  1. Decent discussion about this on FRL today. Basically they found old salaries for Espo and Scott and several years back Espo was making a higher salary than Scott, so he could have actually gotten a pay increase despite the increase in title (and going to a lower COL area). Consensus was he’s not guaranteed the job when Smith leaves, but it gives him a leg up. They didn’t really get too much into what they thought the timeline for Smith leaving was, but did point out that he’s “only” 58, so isn’t really THAT old.
  2. The school didn’t have to officially announce it right away but I don’t see why they needed to demand retractions from reporters about it
  3. One thing this thread taught me is Cornell seems like the clear #2. They’ve got a good shot at taking 4 matches and a slim shot at 5.
  4. I’m not seeing the “big addition for the Sun Devils” post on fb, may have been deleted
  5. If he already has his degree, he can not wrestle at Cornell. I’m guessing he will graduate this spring. It’s not really using the “free year” since he didn’t get to use it in the first place, but yes, as @BigRedFan noted (with comments on some of the other guys too), he likely stayed in school in 2020-2021 despite not being allowed to compete.
  6. Yes I see Minnow also said “he’s already heading somewhere else” when someone asked about Iowa too, so he can’t do the “just asking questions” bit. But seems odd to enter the portal now if he’s wrestling at Cornell this year and already knows where he’s going next year. Only reason to do that would be to entertain other offers IMO.
  7. Did Cardenas actually “commit” to ASU somewhere?
  8. Yeah Cornella is the big upset there, the rest are pretty realistic and some may even pick Ramirez over Mesenbrink but I certainly wouldn’t. My other option instead of UNI is Northern Colorado to get the win at 141, then throw out Baylor Fernandes at 165 and hope he wins by injury default.
  9. Cornell and Northern Iowa can come close 125 Ungar dec Howard 3-0 133 Vito maj Nagao 7-0 141 Cornella dec Bartlett 10-0 (upset) 149 Shapiro dec Van Ness 13-0 157 Haines maj Handlovic 13-4 165 Mesenbrink dec Ramirez 13-7 174 Starocci dec Foca 13-10 184 Keckeisen dec Truax 16-10 197 Brooks dec Cardenas 16-13 285 Kerk dec Fernandes 16-16 edit: changed my pick, lol
  10. “John Smith announced today” So basically, he likely was the one making the demands that everyone keep their mouth shut
  11. Pretty sure that is the case for X/twitter at least, but that screenshot looks like Instagram which I don’t have
  12. Doesn’t that show the most recent follows first though? So basically he just did it, which does seem a little questionable, and also funny that he did it before Scott has even been announced.
  13. Apparently Willie reporting Kennedy, Brands, Assad, Cass “are the names that keep coming up.” Chatter on HR without much pushback is that 4 returning starters not named Woods will likely lose the season, and one more 10%. Some thinking Kennedy may be the 10%, and Siebrecht the other not named above that could lose the season. Info could be coming soon, and penalties could be reduced ALLEGEDLY Of course someone there thinks a team without 4 of those guys is still top 2-5, lol.
  14. The only legitimate reason I can see for not announcing Scott yet is if he’s actually becoming the HC this season and Smith is retiring now. Otherwise the “secrecy” makes no sense.
  15. This is pretty ridiculous that OSU still hasn’t announced anything about Scott

This guy: https://goheels.com/news/2016/6/6/211001390.aspx Pretty sure he was spotted during one of Koll’s interviews shortly after taking the Stanford job.

Isn’t Koll buddies with that Tool company CEO who I believe also went to UNC? They could have NIL covered if so

I think Ramos makes more sense than Snyder and Jaggers who haven't been HC's before that I'm aware of. I guess you're right that Koll is a step above Kolat but I'd still consider him to be a "big name" and yes I would probably include Pendleton and Hahn in that group. I don't see Pendleton leaving the other OSU for UNC, Hahn maybe.

I think someone already shared this but this is one reason: It clearly was enough for OSU to seemingly want Scott to take over for John Smith. If I’m Ramos, I can’t fault them if they hire Koll or Kolat. But outside of a big name like that Ramos probably makes the most sense. Honestly I think Ramos makes more sense for UNC than Scott makes for OSU (as they do have more ability to hire a big name), but maybe that’s a different discussion.

7 years of college coaching experience including 4 as the associate HC all at the same school seems like a stretch to call him a "prospect." He of course also has the credentials as a wrestler that everyone seems to want in coaching for some reason too.

Aren't there usually requirements that jobs need to be posted for a certain amount of time or something anyway? (Which may also be why there appears to be such concern about calling Scott the HC in waiting at OSU)
  22. Yeah. I think the only possibility was Musser chose neutral in the second and there was no scoring. I was a bit confused because the announcers didn’t even mention riding time until several seconds after it was secured, at first I was questioning if there was no RT or something back then.
