  1. It's more than those four parameters. There are six parameters AND you must actually wrestle two bouts at the qualifying tourney. Quoted jdalu75 from the Lehigh forum. He does a nice job of summarizing the NCAA Pre-Championships Manual: Wrestlers failing to win the pre-allocated spots at the conference tournaments have a shot at the at-large berths. There are at least four for each weight class and there have been as many as seven. This is messy. After the conference tournaments the NCAA updates winning percentages and the CP and RPI rankings. Wrestlers need to meet two or more of the following in order just to be considered for an at-large: ● .700 Win % ● Top 33 RPI ● Top 33 CR ● .700 winning percentage against all competition ● One win against a wrestler receiving an earned position (pre-allocated) ● Qualifying event placement one below number of pre-allocated spots New this year: they also have to wrestle at least two bouts in the conference tournament. All the wrestlers in a weight class who pass that test are then ranked against each other, using these criteria: ● Head-to-head competition — 25% ● Quality wins — 20% ● Qualifying event placement — 15% ● Results against common opponents — 10% ● RPI — 10% ● Coaches rankings — 10% ● Win percentage — 10%
  2. among others. very true - and very sad. Reese's former HS coach used to take me to Fall tourneys before he moved from D4 PA to New York.
  3. He's not bad... for a Jersey guy! He attended a HS with a pretty good reputation. Imagine how much smarter he'd be if he grew up on the other side of the river.
  4. Apple's... that's nothing. Not a Hodge candidate... but it was a shame this guy's career was cut short. https://www.flowrestling.org/video/5143566-strongest-high-school-wrestler Opponents definitely wanted to stay away from his 3/4 Nelson.
  5. I recall the discussion on the old forum as well. Henning didn't help himself by going from an NCAA finalist to a #5 seed at B1G. Whether Henning was the driver or not, it was generally agreed that we had to do away with the five year rolling average for R12 performance. The era of shady deals was not good. I know the Lehigh forum used to complain about the "Ivy Mob" voting as a block for WCs at the EIWA tourney.
  6. Henning entered the B1G tourney as the #5 seed and went 2-and-BBQ, losing on the backside to an unseeded guy from Purdue. Not sure how the coaches could have justified a Wild Card in the back-room discussion. http://www.wrestlingstats.com/big10/pdf/Big%2010-2008.pdf Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  7. Since we included Kolat’s international rule changes, we need to include Gene Mills’ desire to score 100 pts in a bout as the driver for the Tech Fall… https://www.flowrestling.org/video/6520717-tech-falls-were-invented-because-of-gene-mills Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  8. 26-2 is his career Big 12 record. Nine career losses. https://goairforcefalcons.com/documents/2024/2/15/2023-24_AF_WR_Stats.pdf?path=wrestling He lacks cred in the following categories: Past Credentials: Not many Hodge winners that are 1x champs. His NCAA history is R12, R16, 3rd, TBD. His resume is nowhere near that of the other major candidates. Quality of Competition: His RPI is #13 among 285s. Given his undefeated record, that doesn't speak much for his competition. For a little perspective, he's #11 on Flo's P4P rankings.
  9. While I'll own my mistakes, I'm not responsible to correct other people's errors.
  10. While I may have misspelled Mesenbrink, I had Crookham's name correct. Crookham missed duals, Mesenbrink has not. Mesenbrink would be your LMS winner under the original rules.
  11. The original LMS contest did not allow picks to miss a dual. Crookham would have been eliminated a while ago. I don't believe Messenbrink has missed any duals.
  12. Note the bout time on the restart...
  13. Fair enough. But you can't deny that Davis went defensive and shut it down for the remainder of the bout. Also... they didn't add back the 14 seconds to the bout time. If RT was actually 1:00, then they should have also reset the bout clock from 1:00 to 1:14. When they restarted after the challenge, the bout clock was still at 1:00.
  14. Davis is probably (at best) the 5th best 125 in the B1G. He has losses on his record against Smith (NEB) and Ayala (Iowa). In addition to those losses, it was declared afterward that he should have lost to Kilkeary (tOSU). Against DeAugustino (Michigan), Davis escaped with 1:14 to go in the 3rd to make it 1-1 (with 0:59 RT). PSU challenged the timing of the ESC point to get RT back to exactly 1:00. He then tied up and stalled for the remaining 1:14 of 3rd period. DeAugustino missed a desperation TD to lose 5-1. I'd easily take DeAugustino in a rematch. I'd also take Barnett (WI) and McKee (MN) over Davis.
  15. That explains why you've dropped Stanich so much for the loss to Jax Forrest.
  16. Not yet. If he goes against ASU next week, he's officially out of RS.
  17. Are you only considering D1 bouts? Wondering if you are including Stanich’s 11-4 win over returning D3 champ Joziah Fry, which is Fry’s only loss in his past 62 bouts? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  18. 57 - Lee 65 - Retherford 74 - Dake 86 - Taylor 97 - Snyder 125 - Parris
  19. Five champs in 1942. Logan, Arndt, Jennings, Jennings, Maxwell Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Tulsa Central also had instances where HS teammates met in the NCAA final. See my cited examples earlier in the thread. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. I've attended seventeen tourneys: 1999, 2003-2008, and 2010-2019. Missed 2009 due to my daughter being born. Haven't been able to attend post-COVID due to my son's state gymnastics meet being that weekend. @VakAttack @MizzouFan01 Regarding the annual pick'em contest... I can be setup for a draft the day after brackets are released. I'm still thinking that a Zoom call will help speed up the draft process.
  22. perhaps... but a case could be made for him giving up a neutral fall.
  23. Rutgers threw a brick, but the ref indicated there was no video available for the dual.
