but they will need a deep pocket donation. I'd really like to see some ACC team emerge but until mid-atlantic states churn out more HS stars probably not. OKSt is damaged right now but will emerge again after it finds the right coach. Iowa State is probably doomed to be a little brother. Cornell is a dark horse but I have to believe that the Ivy's will remain also-rans. The PAC12 situation is unsettled so probably nothing from here - Arizona State maybe. There is a lot of talent on the left coast afterall. But then again I never thought PSU would keep it together as long as they already have. The University is currently cutting staff in order to address a $145 million operating deficit so they are not exactly awash in money for wrestling facilities. I don't think this will impact wrestling but who knows.
  9. Murin is underrated and exploited SVN difficulties with penetrating a really good head, hands defense and handling tough mat wrestling. I think you're right and SVN would suffer again if Murin were in his draw.
  10. Iowa and TnT will be just fine. What PSU has done over the decade is remarkable. But in this age of portal, NIL, etc it is the wild west. I could see four or five teams winning championships over the next decade.
  11. The boos were loud, but I hope Lee understands and remembers that most at states were cheering or at least not booing. I predict a huge ovation when he makes an appearance.
  12. opps - my reading comprehension needs work. And my glasses are perfectly ok.
  13. I believe Dake is now too young to wrestle in college.
  14. I was confused by some of the earlier posts which said Van Ness had no offense, only straight on attacks, but held my tongue. He did have issues with certain wrestlers but he never, never backs down. I don't think he had a stalling call all season. He is the kind of wrestler with a high ceiling.
  15. Barlett has offensive explosion, where did that come from? Getting my hopes up for next year! Van Ness wins. Both going for 3rd! Having a few guys wrestling on the backside is kind of a different experience. PSU is sometimes absent from these sessions. Mix blessing kind of thing,
  16. If ever there was a good fit it was Lee and Iowa and TnT. https://www.hawkcentral.com/story/sports/college/iowa/wrestling/2023/03/15/how-iowa-wrestling-recruited-spencer-lee-away-from-penn-state-terry-brands/69997324007/
  17. I get that those near to Lee may try to Oscar slap dark humor away, but for most it's in bounds. People will not laugh at his mother's pain, but they sure as hell will laugh at her crumpling up her glasses.
  18. I bet Gable is up late tonight alone with his thoughts.
  19. The Lee family travels with tons of surgical tape. Mrs Lee's glasses will be fine for tomorrows match. The Iowa team doctor diagnosed it as a hyper-extended and did not recommend any corrective procedures.
  20. Barlett is a hard out but unless he gene splices with Van Ness he may never be more. And Van Ness could use some of Barlett's defensive positioning so gene splicing may be the answer.
  21. Nothing like watching Beau's offense to settle a PSU fan back in reality.
