  1. I'm not sure. Last time he was seen on a freestyle mat, he screamed preventing a tech by leg lace and then proceeded to talk trash to Dieringer on his way off the mat.
  2. DC asked him what he would do if he wrestled a hobbled Carter. He answered the question he was asked.
  3. Burroughs was 23 years and 2 months when he won his first world title in 2011. Carter will be 23 years and 2 months next week. Carter Starocci will be older than JB was at the time of his first title if he ever wins one. Sorry.
  4. This is so untrue. Burroughs was a World Champ when he was Carter's age. Carter has not even sniffed a World Team.
  5. Backups get NIL? If so, PSU has wayyyy more money than even the haters have speculated. Thought they were supposed to be short term deals?
  6. Now that you mention BYU, Chael Sonnen transferred from BYU and never lost another match or even another period.
  7. Is it safe to say they aren't doing a great job managing their athletes' health? SVN, Howard, etc.? Heck, Starocci may have won it, but seems to be headed to maybe his third surgery in a year.
  8. Was this before or after the 4-4 criteria squeaker DT won over JB on that Flo card?
  9. Is he drinking alcohol? My understanding was that Nickal didn't touch alcohol, not to mention he has a fight in less than a week. Seems a weird time to start.
  10. Wait... another thread lists Illinois as one of the many teams that is surpassing Iowa!
  11. Wonder how he would have felt if they scored a bunch of bonus on the backside?
  12. I was told by somebody who knows what he is talking about that a big part of any problem is that Iowa has "two bad cops" who are clearly running the show. One "bad cop" might work, but two is apparently not optimal. I still think they are doing pretty well as the second best program, just passing along what I had heard.
  13. I've said before, probably on this very thread, that I am a fan of the stepout rule in freestyle, but probably not folkstyle. Folkstyle top/bottom is inherently different than freestyle par terre. This would create odd situations and ways to game the system that I don't think a lot of people have considered. It could potentially make things more confusing for refs and for fans. (two groups we don't want to get any more confused, and I am a member of both groups) I would love to see edge wrestling penalized and basically eliminated. I'm not sure if a stepout point is the best solution.
  14. Not sure why this came up, it is not a new story whatsoever. It worked out for RBY and Nickal, but totally inappropriate to do to a kid socially and academically. Both RBY and Nickal had great careers and are continuing to do so. I'm an educator, I have a bit of knowledge on this stuff. I would imagine that most kids who were to go through a similar process would be negatively impacted. "Summer learning loss" is a big thing, especially in disadvantaged communities. This was turning summer learning loss into an entire, year ... actually probably 14 months. They also probably learned a couple bad lessons about playing by societal rules and being responsible. Sometimes people commit crimes and there is no obvious damage to anyone. I'm glad it worked out for these two, or seems to have. I wouldn't suggest other go through a similar process. I am more open to repeating a year and actually receiving socialization and education.
  15. Glazier had a bad tournament, but way better season than expected. Other lesser names such as Hill and Siebricht, though not world beaters, have shown themselves to be significantly improved. None had great NCAA tournaments, though... but either did Davis, Nagao, Hamiti, and many others.
  16. 170 were his best results. (But was cutting down from 215+) Meanwhile John Smith barely cut weight and looks like he could make 136.5 tomorrow.
  17. I thought Croatia? Regardless, in the Balkans.
